Los Cabos, Mexico

With plenty of fun for guests young and old, the Riu Santa Fe offers an effortless getaway in Mexico’s southern Baja California Peninsula. With its direct beach location, guests can unwind on sun loungers by stunning, clear water. Or admire the incredible panoramic views from the resort’s infinity pool with swim-up bars nearby serving your favourite tropical beverages. The RiuLand kids’ club features daily entertainment programming for children while parents can keep active with complimentary access to RiuFit workout programs, and a beach volleyball court. The resort restaurants keep appetites pleasantly satiated, including poolside dining options serving authentic Mexican or classic steakhouse favourites. Hop on a bus for a short ride to experience the lively city of Cabo San Lucas and its picturesque marina.

Location: Beachfront property, located in the southern Baja California peninsula, 40 km from the airport and 4.5 km from the town of Cabo San Lucas.

Our Opnion

Rooms were renovated in 2022. Located alongside the Riu Palace Los Cabos and Riu Palace Baja California, the Santa Fe is excellent for couples, families and singles alike. Not too far from the shopping and nightlife of Cabo San Lucas, about a 5 minute cab ride away. The on site water park is a great feature for families. The Super Saver Rooms are located at the back of the resort, farthest from the beach. If you can upgrade to either of the Riu Palace resorts next door, they are well worth it for the step up in class and cuisine. The resort does get a lot of young and lively Spring Breakers in March, so keep that in mind.

Important Info

Strong currents in this area limit ocean swimming. A swim-able beach is located about a 10 minute walk down the beach.

Very nice hotel, for parties it is wonderful, very nice view and customer service, what
The only thing I would comment on is that it doesn't have an elevator in case you have to go up and down stairs, and something I would fail them on is the food 🥲 sad experience, NOTHING NOTHING has flavor, like they use low quality ingredients or the cheapest ones and have no flavor, the cream, the cheese, their sauces, not even the theme restaurants have a good flavor, the snacks in the early morning are terrible 🥹I remember and I want to cry that my stay seemed eternal for me to go out to eat something delicious, ahhh I missed more variety of national beer please 🥺

Just want to say for the great price you pay I don’t think you can find anything to beat this place! The pool view is probably the best and you have 10+ different pools to choose from. 10+ restaurants, nightclubs, beach clubs and 10+ bars it’s just amazing at how much is included with the price. I will definitely stay here again and highly recommend this place. I will start staying at Riu hotels because they really offer more options than you can even experience. I left the resort a few times but really you don’t even need to it’s better just staying at the resort the entire trip especially since it’s right on the beach and everything is free with the hotel price. Also very tentative staff they were all so friendly and professional. Not one complaint. Great jobs Riu!

Title: Animal lovers AVOID! Noisy, poor food, and mediocre service.

Me and my friend booked a week long trip here for a relaxing vacation, but this resort was anything but relaxing. The check-in process was rushed, and there was almost no guidance on how to find your room or help getting your luggage there. This resort is very large, and our room was the furthest building from the entrance. Though I don’t mind the walking, I think a resort this big would really benefit from some sort of trolly or transport service (especially for those arriving/departing with luggage).

I had requested a quiet room, but the Riu Parties were very loud and could be heard at most places in the resort. Even though the parties end at 11pm, there were many noisy drunk guests running around and screaming until early hours of the morning. The sound definitely carries. Plenty of sleepless nights.

The public facilities were very clean and the cleaning staff were lovely, but the food was not good. Almost all the restaurants are buffet style and the food was often cold, bland or under/overcooked. There were two menu restaurants, but the food there was nothing amazing either… though I did prefer them over the buffets.

The the large pool in the middle is definitely quieter than the other party pools, but I did not enjoy being by this pool due to the sick and injured cats roaming around. It was truly heartbreaking to see. These cats are incredibly neglected and begging for food and water. Some had physical deformities and others were so sick they were going blind. I did end up feeding some of these strays, but I was in tears watching these poor helpless animals. I tried looking for shelters in the areas that might be able to help, but they are all full. I recognize that stray animals are common in these areas, but I have stayed at other resorts in Mexico that make an effort to care for the strays. The last resort I stayed at had an entire area with cat houses, and daily food and water. I felt much better staying somewhere where the animals were cared for… I really hope that a resort making so much money makes a more active effort to care for these animals… This was heavy on my mind & heart my entire trip at this resort.

