Los Cabos, Mexico

Surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens, the Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas is the place to be in Cabo. A striking resort complete with well manicured grounds, two stunning infinity pools, and awe inspiring views of the Cabo bay and El Arco. Vacationers can spend their days relaxing by the sprawling oceanfront pools, with two swim-up bars and magnificent views of the coast. After a perfect day in paradise, guests can retire to spacious accommodations with exclusive RIU-topia and RIU Palace inclusions such in-room liquor dispensers, unlimited reservation-free dining and more.

Location: Beachfront on the Southern Baja California peninsula, 4.5 km to the town of Cabo San Lucas, 40 km from the airport.

Our Opnion

One of our more popular picks in Los Cabos, the Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas is a splendid resort. However, keep in mind that while being rated 5 stars, it is not a top-end luxury resort, so temper expectations accordingly. Two large infinity pools offer great views of the cruise ships and Los Arcos. One of the pools is more lively and the other a more relaxed atmosphere. The beach here is expansive, but swimming in the ocean is not recommended because of strong currents. You can however walk about 1km down the beach to a nice swimmable area. This resort is a great getaway for couples and families. Singles and might prefer the more active and lively setting of the Riu Santa Fe next door. Guest of the Riu Palace can use the facilities of the two adjacent Riu properties, the Riu Santa Fe right next door and the Riu Palace Baja California, a short stroll down the beach. The Riu Santa Fe has a larger gym and an expansive waterpark.

Important Info
Note: Strong currents in this area limit ocean swimming.

I loved it, the buffet was very rich, the attention of the staff was very friendly, I will definitely return

Today is my last day staying at this beautifully situated resort on the coast of Baja. Please keep in mind that as I give my review, my experience is a an elite club guest. We stayed in Room 0236 with a spectacular view of the Cabo arcs.

EC has some perks I can exclusive room service menu for breakfast and for dinner. First line access to the restaurants reservations before anyone else. You also have an excluded section of cabana beds. There is an elite club restaurant for those guest only and a private coffee shop.

Was it worth it… Absolutely! Don’t skimp do the upgrade and treat yourselves to a little luxury if you can.

Comparing the Baja to the Palace (also on same compound) the Baja kicked its behind all the way around. Baja is very modern look, and it’s an adult only! The palace in my opinion needs a serious facelift its outdated rooms 20 and the food was okay. Both properties have a Cristal restaurant which is supposed to be a higher end.

FOOD:
There were plenty of healthy options. If you’re a vegetarian you will have some good options at each restaurant. BUT if you are looking for a tasty steak- ALL of the restaurants fell short except for one…the Italian “Sofia”. Everything there was delicious. From the appetizer to the pasta, the parmesan wheel the bread, the pizza, the soup everything was outstanding. We all loved our meal. In my opinion this is the best tasting restaurant they have on the property. I had the osobucco it was soft it was buttery. We loved it so much we booked it twice.

EC restaurant for EC guest only. Great service, beautiful ambience but the food fell short. My husband and I got the cowboy steak. The steak was extremely fatty, Very tough to chewy

The other restaurants really not worth mentioning so I’ll go to the my Top two favorites for dinner were the Italian, Sofia and the Japanese Yuhi. For lunch Pepe food had a tasty burger and tacos! Buffet was also a safe and food choice.

What I didn’t like about this property was the limited availabilities of cabana beds facing the ocean. A lot of non-elite club members were taking up the good beds I felt there was very poor management and that regard. A lot of in an outs and members from other Riu’s coming into the property. Noise level was loud from the sister resort Santa Fe. Keep in mind your at an all inclusive resort so that comes with the Territory.

One negative note, We ordered a bottle of tequila. It was noted in the notes at the front desk. They claimed they delivered it, but I never got to our room. Another thing I didn’t like about the wristbands they’re not tight enough, and they will fall off. The charge to replace it if lost is Thousand pesos which is equivalent to about 50 American US dollars so make sure you get a bracelet well secured. Both my husbands and I fell off.

I don’t drink alcohol but it’s with mentioning that they can make any drink you want virgin style! This is not a big deal but again my own experience. The bars don’t open until 9:30am. I asked for bartender for water about 9:20 in the morning the gentleman turned me away said that he wasn’t open until 9:30am. I’m an EC guest with a small request for water that was disappointing.

The pros of using the spa on the property is you will not be harassed by vendors who are trying to sell you everything underneath the moon. So if you’re looking for a quiet experience where you will not be bothered, pay the extra money and get it at the spa.

One of the nights my husband got sick from a room service. There is a doctor at the Baja but there is one at the palace resort. You need medication there is a Walmart 8 mins away from the resort.

Transportion to and from the hotel
Taxis are always gonna be overpriced so if you have Uber, that’s the best way to go. We waited about 45 minutes at the airport before it showed the shuttle picked us up. It literally picks up all of the guest staying at all three resorts so you’ll be waiting for awhile.

Be sure to pack a sweater or something warm as its outdoor entrainment gets rather chilly.

