Destination Weddings 101: Destinations beyond the Resort Strip

Our wedding blog has been featuring all things that you’d need to know about Destination Weddings in all-inclusive destinations.

After all, there’s nothing better than having a picture perfect wedding by the beach!

Choosing an all-inclusive destination for your wedding is definitely a fantastic choice, we should emphasize that you’re definitely not limited to JUST these types of destinations.

The beauty of destination weddings is that you can host it virtually ANYWHERE you want in the world!

Hosting your wedding at an all-inclusive resort is easy. There are set wedding packages that make choosing and coordinating different facets of your wedding day (ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception) easier and virtually hassle-free.

However, for those who want to truly make their wedding one-of-a-kind, an off site wedding in a unique location might be right for you!

There are some things to keep in mind if you’re entertaining a destination wedding where all-inclusive resorts are a little harder to find. More planning may be involved as you might be collaborating with a variety of outside vendors. It’s good to also be considerate of your guests and their ability to attend your wedding.  Though there is flexibility in accommodations, and the rates might fit guests’ different budgets, airfare and trip expenses like food and entertainment can add up!

If all signs point to YES, then check out these stunning and breathtaking destinations, perfect for any destination wedding:

Santorini – Santorini is one of the most picturesque destinations within Europe. Aside from being surrounded by the stunning sea, its unique architecture makes for a great backdrop with destination weddings. Tourism in Greece is great at the moment. Accommodations and resorts are relatively affordable, making it a great option if you’re thinking of having your wedding in Europe.  The unique landscape and easy transportation to other neighboring islands gives everyone the freedom to explore the destination.

Bali – If you’re familiar with the movie “Eat, Pray, Love,” then you probably know that Bali is the place where Elizabeth found love. How fitting would it be to have your wedding here! Though the destination might require more travel time than others, the stunning and exotic landscapes are definitely worth it! Bali is also a well-known resort destination, meaning there are a plenty of all-inclusive resort choices available for those who want a little more out of their trip.

Sayulita – Just north of Puerto Vallarta is a lazy, bohemian surfer town, perfect for a destination wedding! Sure, Sayulita might be just at the cusp of a popular all-inclusive destination, but that’s why we love it! A little different, but not completely re-inventing the wheel, Sayulita is a great choice for the boho beach couple looking for a destination that is intimate, yet genuinely quirky and beautiful. We love this location for its uniqueness, but also for how easy it is to plan weddings. With lots of resorts close by, planning around this destination will come easier than most.

Though it offers a different landscape, there it still resonate some level of familiarity that will make wedding planning easy. Kauai would be a fantastic choice if you’d rather have a more serene, intimate, and quieter wedding.

Destination Wedding 101: Proposing…to your bridal party!

Pop the question to your bridal party! We've got tips on how (Photo courtesy of Pinterest)

Friendships go through similar trials and tribulations to that of romantic relationships. When you’ve gone through the good, bad, and the ugly with your closest friends, it’s only natural that a proposal is in order for them too!

Nowadays, proposals aren’t meant JUST for brides! ‘Proposing’ to your bridal party is not only a way to assemble your official party, but it’s a creative way to express gratitude to your closest friends.

Proposing to your bridal party for a destination wedding is a tad different. We may have mentioned it in a previous post, but destination weddings do take a good lot of investment from everyone.

This would be the exact case for your bridal party. In addition standing with you on your big day, they are also investing towards this day as much as you!

Here are some ways to ease the pressure off your party:

Suitcase proposals incorporate the travel aspect of your wedding. Make sure to include things that would come in handy during the trip (Photo courtesy of Pinterest)

Give them more time than guests to make a decision: Being a part of the wedding entails as much involvement as you and your partner. When you propose to your bridal party, it’s good to give them plenty of advance notice regarding ‘when and where’ of your big day. This takes pressure off of them to make a quick decision (which can be potentially problematic, if they say YES right away, and are unable to make it).

No Pressure: As much as you’d love for your friends to be there, understand that a destination wedding might not be feasible for some. It’s good to emphasize that they are under no obligation to say ‘yes’ if this was the case.

Cover some necessary expenses: Though it may be out of your budget to cover your bridal party’s travel expenses, it’d be good to cover some other inevitable costs that might add up in their budget. Wedding items like the gowns, suits, and hair & makeup can be a big expense when you’re also paying for flights and accommodations. Covering this, takes off monetary pressure from the bridal party. It’s also a great way to say thank-you to your party for being there!

Host events on destination: Aside from the financial investment, bridal parties also have to put in plenty of time to host pre-wedding events to celebrate you! Try to host your as many of the events while you’re on destination. Not only does this make it easier in terms of determining everyone’s availability (everyone will be there), it also adds more fun during your time on destination!
