"Riu is a good chain. We have been to many of their resorts. We spent 2 weeks at the Riu Taino. It is the oldest Riu we have been to, and I knew this before booking. It is 2 resorts joined into one Large one, with 2 Pools. Older section has the small pool, Our part had the swim up bar Pool. You can use all the Pools, even at the other 2 Rius, just NOT the 2 Palaces. The bldgs are only 2 story bungalows, 2 rooms up 2 Down. Small pool area has bldgs with 4 Up and 4 down. Room: We were lucky to get a VIEW room in bldg. 24, room 3,Up. It was dated, but Very Clean. Tub worn, No mold, No bad smell. Clean white sheets, towels, stocked Bar, 4 liqours, stocked fridge with beer & pop, in room Safe, all FREE. Bottled water, shampoo, lotion, towels, NO face clothes. Pillows very flat, need to be replaced, we just asked for more and got more. Huge Deck to look at the wonderful gardens, tall palm trees and the Ocean, with drink in hand. Food: Just fine, went to Steak House, it was very good. Buffet was very good, with theme nights every night. Love the hard ice cream and toppings. Drinks: very good. Just tip a little and you will not even have to ask, they remember what you drink. Service: Fantastic, from desk to maid to servers. All you have to do is ask nicely for what ever you need and you will get it. Beach: Fantastic, best we have been too, worth the dated rooms. Walk for miles and miles, and no shoes needed. Entertainment: as always at a Riu, same reviews,dance teams, very well done. Did not go to the comedy/guest nights as they are dumb. Horseshoes, darts, beach, water ball, tons of things to keep one happy. Lots of things for kids to do at kids club too. No wristbands to wear is a bonus. Shopping on site in shops, or down the beach at Vendors about half mile walk. ATM on site which we used to get pesos with no trouble at all. We enjoyed the Riu Taino and one evening at the Riu Bambu. We would return again, if the price was good. "

"Riu Taino is very nice "installation" to live in. Quite big area with number of two-level bungalows in a "palm forest". The food is very satisfactory. And that is all good. Bad is: non stop noise of stupid animations, lack of any deeper swimming pool, a lot of drinkers around pool bar .. AND !!! totally low level of water sports services. Half time it is not possible to get any katamaran, kayak or windsurfing, because (as they say): "wind is too much strong sir" or "it is wavey today"... In general: it is hotel for fat and lazy people, or older people, who wants to lay arround the pool, or at the beach ... or walk in shadow of palms... and drink medium quality drnks. I was day by day disgusted by several water sports unabilities."

"This resort has a 5 star rating by Sunquest? Based on what criteria? Our room #532 had black mold in the shower area....a small window to vent out moisture and paint all over the tub. Lighting was so poor I had to put makeup on outdoors on the patio. Food was recycled far too often. Bartenders were rude and aside from the beach and the grounds this is the only part of the resort that I would say deserves a 5 star rating. Perhaps Sunquest needs to review its rating on this property. It is the oldest of the Riu properties and needs a major overhaul. We were very let down having chosen a 5 star resort only to find it sub par in many areas. Will never return to this resort... have stayed at far better. I am not Riully brainwashed like others have been! : ( Suzanne"
