So You want to have a Destination Wedding?

A destination wedding is an incredibly exciting affair. What better place to exchange your vows than behind a beautiful, exotic, seaside backdrop?

Destination weddings give couples the ability to have a one of a kind experience. It’s a great way to jump start your honeymoon early (the beach is RIGHT there)! But there are a lot more considerations to think about when planning your wedding elsewhere.

Of course, you will have to deal with the usual planning and details that most weddings entail. However, there are different factors to think about during the planning process when the element of a different location is added.

There are many benefits when hosting a destination wedding. It might be a thriftier option, as the wedding doubles as a ceremony AND a honeymoon.

It might be potentially less of a headache with regards to deciding the nitty-gritty details of the big day. Many resorts offer wedding packages, providing things like complementary services and an on-site wedding coordinator assisting with major wedding elements.

These weddings are also relatively intimate, given that two hundred guests might not necessarily be able to make the trek. While it might save you from inviting overwhelming ‘Auntie Sue,’ and other guests you’d feel obligated in inviting, it’s also good to keep in mind that some of your nearest and dearest might not be able to take the jaunt as well.

Destination weddings are not all rainbows and butterflies. You’ll have to know your marriage laws relatively well if you’re getting married in a completely foreign country. There are a lot of do’s and don’ts with regards to marriage laws in a different country. You’ll also have to plan all the details accordingly, without necessarily seeing everything firsthand.

Sure, the countdown until the big day is incredibly stressful. There will be a plethora of things to still do, with very little time left. The one thing to keep in mind, (especially for sandy beach destinations) is that things run on ‘island time.’

Things might come down to the wire, but put faith in both your coordinator and the staff. Sure, you have a wedding to organize, but you are in fact also on vacation. Take it easy, and embrace the laid back ways of the island!

Before jumping head-first in planning your dream getaway wedding, it is good to weigh out the pros and cons of it. It is a significant life event for anyone. The most important thing though is that this day is shared by those who you love.
