Destination Wedding Series Pt. 1: Choosing a Destination

It’s wedding planning season! While it’s a fun time filled with Pinterest photos, inspiration boards, and all things frou-frou, it does have a tendency to get a bit hectic too. We’ve dedicated this post to the bride and groom-to-be!

A few months ago, we posted this article discussing some of the things you ought to think about before deciding on a destination wedding. If you’re still set on having your event elsewhere around the globe (wahoo!), then the first step is to choose your destination.

Our wedding specialist, Shez gives her insight on how to narrow down your destination choices:

One way to narrow down your choice includes dipping into your memory bank. Think of the destinations you’ve had a good experience with. Would you want to revisit that destination? Or would you rather go somewhere new?

Another question to consider includes the budget- not only for the event, but for your guests too. While there are some resorts that offer modest ceremonies free-of-charge, there are also others that offer more amenities for a set price.

The type of activities that you plan to partake in might also narrow down your choices. For instance, those looking to spend more time on the beach might want to travel to a destination where waves are calmer and safer by the shore.

The atmosphere between family-friendly resorts versus adults-only venues, vary. Because of this, choosing the right ambiance might also play a factor on your destination.

Here are some destinations/hotel recommendations for three popular wedding ‘themes’ that couples often wish to achieve:

Elegant – Opt for more adults-only resorts. All-inclusives such as the Zoetry, Dreams, and Breathless Resorts are perfect for those wanting an elegant and luxurious wedding.

Romantic – Choose destinations that are known to offer some areas of seclusion and privacy. St Lucia’s Ti Kaye Resort and Spa offers a great and private atmosphere for those wanting an intimate ceremony.

Adventurous – Places that promise plenty of adventure and activities include Costa Rica. For those wanting to veer from the beach-y destinations, Europe offers vast options and unique landscapes.
