THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: WEDDING BEAUTY TIPS FOR YOUR DESTINATION WEDDING
Choosing a hair stylist and makeup artist for your wedding can be daunting. After all, everyone wants to look perfect on their wedding day! This can be even more daunting for those of you having a destination wedding. It can be unnerving to think about having a stylist and makeup artist that you’ve never met before or had the chance to do a practice run with doing your makeup on your big day. Not to worry though--read on for our best insights into making this part of your big day worry free.
Most resorts offer hair and makeup artists on site for your big day. The gorgeous Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta offers comprehensive wedding packages that include all the details so that you don't have to worry about them.
This resort also offers special promotions for couples getting married there--couples have the option of making a trip to the hotel up to 18 months before the wedding to get an idea of the space, see the design options in person, and even try the food!
Making a trial trip to the location you’ve decided on is highly recommended for those having destination weddings. During such a trip, ask the hotel about their makeup and updo services and see about doing a demo. We also recommend you research any makeup and hair stylists in the area to see about meeting them in person and doing something similar.
Deciding on who is going to do your hair and makeup isn’t the only thing you’ll need to decide however. Before meeting with any stylists, do your research and be prepared. For your hair, do you want it to be loose and flowing, or in an updo? Do you want it to be straight, or curled? What type of hair do you have--will you need extra product in it due to potential humidity? Does it hold styles easily, or will you need a lot of hairspray? Do you have a veil or tiara that need to be planned for when you’re getting your hair done?
For makeup, think about the types of looks you like, and even bring pictures with you to show an artist. Do you want to look natural? Glamorous? Do you like a smoky eye, or to keep it minimal? What type of lipstick do you usually wear? You’ll also want to take the colors of your wedding into consideration. The last thing you want is for any colors on your face to clash with the colors of your flowers/tablecloths/bridesmaid dresses. Looking for more makeup tips? Check out our blog post here.

TIPS AND TRICKS FOR TAKING THE BEST WEDDING PHOTOS
An important element to think about when planning your wedding is the photographs. Your actual wedding is only a day long; but your wedding photos capture the moments that will inevitably last a lifetime. You deserve to have photos that make you smile, laugh, and even cry when you look back on them.
So where do you start?
Read on to find out our biggest tips and tricks for acquiring a wedding photographer and getting the best photos out of the occasion.
Finding a Photographer
Finding the right photographer is possibly the most difficult aspect of planning your wedding. Whether you’re having a destination wedding or a wedding at home, finding a photographer can be overwhelming and time-consuming. It's important to consider the following: what type of “style” do you want your wedding photos to be--elegant, casual, quirky or would you like it to resonate a theme? Think about what type of shots you’ll want out of the wedding--some photographers will provide you with a digital copy of all the shots, while others will only provide you with a set number of edited shots they’ve selected at the end.
One of the best things to do is look at as many portfolios as you can so you can get an idea of a photographer's style and pick one that is closely aligned with your own. Ask potential photographers to see a wedding album from beginning to end versus just the best shots they’ve selected. Anyone can take a few good shots at a wedding, but you’ll really see the skill of the photographer when you see every photo they took. Another important thing to do is check out testimonials from other couples about the photographer. If the photographer consistently gets rave reviews, chances are they are good at what they do.
For destination weddings, many of the resorts already have wedding photographers available to you with your wedding package. It’s also highly likely there are wedding photographers available in the area, off the resort. Do your research as you would with an at-home wedding. This is also something to check out when you do a trial visit to the resort in advance of your wedding.
Get to Know Your Photographer
Once you’ve finalized the contract and booked a wedding photographer, it’s a good idea to get to know them. You want this person to be someone you’re comfortable with at the wedding. If you wouldn’t normally want this person around your friends and family, you probably won't want them at your wedding either! Of course, you don’t have to become best friends, but you want someone you have rapport with.
One of the ways to do this is to book an engagement photo session with the photographer several months before your big day. The engagement shoot will allow you to be comfortable having a photographer around taking your photo. It will also give the photographer a chance to get used to shooting you, and get to know what type of shots you and your fiance are OK (or not-so-OK!) with. Going over these photos will also give your photographer a good indication of your favorite style and type of shots. They're also good photos to display at your wedding reception!
Make a Schedule of the Big Day
It’s very important to come up with a schedule of your big day. It doesn't have to be EXACT down to the second, but rather a guideline that will give you and your photographer a good idea of what photo opportunities will arise. For example, noting the times you plan to be getting ready and with whom. This could be a good opportunity for some candid shots with you and your bridesmaids. This schedule will also allow your photographer to allocate certain amounts of time to certain photos.
The bottom line… have fun. It’s your day!
There are a lot of minutiae to attend to when it comes to planning a wedding. It is important to plan in advance and consider all aspects. At the same time however, remember that your day is meant to be beautiful and special, not nerve-wracking and stressful!
