Punta Cana Princess Hotel Reviews

Rating:
"I have followed reviews of this resort for a couple of months prior to going there. The only good things about this resort are the pool and beach. Nelson at the pool bar was great and bartenders at lobby bar- that is it. Upon arrival to resort, we wanted something to eat so we went to the beach restaraunt where all there was to eat was chips and cold melted cheese. We were then told to move outside (this happened multiple times to other people in the middle of eating) to order food so they could set up the dinner tables, so we thought ok no big deal. We waited outside at wet tables for 30 minutes with no order taken. There was no where else to go get food so pool bar it was. We thought maybe we just didn't know the system yet, but were a little shocked being new arrivals and not having any service at all. When you go for dinner, 50% of the time you will sit at your table for at least 20 minutes before you are even acknowledged or receive a glass of water. Italian food was ok but the only spice known seems to be salt. Fondue restaraunt seemed really cool but it wasn't. Again service sucked and we only made it thru the appetizer before walking out. Tex Mex- worst service of all. Wait was over an hour at all times and we kept getting asked if we had reservations(there is no reservations) Very rude waitstaff. At Tex Mex I ordered a steak, on the menu it said comes with mixed vegatables. I have a severe allergy to mushrooms so I asked them if there are any on this steak dish (which I heard was supposed to be really good). They said no. When I received my plate, my steak was covered with mushrooms! Again I said I can not eat mushrooms and I need a new cooked steak. He said ok, brought the plate back, and the chef took the plate and wiped the mushrooms off and gave it back!!!!!!!!!!!! I watched him!! At that point I was so disgusted and again walked out. Don't order room service if you are very hungry. This was only the second night of our stay. Expect a 2 hour wait and half of the room service menu you have to pay for. Room service options: continental breakfast or you can pay for eggs and bacon, before 10 pm- pizza, hot dog, soup and salad, and chicken, flan and fruit. After 10 pm- hot dog, pizza and chicken. Nothing is good-tried it all. Certainly wasn't going to pay for the food- I was at an all inclusive resort! Lunch and dinner are ok and only at the main buffet. This is not about being a picky eater, it is about bad quality and horrible service. Don't go to the Dominican Beach night! We thought it would be a nice time eating on the beach, however before you could even get to the beach, you had to walk thru multiple local vendors that were allowed to set their tables up and try to sell you everything. No is not an option to them, they will keep persisting you buy something!! They would even grab your arm if you tried to walk away after saying no thank you! One poor woman even got her drink spilled all over her dress by them grabbing her arm! With this being said- we didn't even make it by the first table! Who wants to be harrassed on vacation? With all of these problems- our last two days were at another resort because we could not stay at Punta Cana Princess any longer! We called from the other resort to check out and they said we had phone charges worth $12 (which could not be paid over the phone) So my response was "you should owe me money- I left 2 days early!" I told him I left because of the service and food and I was told that it was not their problem we didn't like it and that they didn't force us to go to Punta Cana Princess! I was told I was speaking to the Guest Service Manager. So needless to say, I would not even refer this resort to my worst enemy and wouldn't return for free! The best thing about the trip to this resort was the people we met (which had all the same problems just shared). Please email with any questions- I will be happy to help you not make the worst mistake ever"

"We enjoyed Punta Cana very much, the weather, food, beaches and the people. We stayed at the Punta Cana Princess and the people where all very helpful and friendly except for the female at the guest services. We have never seen such clean beaches. The only bad incident was at the airport leaving and when they weighed the baggage and stated we where over by 4KG ($20.00 per 1KG over) and wanted $80.00. Thank goodness when we where in the bus the Sunwing advisor did state if any problems then call the Sunwing rep. and they would help you. So we called him over and he said if we had any cameras or diving gear or wallets in the bagge to remove as they cannot charge for those. So we emptied our carryons and then we where at the weight limit. Of course the people at the booth would not tell us this and we should have been told this to being with and we would have removed from our baggage to begin with. Overall the trip was excellent and we can understand why people keep going back."

"This hotel is an adult only resort. No kids running around in any of the facilities.
There was a good combination of young and older adults.
The resort grounds and the rooms were extremely well maintained and the grounds are beautiful.
From the entrance lobby to the beach, all was in very close walking distance. We found some of the other resorts lacked and some even had mini buses running for their guests- YUK.
The resort rooms were located in units. Closer to the beach and the pool are units numbered in the 4000/5000's (recommend for center of all action). There are three levels (ground middle and upper) in each of the units. All units connect via walkways. Most rooms had an ocean/pool view. There were some at the first part where you walk in just after the lobby, that did not have that good a view or very little. The pool was very good and easy access from all units.
The theme restaurants were adequate but not overly impressive. The main buffet was super excellent!
Lots of choices morning, noon and night. (the banana bread in the morning is a MUST HAVE!)
There is 24hour medical facility on premise as well as small gift and supplies shops (tanning lotions/ snacks/ etc. but expensive).
The service people are all friendly, helpful and eager to please you. The only complaint we have in the service group is the guest services. They really are not that helpful in providing information other than the standard- "Ask Your Tour Rep".
The weather was excellent with a few periods of rain that lasted about 5 minutes and almost always at night while you sleep.
The beach was tops! White sands, super clean and not too many vendors or timeshare vulchers.

