Fans of the ever so popular “Friends” sitcom can finally spend their days sipping on the same kind of coffee and sit on the same exact famous neon chair that graced the café during the show’s 10 year run.
The trendy and famous ‘Central Perk Café’ opened its doors earlier this week in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the show’s premier. Located on Lafayette Street in the Soho district, this pop-up coffee shop is created identically to the Central Perk seen in the show.
From the eclectic décor, elaborate espresso machine, to the famous, velvet neon orange couch, the pop-up shop comes pretty darn close to the real deal!
Aside from the décor, the Central Perk café also includes notable on-set memorabilia, which includes cast costumes, Monica’s and Chandler’s wedding vows, and a plethora of other nostalgia-inducing relics.
The pop-up café also hosts a series of entertainment, one of them being an open-mic night that pays homage to Phoebe’s well-known song, “Smelly Cat.” While the show’s main characters have yet to make an appearance, actor James Michael Tyler (aka. Gunther, the Central Perk barista), is scheduled to pop in sometime this month.
Despite its popularity, this famous coffee shop remains only a temporary fixture in the district of Soho. The pop-up shop will close its doors on October 18th, so make sure to check it out if you’re in the area!
