How long have you been working in the travel industry?

Nearly four years and LOVE IT!

Where have you traveled?

Every country in South and Central America, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Mexico, Las Vegas, Disneyland and Disneyworld, Italy, France, Spain, Amsterdam, Croatia, Borneo, Australia and Bali.

Out of all the destinations you have been to, which is your favorite and why?

That is such a tough question!  Saint Lucia is incredibly romantic and has some amazing hotels - so that would be at the top of my list.  Jamaica has some great adults-only properties that I would love to return to someday.  Galapagos Islands & Patagonia for its amazing wildlife encounters.

What is your most memorable experience while traveling?

Having the opportunity to meet with wedding coordinators at the resorts and sharing a nice meal with the hotel managers.

What got you interested in transitioning from a travel agent to a destination wedding specialist?

As a true ‘romantic-at-heart’ transitioning into a Romance Travel specialist was very natural for me.  I have always preferred to stay at hotels that cater more towards adults and I spend every chance I get exploring the most romantic properties around the world.

I always enjoyed working with brides-to-be, helping them plan their special day and to create a once-in-lifetime honeymoon experience for them. Becoming a specialist was an easy decision.

Give us a bit of a sneak peek on what happens throughout the day in the life of a Wedding Specialist:

I start off each day doing your usual housekeeping tasks, like reviewing my voicemails and checking for new wedding or honeymoon enquiries.

I try to get back to my clients within a couple of hours, if possible.

Every day is different but I spend the majority of my day chatting to my brides about their wedding ideas and helping them with all of the nitty gritty details of their trips.

In between, I am contacting suppliers to negotiate group rates, creating beautiful wedding proposals and guest booking sheets, which are customized based on my client’s needs.

Let’s just say, after all this I rarely ever leave the office on time lol.

What is the most rewarding part of being a wedding specialist?

It’s super rewarding when I receive positive reviews from my wedding groups after the trip. I sometimes even receive beautiful wedding photos from the couples - which I absolutely love!

Also referrals from happy and satisfied clients are always greatly appreciated. It’s so rewarding that I played a part in one of the most important days of their lives.

What is the most challenging?

Sometimes things can go wrong, such as flight delays.  As much as they aren’t much fun to deal with at the time, I am always glad to help out where I can to alleviate any stress from my clients.

Of all destinations you’ve been to, what is your favorite for a destination wedding and why?

This is also difficult to answer as it really depends on a client’s budget, needs and desires.  The Riviera Maya tends to offer one of the best values as there are so many great all-inclusive resorts to choose from, so it still remains one of the most popular destinations. I also like Negril for its beautiful sunsets and couples-only resorts.

What is your go-to destination wedding tip that you’d like to share to brides?

If possible, always try to contact a Destination Wedding Specialist at least a year in advance, especially if you have inflexible travel dates, or plan on traveling during the peak wedding months – April and May.  It is never too early to start planning, and there are generally great Early Booking rates available for those who book early.

While most all-inclusive packages give guests a 7-day option, know that this isn’t the end all-be all for everyone. We can also look into 5-day or shorter stay options for guests who want to keep costs down but still want to attend the wedding!