5 minutes to other hotels, shopping at street vendors via taxi or busses. (Bavaro Princess and in front of it is the Tower Casino).
Walking distance is maybe 1/2 hour+
Behind the resorts is a large golf course with a roadway circling it so for runners there is a circle of road that is good.

Most activities can be bought at the SeaPro Divers shack on the beach. Wind surfing, boat excursions (the "party boat" tour is snorkelling and then a party in a natural pool area in the ocean- highly recommend even it you don't snorkel) etc.

Once the other two ajoining Princess hotels open (Nov.22 high season) there will be more to walk, see and do).

So all in all, if you want a great place in an adult only venue (some of the other resorts have adult "sections" but those we spoke to from those said it was not what they expected), want good food, excellent staff service (mainly) and an easy walk around resort with a SuperBeach front- THIS IS THE PLACE."

"My boyfriend and I were very upset about many of the rules of this all inclusive resort. When booking the trip we should have been informed that the a la cart restaurants required men to wear closed toe shoes and dress pants and shirts with short sleeves. You were not allowed to wear dress shorts of any kind and no dress tank tops. We very stressed because we thought that we would be unable to eat. Even the buffet restaurant was strict. Who brings pants and closed shoes on vacation when its 40 degrees outside are you crazy? Luckily he had brought 3/4 length shorts, they were even iffy about that but they let us in. The hotel was far from full capacity so for them to be this strict was wrong, can you imagine you pay for a vacation and you cannot eat. And by the way there was no 24hr food buffet and the room service was very limited. Once they closed for lunch /breakfast there was no where to snack, you had to wait until dinner. After the 3rd day we found ourselves stocking up on food and taking it to our room so we can have a snack throughout the day. From all the vacation spots that we have been to this is the 1st time this has happened to us. Another problem was at the airport we had run out of American dollars. They had one bank machine that was not working and the office where they do the money exchange, the person behind the desk did not know how to do an exchange for Canadian dollars to pesos. We were left borrowing American dollars from strangers. We were at the airport waiting for our flight with nothing to drink and no food. what a bad experience. Do not carry Canadian dollars on you!!!!"

"We liked the fact that the hotel was smaller, and adults only. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The grounds are very well kept and extremely clean. The food and drinks were mediocre at best (typical of most all-inclusives). This resort is great for a week-long getaway and is good value for money...certainly not something I'd recommend for a wedding/honeymoon though."

"It saddens me to write this report, because our vacation was wonderful. However, while my property was in the hotel's luggage storage, my ipod was taken. This luggage lock up is accessed only by the staff. The hotel will not take any responsibility for the theft and follow the neccessary protocol. I would like prospective clientel to know this before they book with this hotel. I would hate for it to happen to anyone else."

"We stayed at the Princess All Suites for one week. This is a beautiful, small, quiet, adults only resort, i.e. not the place to head to if you like to party. Although, you can take the trolley to the other two Princess resorts and enjoy the night life there. We enjoyed the nightly entertainment on two occasions. The hotel premises are immaculate and the rooms clean and spacious. The free safe was a bonus. Each day our bar fridge was filled with beer (MGB) and pop, the complementary fruit was excellent. The hotel staff was top notch, seeing to our every need. You never felt you needed to tip, however we did tip almost all staff on the last day or so – don’t forget the grounds keepers. Many of the staff at this resort work from 9am till after midnight and generally for several weeks before a break. Beach: ABSOLUTELY perfect, clean, quite, and tones of space and comfy palapas. No need to ever reserve a space. The beach bar staff was continuously bringing drinks. YOu can order any international drink you like - a real plus. Food: The buffet was excellent (get their when its fresh) and the a la cart fun. The Tex Mex had the best piece of Filet mignon we’ve had in years. There was a mix up with our reservations, but the staff was prompt to help us out. You could order a bottle of import wine ($$), but I found their house wine perfectly acceptable. Would go back in a heartbeat."

"Very clean, beautiful gardens, great maintenance of the beach daily, friendly atmosphere and staff. Compared to the other brother hotels beside the Princess was new and furniture in reception in very good condition, hope you keep it like that always. Saw the manager or administrator checking everyday buffet, installations, etc. great job! Food very good, excelent presentation of restaurants, variety, themes appropriate. Linen in good condition but towels somewhat used and discolored."