Our room was for the most part clean, but I did notice black mold on the tiles in the shower. We also had a few maintenance issues such as poor water pressure and a 2-inch gap at the bottom of our sliding glass door. This caused a lot of bugs to get in our room, and we often woke up with bug bites.

The entertainment was pretty average… and I feel that many of the shows started too late at night. The musical acts often starting around 9:00 or 9:30, and the only shows prior to this were catered to kids and blasting children’s music in the only gathering area for the evenings. We tried playing some of the games like bingo and kahoot, but they often had technical difficulties causing them to stop the game half way through (which is a bit disappointing).

Overall I do not recommend.

**Edit** I am editing my review after receiving a response. I feel the treatment of the animals has nothing to do with local laws. As I mentioned before, I have stayed at other resorts where they provide shelter and food/water for the local strays. I believe this is something the hotel or Riu franchise could endorse independently from any government laws. I would also like to note that I reached out to a local Cabo animal shelter/rescue after returning home to report the amount of sick/physical injured cats at the resort and offered to fund some sort of rescue for the cats. They informed me they have tried to sort out a program with the hotel before to try and retrieve some of the cats, but the resort refused to participate. Very upsetting knowing local organizations are trying to help and your resort turns them away. I’m heartbroken that I could not do more for these animals. I hope the resort will reconsider their efforts and willingly participate in local rescue efforts in the future. Please reconsider staying here if you care for animal wellbeing.

We found the location and view to be very good. The food is very ordinary and the a la carte restaurants are buffet style. The worst is the noise, impossible to rest, very very noisy day and night. The rooms are renovated and very clean.

. The workers were playing water polo with us and literally slammed me into the water and were not good sports or very nice. I’m a young girl and wanted to have fun but it was kind of rude

I thought we could have a few fun days of lounging by the pool and beach vibe. A bit of a disappointment. I wish I had known that the spring breakers had already arrived and inundated every inch of the pool bars and lounge areas. We are in our 60's, so it seemed awkward to jump in with that crowd. Rooms were clean and maid service was good. March through May just beware.... Drunken 20 somethings party till dawn then / repeat. Wish they had elevators and there is a lot of walking involved. I wish they had bar runners from the beach like Pueblo B. We will pass for a quieter resort next time. Not really 5 star resort in my opinion.

Our week in Cabo was definitely unforgettable. The best decision we made, apart from Cabo itself, was staying at the Riu. The location of the resort is great; right on the water looking out at the famous rock formation. However, the water is very intense and is not safe for swimming (though you can wade in a little).

The food here is great, the buffets had lots of options and really good service from the staff. The restaurants are first come first serve; some you'll get a table at no problem, others you need to show up at 5:30 to book a spot. The American BBQ House is the best food on the resort and usually has a short line.

The drinks are great, and tipping a dollar for a large drink order will get it made quickly and with double shots. The staff are friendly, most speak English and are willing to entertain our tourist Spanish.

The parties are why we chose the Riu and they did not disappoint. From the music, the foam pool, the hookah VIP area and all the young people who filled the pool with dancing bodies, it was a week I'll never forget.

This resort does a great job of keeping the family and child side of the resort separate from the party. Night life is great, with 24hr sports bar service and a nightclub. The Riu was a fun time, a great experience and a week I won't ever forget.

Nice hotel, the service is good and all-inclusive 24hr.
They have several activities to do during your stay at different times of the day.
The only thing is that as there's no elevator, you have to carry all your stuff to the first floor

We had good memories in this resort. Food wasn't in our favor. We all got upset stomach. But we were pleased by good staff and atmosphere.

Delighted everything super delicious

This place is a horror show. Stay at your own risk. Both my kids got food poisoning and were vomiting with diarrhea. When we called to have the garbage cans removed and cleaned from the room they told us they were going to charge us a cleaning fee! The food sucks. The clientele are wasted. The only reason to come here is to drink yourself into a coma.

Amazing Hotel. The service was fantastic and I highly recommend. Be warned though it is huge so requires a lot of walking and most buildings do not have an elevator. We were on the Third floor when we arrived but they were able to change our room the next day so we could be on the ground floor for my 80 year old mother. They have bell hops to assist with luggage and each day the rooms are made up with fresh towels. The buffets are good with lots of selection and there are a lot of restaurant choices.

