Destination Wedding 101: Beach Flowers

We've got some tips on what flowers to choose from for your wedding!

We've got some tips on what flowers to choose from for your wedding!

So you’ve chosen a destination, the resort venue is booked, menu finalized, and your dress or tux are all ready to go.

What’s the next step?

Florals are not do-or-die pieces. However, they add quite a nice touch to your big day. Unlike ordering floral pieces for a traditional wedding, picking pieces for your destination wedding can be a bit different.

If you fancy tropical flowers, then you’re in for a treat! Many beach destinations flourish in these stunning and what we would call “rare” flowers. Here are some things to think about when choosing your pieces.

Roses and lilies are great choices when you're choosing your floral variety.

Think of the Climate – Regardless of whatever destination you are in, they all share the same type of weather. Heat and humidity is shared by a lot of these destinations. With that, comes the challenge of picking floral pieces that can withstand the elements. Choose pieces that will stay fresh throughout the day like flowers with thicker petals.

Less is More – The beauty of getting married at a beach means that you get the privilege of saying your “I do’s” on a stunning and breathtaking destination. Sometimes it is good to use floral décor sparingly and to have the backdrop of the destination complement your wedding. Doing this creates a unique focus for photographs.

Be Flexible with your Vision – The beauty and challenge of having your wedding at a sun-destination is the availability of flowers during the season. A majority of all-inclusive resorts have roses available. However, peonies or ranunculus might not be as easy to get a hold of. Some of these flowers are hard to come by with beach destinations. If you are lucky enough to find them, they might cost a lot more than other varieties. Rather than sticking to a specific floral variety, it’s good to see what color themes could complement your wedding.

If you are looking for a low-risk, no-fail pieces that will last the entire day, look for the following floral varieties to incorporate in your wedding: gerbera daisies, calla lilies, orchids, plumerias, birds of paradise, dahlias, and lilies.
