Our Opinion of Bahia Principe Tulum

The Bahia Principe Tulum is a nice family oriented property with a 1km long sandy beach. Popular with couples and families, this resort offers good service and food along with tons of activities. The Bahia Principe complex is home to 3 resorts, the Tulum as well as the Bahia Principe Akumal and Bahia Principe Coba, so guest have access to lots of facilities. The Bahia Principe Resorts are a great choice for singles, couples and families looking for a memorable Riviera Maya vacation.

Bahia Principe Tulum Information

You'll fall in love with this modern, spacious Mayan Paradise, perched on an all natural snow white bed of soft sand. Beautifully designed by a prestigous Mexican architect with all the warmth of Mexican tradition and built with materials such as stone, talavera pottery, marble, large palapas, and hardwood. Enjoy the Mexican-style commercial and entertainment village of Hacienda Dona Isabel for great shopping and fun filled evenings of entertainment. The Bahia Principe Tulum is a fantastic relaxing getaway for everyone.

Location: On the beach, 35 min drive to Playa del Carmen, 20 min drive to the Mayan ruins of Tulum, 60 min from the airport.

Bahia Principe Tulum Hotel Reviews

Rating:
"That resort was a disappointment to us, partly because we expected a place equal in quality to the Palladium. It certainly wasn't! We booked the Diamond Section which cost a bit more but gives you hardly any extras. Not only that but the staff doesn't care who comes into that section from the cheaper part of the resort. Food: Ice Cream only twice a week. Instead of Fruit Juice you get Pineapple - Water. The safe you have to pay for. The beach is totally rocky and not swimmable. The main pool is too shallow . Books that guests leave behind.......36 when I counted. Higher priced drinks (like Drambui) not available . Computers: Yes there were 2 of them at the Diamond reception but they were usually - especially in the evening used by guests from the other part . The Resort is poorly managed. The Gen. Manager is not very interested in the opinion of disappointed guests. Would I recommend it? Definitely not unless it was 30% cheaper."

"This was the second time staying at the Gran Bahia Principe Hotel(this time we stayed at the Tulum-1st time @ Akumal)
It is a great resort and huge.
Lots of good food with plenty of variety.
Staff was friendly& hard working($ 4 minimum wage per Day!!!(Remember to tip)
We had a problem with a dark musty smelling room, but we were able to change rooms to a 3rd floor and the problem was gone(also got a better view)
We were married at this resort and it was wonderful-stress free.
The mosquitos were only bad 1 night at dusk when the wind had died down.(really bad)There did seem to be more at the Coba hotel as well (further inland.)

This was also the second time booking with Escapes.ca,it was so easy and absolutely now problems.

4&5 Star in Mexico are different than in North America,If you're hard to please, maybe it's not the best choice for you,but for most people it is paradise.
Just remember it's Mexico-relax.

"We stayed at the Diamond club section of the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum. As part of the Club Diamond we had 4 a la carte as well as access to a reserved pool, bar and restaurant (Tequilla) for breakfast and lunch. Club Diamond is like a small resort that is part of the massif resort, we never had lineups at the bar, never had any problems finding palapas, no need to play the towel game. You also do your a la carte reservation when you book in, no need to line up for it.

For the a la carte we selected the Dolce Vita, Fruitos del mar, Don Pablo and Arlequin all of which were delicious. The buffet had a very large selection, the one fault we found with the buffet was that the food wasn't kept warm enough, you can also opt for the made to order pasta which was always made fresh.

We visited the 3 resorts, the transportation between the resort is very efficient. All of the resorts were beautiful and impeccably clean. We found the main pool at the Akumal resort the most interesting. The beach is very long, very calm in some section and wavy in some other. The snorkeling is good in some area, we selected to snorkel just north of the Tulum and saw a large variety of fish including squids!

The shows we did see were some of the best for an all inclusive within this price range. They also had a band and dancing in the lobby bar till 11:00 pm after which you could move the party to the hacienda.

The guest service was the friendliest I ever seen, I would highly recommend this resort and I'm looking forward to a return visit."

"We actually visited the Akumal portion of the Bahia for one week and then the Tulum for the second week. It was our first time at the Akumal and this was due to the flu scare of the recent month. Anyway, the entire Bahia complex is a great place to experience a relaxing vacation no matter which hotel you visit. Our preference is the Tulum as this was our 20th visit over the past 8 years. The complex has what everyone needs from restaurants, beaches, activites and most importantly, wonderful and friendly people. And oh yeah, the food is great as well. We have recommended this resort to many friends who have enjoyed their stays and returned as well. We have been to other locations in the area, but still prefer this resort. And remember, don't let the little things ruin your vacation....enjoy the time you have purchased and make the best of it. Thanks.....GTC"

"The resort is about 2 hour away from the airport, although I did know that in advance.

Arrived at the Tulum at 10 PM and after checking in went to try and get something to eat. Eventually was directed to the 24 hour snack bar where we ordered something.

The beach was close to our room as we were in 3222 and though this is great, it was a fair way from the main hotel bar and buffet restaurant. True they do have little golf buggys running around and you can wait for one but by the time you have waited you could have already been there.

The entertainment is great as you have access to all three hotels so even while staying at the Tulum we still went to the other two hotels the Coba and Akumal.

The bars in all three hotels were really good as was the service.

The food I found to be not quite as good as expected. The buffet food I often found either cold or luke warm especially at the 24 hour snack bar, used mostly during the day. They really need to close the lids on the food trays and it would help to have signs telling people to do it.

The beach is very clean and well maintained not as many beach vendors as is typical. The rooms are simple but clean, I prefer stand up showers as opposed to showers in baths, but thats a personal preference.

The iguanas can be a bit of a surprise if you are not expecting them.

"We have visited this all inclusive 17 times in the last 8 years and have met many friends including other guests, but more importantly, as well as within the hotel staff. The employees are by far, among the best we have experienced. The friendships that we have grown over the years are more than just Hello, do you remember us? We are treated very respectfully from the maid to upper management...and likewise, they are treated by us with the best regard and respect. I won't go on as I could not find anything other than positive comments to say and there wold be many. The resort itself is wonderful and has many amenities for all ages...Try it....,many of our friends have and also return for more visits. Thank you.....Gerry Cook"

"Hotel is seriously out of date and run down. In now way could this property be classified as a 5 star or even a 4 star for that matter. Very disappointing considering the Bahia in Runaway Bay Jamaica is so fantastic. The property is very dirty, old, and in need of serious repair in order to regain its status as a luxury property. Although the Coba appeared to be very nice as you have access to all 3 properties while staying at any of the resorts, due to its proximity to the beach, I would not recommend this either."

"Friends stayed at the tulum last year and recommended it to us.We had a great time. Food is totally excellent. Entertainement staff at pool are great fun to watch even if not participating in games. Prices at shops in lobbys are not more than in playa carmen, in some cases cheapper than duty free. Beaches were a bit crowded for our liking but most people would not mind I'm sure. "