Very poor service right from the minute we got here
Food service they can’t even keep it stocked during breakfasts and lunch’s and supper, À la cart restaurants greeting staff very rude and not happy to be working also, on two occasions, had to go get our own drinks and Pepsi
Staff are rude at front counter after booking in
Multiple phones and wallets were stolen in our group at the pools we knew where the phones were and hotel and staff would not help at all said they couldn’t help out said they don’t understand
Pool chairs and table do not even get cleaned
People puking in main pool at 10 PM and called the front to tell them watched to see if the sent anyone no one came at all the next morning it was stuck to the edge of the pool and they were pailing it out the next day around noon.
One of our friend in the group lost their wristband while driving a watercraft, and we ended up having to pay for an replacment wristband

We were here back in 2014 and was good
Would not recommend at all maybe a 1/2 star at most

Also still here till Saturday if you care to try to make things right in any way shape or form
We brought 21 staff down on this trip and will for sure be looking elsewhere in the future
Quality control of employees and service definitely need to be looked at

My stay at this majestic hotel was exceptional in every aspect ✨that's why it gets the 5 stars ⭐ As for the beachfront 🏖️ I couldn't have asked for anything better, that view can't be changed for anything 🌊🌞🌴 it's located close to all the main attractions such as the Arco de CABO, the service I received was first class. The hotel staff is at all times very friendly, attentive and always willing to help with anything I needed. From the moment I arrived until my departure, I felt like a very special guest.
The hotel rooms are simply amazing. Its different pools and slides are there to have fun all day long. The events are spectacular.

Impeccable service. Super courteous staff. Warm February temperature.

Book this hotel. Best all inclusive I have been to so far. Liked the food, location, service, the entertainment. Book it have fun.

I came with my girlfriend and we thought it was excellent, we will definitely return...

When I call to here to get shuttle bus terrible customer service,
Please give some training to customer service to help customer as normal custome

What you need to know ;
1. Rooms 8/10
2. Aesthetic 8/10
3. Location 6/10
4. Beach 6/10
5. Service 9/10
6. Pools 7/10
7. Food 5/10
8. Hotel vibes 4/10

1. Rooms, the rooms were clean and spacious. They came in ever day to tidy up and refill the fridge. Beautiful bathrooms.
2. Aesthetic, the hotel itself is beautiful. With lovely walkways and well designed charm.
3. Location, the location was not my favorite. It was right downtown Santa Fe. With a Walmart and fair right across the street. The hotel was also blocked with wire fence and barbed wire. Didn’t give the safest feeling.
4. Beach, the beach was beautiful with a breathtaking view of the Arch. The beach itself is a 10/10. However, there are merchants all over the beach, so be prepared to get approached A LOT.
5. Service, service was wonderful. Everyone we encountered was very kind.
6. Pools, the pools were nice and clean. With lots of pools you had a nice selection. The bar pools got crowded and messy by mid day
7. Food, the food was fine. Not great by any means. But also not bad. You also had plenty of selection, so you can find something, it’s just probably not amazing.
8. Hotel Vibes, although I did enjoy this hotel, I can say I will never revisit it again. The main reason is because it’s a PARTY HOTEL. If you are in your 20’s and want to party, this is the hotel for you. If you are looking for a quiet relaxed hotel, this isn’t it. They have a party 5 days a week and are loud. The late parties go until 11, but the party keeps going. The worst part is the intoxicated people who keep partying in the hallway until sun up and even though you ask the front desk, they do not stop it. I even witnessed a mom having to go out and ask the people to leave because her baby was sleeping (at 2 am). The partiers swore at her and threatened to punch her. Staff did nothing.
Final thoughts, I did really enjoy my vacation here, but I will not go back.

My wife and I really wanted to stay at this hotel while in Cabo. We approached the front lobby seeking a room and they informed us it was sold out. We thanked the staff and as we were leaving an abrasive rude security guard approached us asking that we leave the premises immediately. His intimidating demeanor was simply not necessary for someone who was a willing paying customer seeking a room and was booking an Uber to leave the hotel. I’ve never had an experience like this before…
