Los Cabos, Mexico

With plenty of fun for guests young and old, the Riu Santa Fe offers an effortless getaway in Mexico’s southern Baja California Peninsula. With its direct beach location, guests can unwind on sun loungers by stunning, clear water. Or admire the incredible panoramic views from the resort’s infinity pool with swim-up bars nearby serving your favourite tropical beverages. The RiuLand kids’ club features daily entertainment programming for children while parents can keep active with complimentary access to RiuFit workout programs, and a beach volleyball court. The resort restaurants keep appetites pleasantly satiated, including poolside dining options serving authentic Mexican or classic steakhouse favourites. Hop on a bus for a short ride to experience the lively city of Cabo San Lucas and its picturesque marina.

Location: Beachfront property, located in the southern Baja California peninsula, 40 km from the airport and 4.5 km from the town of Cabo San Lucas.

Our Opnion

Rooms were renovated in 2022. Located alongside the Riu Palace Los Cabos and Riu Palace Baja California, the Santa Fe is excellent for couples, families and singles alike. Not too far from the shopping and nightlife of Cabo San Lucas, about a 5 minute cab ride away. The on site water park is a great feature for families. The Super Saver Rooms are located at the back of the resort, farthest from the beach. If you can upgrade to either of the Riu Palace resorts next door, they are well worth it for the step up in class and cuisine. The resort does get a lot of young and lively Spring Breakers in March, so keep that in mind.

Important Info

Strong currents in this area limit ocean swimming. A swim-able beach is located about a 10 minute walk down the beach.

Don’t waste your time staying here spend the extra money and stay either at palace or another resort. Figured we would save a little bit of money by staying here. Horrible choice!! The food was absolutely horrible! I would much rather eat McDonalds for every meal. The only place that has somewhat good food is the American country. But be careful if you go there for lunch as you’re only allowed one place for lunch. (So much for all-inclusive) Got yelled at by who I think was the manager of the restaurant. Not sure as all she did was coming up yelling at us that we could only have one plate. Didn’t say her name or anything.

Also the rooms are nice but the beds absolutely suck. Asked for a king and it was 2 full sized beds pushed together. Not a huge deal other my neck and shoulders are dead. Showers also have no pressure so it is hard to wash soap off. Also there are no elevators in some of the buildings which sucks because you have to walk so far to get anywhere on the property.

The Alcohol is also bottom shelf. And the quality of liquor is horrible.

Save yourselves the headache and just stay anywhere else!!

The party’s are a pretty good time! But if you stay at the palace or Baja California I think you can still get into the party’s.

The best 👌 if you like to party this is the best hotel in cabos for party people 😉😊

My husband and I stayed here last week and it was the best vacation ever. The staff were so amazing, helped and kind to everyone. Our room was incredible with an amazing view. I loved the whole experience and we are planning our next visit and recommending this place to everyone. Thank you to all the staff for all you do to make everyone's stay the best

Alejando is the best bartender! 10/10 recommended him to look for him for the next trip. If anyone knows how to have a good time, it's Alejandro and Citlali.

Excellent all inclusive, one is very happy with this concept.

RIU Santa Fe was an amazing experience for myself, my fiance, and my sister! There was always somewhere to get a drink or a snack at a 24/7 sports bar. Downloading the RIU app was also very helpful to understand what dining and bar options were open at what times! This is also a good place to see what free activities are available such as volleyball, yoga, and the theme parties! The liquor options were also fairly nice with known brands and not just bottom shelf type liquors.

All the parties, and the resort itself, felt very safe with an amazing security team. They kept the party going and everyone having a great time but also keeping dangerous activities under control. For example, when people were standing up on the edge of a wet pool (falling hazard) they would blow a whistle to let people know to not stand there for their safety. When we requested some more blankets and water bottles as well, they were brought up to the room within the hour!

An absolute highlight of the trip was the Americano restaurant and the amazing bartender Luis! He made fantastic cocktails and was always happy to chit chat with us evening while juggling numerous drink orders. He is absolutely amazing!

Pato was also an amazing employee that made our trip memorable with amazing photo sessions throughout the week. The photos are available for purchase at the end of the trip, although a bit expensive ($17 USD per photo). We would have loved to purchase some photos from Pato as they were great quality/memories but they were a little out of budget.

We overall felt really welcomed and safe in this resort. There was always something to do and the staff was very kind!

