Occidental Grand Punta Cana Hotel Reviews

Rating:
"My husband and I just visited this resort for our honeymoon, and it was quite nice. The beach was gorgeous, and the view was amazing. The nightly entertainment was a very talented group of people! One big thing -- if you enjoy a good meal, this resort is not too great for options -- it was the same mediocre food everyday. The a la cartes were blande, and the proportions were very small."

"The hotel room was very big and beautiful. However, there was a lot of little bugs all over the bathroom, specially around the sink. The beach was amazing, clear blue water (very warm), white sand and hot and sunny weather for the entire week. A lot of restaurants (the pizza is amazing). The staff was nice but a little anoying. The people who go to this resort come from all over the world, which is cool. The pools were big but the water was really warm. The drinks (which are included) were good and strong. "

"Not as they rate it, nothing worked in our room. We requested a crib prior to our departure, in fact we were promised one but when we got there it was a entire different story. Air conditionning was not working, fridge not working -in fact in took them a few days to even come take a look at it. Front desk crew not helpful at all, very rude on the phone when you tried to call them. Food at the buffet was the same old thing for the entire week. Beach was wonderful, kiddie pool dirty, not well maintained at all. Definetely not a 4.5 star hotel, would really hesitate before recommending it to a family member or friend."

"The staff here are amazing. Absolutely incredible, actually. Many of them speak three languages (English, Spanish, French), and will still be friendly to people even if you are one of those people believe that everyone should speak your language. Everyone will say hi, smile, and do whatever you ask of them. The food is good. Nothing fantastic, and the a la cartes were a grateful change from "le buffet". Make sure you bother to make reservations at the restaurants, because they are worth it and the buffet can get old fast. Lunch doesn't really have any selection, but breakfast is fantastic. The BEACH is like nothing you have ever seen before. It is by far the best section on the strip. We walked up and down the beach in both directions, and the Occidental Grand has the calmest waters, least seaweed, and widest section of beach. The quality of the beach over the other resorts is enough to book this one over others. I can't give it five stars because there were problems - water turned off, power went out (which is common in the DR), and the off season meant many sections were closed... but the people, and the beach make up for any sort of glitch there may have been. PS. there ARE mosquitos. BRING bug spray and USE it! May 24-31, 2008"

"The Occidental Grand is an older resort but is kept clean and maintenanced for the most part. Our room had a broken mirror and shower head, and a leaking air conditioner unit. All the people that worked in the resort were quite helpful, but language was a definite barrier in figuring out how things worked around the resort. Don't miss the orientation tour as we did! We were told to attend the next day, but weren't told where - All in all it was worth it; but it would have been a little more enjoyable to not have been there in such crowded conditions, as it was a school break."

"This resort was a little above average and we would rate it a 4*. The rooms were average, but kept clean. The food at the buffet was excellent. Entertainment was good on the night we went. The grounds were absolutely beautiful and well maintained. The drinks were also excellent, pretty much any drink you wanted, they made. The beach was the ultimate highlight. I don't think you could find a better beach than this one. The staff was friendly but the service was very slow, so you have to be patient. Sometimes you would have to ask for things 2 or 3 times before getting. But all in all we would recommend this resort. "

"Hotel was comparible to the price we paid however I would not give it 4 stars. The staff were not friendly nor did they go out of their way to speak english. We had requested that 1 of the 2 rooms we rented have 2 double beds because our 2 teenage boys were staying together. When we arrived each room had a queen bed. Needless to say the problem was not corrected because they didn't have a room with 2 double beds so 1 of the boys slept on a cot for the week. We have been to the DR 5 times and have always enjoyed the stay and always found the staff and the people at the hotels more than helpful. Not the case at this hotel."