This is a great place for a vacation and to have fun! 😄😄 Highly recommended this resort!

The good: the Riuland kids staff are so kind and fun for the kids! Gracia, Johnny, Orlando.. every kid person was SO GREAT. The buffet was good too- lots of healthy (and not so healthy options).
The bad: outdated rooms- outlet barely worked, dark, drawers didn’t close, ice machines didn’t work, unfriendly front desk, and the restaurant food was just terrible. They only give one room key and threaten to charge you if you lose it. Room service takes hours. Room had a view of the party Santa Fe next door…
Wouldn’t go back, even with kids. Way too big to upkeep and it really showed. This was our third visit to Cabo in a year and the worst resort by far.

Rooms are underwhelming. Food is not good. Prepared ahead of time, always cold. Bland, low quality. The view is great. Baja is overrated.

It is a very nice hotel, they have excellent service, I love it, everyone takes great care of you, they are very friendly, the location is super good, I love it, without a doubt my favorite hotel

A very fun place, you had an excellent time in terms of partying, food and drinks.

I’m perplexed by the negative reviews. This place is fantastic, especially for the price for a TRULY all inclusive resort. Super safe with huge grounds and lots to do. Incredible location right on the beach. Incredibly clean and comfortable room. The all inclusive buffet was fabulous and this is coming from a nutritionist - beautiful selection of fresh fruit, veggies and an excellent variety of protein sources among many other dishes not to mention great options at multiple restaurants for more formal lunches and dinners.

I was truly impressed with the staff, constantly cleaning, constantly and keeping the grounds well manicured. The food was incredibly well prepared, breakfast lunch and dinner every day. I don’t drink, but I was still impressed with the generous amounts of alcohol offered as part of the AI. You pretty much have a fully stocked, high quality bar in your room that gets replenished….included in the room rate 😳

Multiple pools with many comfy loungers, two gyms (gym is a bit dated who cares when lifting weights) and staff were wonderful and accommodating. The one negative thing I could possibly agree upon is the noise coming from outside the room - People order room service all through the night so the carts going down the halls are a bit loud, but come on, look at the size of hotel, there’s bound to be noise. Grab some ear plugs.

We needed a getaway to unplug and reset, stayed for six nights, and wish we could’ve stayed longer - we had the most peaceful sleeps in a long while. Waking up at the crack of dawn to that beautiful sunrise and warm breeze, listening to birds chirping and taking a long walk on the gorgeous white sand beach when most people are just waking up…priceless. The place is close to paradise. Can hardly wait to go back. Seriously don’t understand how people can complain about this place. Definitely staying again

Beautiful views and pools!! Staff was very friendly and spoke every morning. However, we had poop stains on our bedding the very first night we checked in!!! My husband and I were celebrating our 11 year anniversary and they told me they weren't aware it which was a lie. Food smelt better then it tasted. For the amount of money we paid I was a little disappointed! Definitely needs an update!! Forgot to mention the wall outlets were coming off the wall!! SMH. Management didn't make it right after we brought up all the issues.

Great location and views.
Front desk staff failed to let us know about the entertainment schedules so we missed a lot of it and only found out once it had all started or saw a crowd.
Would NOT recommend the steakhouse restaurant. The steak was so tough I couldn't eat it. The lobster dinner was a tiny piece of lobster and not nearly enough food. The picture is deceiving! If you miss the line to get in when it opens, be prepared to wait a long time. Service is slow!! They also try to wait until the first set of people finish before letting the other group in. Even the waiters said this. We went there twice.
The buffet restaurant was amazing! Lots to choose from and very good. Would recommend breakfast and dinner time.
My favorite was the taco stand by the pool. Staff was super nice and the food was great. Bartenders were all nice as well throughout the resort.
We had an ocean view room which was great! I would recommend asking for a room closest to the ocean to get a nicer view. Most are side views but it was still a great view.
There is an awesome bar by the front desk. We went in February so it got chilly at night. They would not turn on the space heaters unless people asked and every night, they would say they were out of gas and be filled in a few days. Then a few minutes later, they were all ON! This happened for 4 nights straight! Every night it was the same excuse and until a guest would try to turn them on themselves, that's when the manager would come and turn it on. Or just turn them on when they felt like it.
Stop being stingy esp when we pay so much to stay there.
Plenty of seating throughout the pool and beach. February was not crowded at all which I loved.
Would definitely go back, but now I know what to look for.

Excellent location mainly to see whales from the hotel, you don't need to go out, at a distance of 5 km you can see the whales jumping, incredible sensation

They let us in well before 3 PM and they let us out until 5 PM although we handed over keys at 11 AM we had access to all inclusive so we were happy and very happy in this hotel.

Would certainly stay here again

The Friday party 🩷 pink party is the best

It's a solid 4. The food/location/drinks are great. Amazing location, beautiful views. The rooms need work. Getting old. Beds aren't comfortable. AC is trash. Swim up room not worth it. Especially not since the smoking areas are right there. This was our 4th time on the property.