Just got back from 1 week at the Riu Santa Fe. We went with 2 teenagers (13 yrs old) and 2 moms. Little girls trip, booked this hotel for the watersides... All I can say, if you want peace and quite you wont get it here, yes it was spring break but parties in rooms till 4am till security broke them up. We stayed in Villa 1, suppose to be mainly families. I barely slept all week. I guess it's what you are looking for... so many college kids with no respect to their surroundings... ie. Families with young children.

I will say the food is amazing, not so much the a la carte... the buffet had lots of variety... the pools were packed full of people specially the ones by the beach, there was NO space at these pools, the photo I posted is half of what it usually was.
The beach was very annoying with people selling stuff, there was NO one monitoring the secure area where the sellers are not allowed to come. Every 2 min someone was asking me to buy something.

My daughter got an eye opener with the college kids and inappropriate bandana wording that they bought on the beach. I am fully aware this is out of the resorts control, just not what I expected.

The rooms were nice but you can hear everything that's happening in the hallway. 7am cleaners started and you can hear their carts like if they were in your room. Every time someone open and closed doors it echoed everywhere.

The service from the staff was amazing other than to never be able to get hold of the front desk, I needed extra pillows and after numerous tries, they took 2 hours to get them to me. Woke me up at 1215am to deliver. My friend asked for water a few times and they were never delivered,

I've traveled alot working for an airline, stayed at many many resorts in Mexico, I will never go back here. I need a vacation from my vacation, maybe it's different when it's not spring break but they are known for their parties they throw. (Seen that after I booked it) which to mention was $9000 -total for 7 nights, which is the most I've every spent on a all inclusive vacation.

I did talk to the front desk to move rooms, and they said my loud neighbor was leaving the next day.. So we stayed. They said they would send security over... regularly.
Which I believe they did, heard them around 230am breaking up a party.

Anyways, if you want to party all day, and listen to college kids day and night.. this is the place to be, they do have crazy parties!

Ms. Martinez at the pool bar... near the buffet was lovely. Always smiling and happy to make us drinks! Thank you! Evening shows were good as well.

The food was very good, customer service was good. Would recommend for older kids or a couples retreat. We brought our 1 year old and it was fine but a little loud.

What a beautiful place and above all the service they provide 🥳

Very nice hotel, for parties it is wonderful, very nice view and customer service, what
The only thing I would comment on is that it doesn't have an elevator in case you have to go up and down stairs, and something I would fail them on is the food 🥲 sad experience, NOTHING NOTHING has flavor, like they use low quality ingredients or the cheapest ones and have no flavor, the cream, the cheese, their sauces, not even the theme restaurants have a good flavor, the snacks in the early morning are terrible 🥹I remember and I want to cry that my stay seemed eternal for me to go out to eat something delicious, ahhh I missed more variety of national beer please 🥺

Just want to say for the great price you pay I don’t think you can find anything to beat this place! The pool view is probably the best and you have 10+ different pools to choose from. 10+ restaurants, nightclubs, beach clubs and 10+ bars it’s just amazing at how much is included with the price. I will definitely stay here again and highly recommend this place. I will start staying at Riu hotels because they really offer more options than you can even experience. I left the resort a few times but really you don’t even need to it’s better just staying at the resort the entire trip especially since it’s right on the beach and everything is free with the hotel price. Also very tentative staff they were all so friendly and professional. Not one complaint. Great jobs Riu!

Title: Animal lovers AVOID! Noisy, poor food, and mediocre service.

Me and my friend booked a week long trip here for a relaxing vacation, but this resort was anything but relaxing. The check-in process was rushed, and there was almost no guidance on how to find your room or help getting your luggage there. This resort is very large, and our room was the furthest building from the entrance. Though I don’t mind the walking, I think a resort this big would really benefit from some sort of trolly or transport service (especially for those arriving/departing with luggage).

I had requested a quiet room, but the Riu Parties were very loud and could be heard at most places in the resort. Even though the parties end at 11pm, there were many noisy drunk guests running around and screaming until early hours of the morning. The sound definitely carries. Plenty of sleepless nights.

The public facilities were very clean and the cleaning staff were lovely, but the food was not good. Almost all the restaurants are buffet style and the food was often cold, bland or under/overcooked. There were two menu restaurants, but the food there was nothing amazing either… though I did prefer them over the buffets.

