Riu Sri Lanka

The newly opened Riu Sri Lanka is located in the southeastern town of Ahungalla. Ahungalla is a bit of a trek from the main airport (which is 100km away), however this part of the island is much less crowded. The Riu offers up a choice of 501 rooms, designed with a modern touch and spaciousness in mind.  24-hour all-inclusive service will be available at this hotel (a rarity in Sri Lanka!) and amenities include multiple swimming pools, a gym and a spa. Culture (Sri Lankan food)

Despite its proximity to India, Sri Lanka has a unique cultural identity. Whereas the majority of people in India follow Hinduism, Sri Lanka’s largest religious group is Buddhism. Sri Lankan food is also less vegetarian-friendly than Indian food. Prepare to eat copious amounts of fresh seafood, spicy curries and sweet desserts! The culture and the food have been permeated by Portuguese influence, creating a unique blend of the two. This can be seen in the architecture as well.

Although there are a variety of languages spoken on the island, you can get away with speaking English. Overall, the people of Sri Lanka are notoriously polite and the country is one of the cleanest in Asia, making it a prime vacation spot.

Wildlife & Activities

Ireland is not the only country to boast the title “The Emerald Isle”. Sri Lanka shares this accolade thanks to its lush landscape, which is marked by thick jungles and natural-forming waterfalls. It is not unusual to run across wild peacocks on your ventures, or to catch a glimpse of a whale on the horizon. Wildlife here is plentiful and well-cared for.