The the large pool in the middle is definitely quieter than the other party pools, but I did not enjoy being by this pool due to the sick and injured cats roaming around. It was truly heartbreaking to see. These cats are incredibly neglected and begging for food and water. Some had physical deformities and others were so sick they were going blind. I did end up feeding some of these strays, but I was in tears watching these poor helpless animals. I tried looking for shelters in the areas that might be able to help, but they are all full. I recognize that stray animals are common in these areas, but I have stayed at other resorts in Mexico that make an effort to care for the strays. The last resort I stayed at had an entire area with cat houses, and daily food and water. I felt much better staying somewhere where the animals were cared for… I really hope that a resort making so much money makes a more active effort to care for these animals… This was heavy on my mind & heart my entire trip at this resort.

Our room was for the most part clean, but I did notice black mold on the tiles in the shower. We also had a few maintenance issues such as poor water pressure and a 2-inch gap at the bottom of our sliding glass door. This caused a lot of bugs to get in our room, and we often woke up with bug bites.

The entertainment was pretty average… and I feel that many of the shows started too late at night. The musical acts often starting around 9:00 or 9:30, and the only shows prior to this were catered to kids and blasting children’s music in the only gathering area for the evenings. We tried playing some of the games like bingo and kahoot, but they often had technical difficulties causing them to stop the game half way through (which is a bit disappointing).

Overall I do not recommend.

**Edit** I am editing my review after receiving a response. I feel the treatment of the animals has nothing to do with local laws. As I mentioned before, I have stayed at other resorts where they provide shelter and food/water for the local strays. I believe this is something the hotel or Riu franchise could endorse independently from any government laws. I would also like to note that I reached out to a local Cabo animal shelter/rescue after returning home to report the amount of sick/physical injured cats at the resort and offered to fund some sort of rescue for the cats. They informed me they have tried to sort out a program with the hotel before to try and retrieve some of the cats, but the resort refused to participate. Very upsetting knowing local organizations are trying to help and your resort turns them away. I’m heartbroken that I could not do more for these animals. I hope the resort will reconsider their efforts and willingly participate in local rescue efforts in the future. Please reconsider staying here if you care for animal wellbeing.

We found the location and view to be very good. The food is very ordinary and the a la carte restaurants are buffet style. The worst is the noise, impossible to rest, very very noisy day and night. The rooms are renovated and very clean.

. The workers were playing water polo with us and literally slammed me into the water and were not good sports or very nice. I’m a young girl and wanted to have fun but it was kind of rude

I thought we could have a few fun days of lounging by the pool and beach vibe. A bit of a disappointment. I wish I had known that the spring breakers had already arrived and inundated every inch of the pool bars and lounge areas. We are in our 60's, so it seemed awkward to jump in with that crowd. Rooms were clean and maid service was good. March through May just beware.... Drunken 20 somethings party till dawn then / repeat. Wish they had elevators and there is a lot of walking involved. I wish they had bar runners from the beach like Pueblo B. We will pass for a quieter resort next time. Not really 5 star resort in my opinion.

Our week in Cabo was definitely unforgettable. The best decision we made, apart from Cabo itself, was staying at the Riu. The location of the resort is great; right on the water looking out at the famous rock formation. However, the water is very intense and is not safe for swimming (though you can wade in a little).

The food here is great, the buffets had lots of options and really good service from the staff. The restaurants are first come first serve; some you'll get a table at no problem, others you need to show up at 5:30 to book a spot. The American BBQ House is the best food on the resort and usually has a short line.

The drinks are great, and tipping a dollar for a large drink order will get it made quickly and with double shots. The staff are friendly, most speak English and are willing to entertain our tourist Spanish.

The parties are why we chose the Riu and they did not disappoint. From the music, the foam pool, the hookah VIP area and all the young people who filled the pool with dancing bodies, it was a week I'll never forget.

This resort does a great job of keeping the family and child side of the resort separate from the party. Night life is great, with 24hr sports bar service and a nightclub. The Riu was a fun time, a great experience and a week I won't ever forget.

Nice hotel, the service is good and all-inclusive 24hr.
They have several activities to do during your stay at different times of the day.
The only thing is that as there's no elevator, you have to carry all your stuff to the first floor

We had good memories in this resort. Food wasn't in our favor. We all got upset stomach. But we were pleased by good staff and atmosphere.

Delighted everything super delicious
