Very good food and super cool atmosphere
We stayed at IBEROSTAR (literally next door) last year, I would Highly, HIGHLY recommend you go there instead of this place.
This is the "pool view" that we paid extra to get - not to mention we had to sleep in a different room the first night because they didn't have our room selection available...
Paid $130 for a dinner date on the beach for 6:30. Waiter came at 7:30 and said noone told him we were coming. The whole thing was set up on the BEACH VOLLEYBALL COURT, instead of 6-10 feet over under one of the wooden structures they have there.
Every restaurant you wanted to get reservations for had to be reserved at 7am with a line of 30 people to go to a restaurant that does not have HALF THE MENU. You order something and they bring you something else because "they are out of that tonight" (happened every night)
You have been warned :)
Had a great time, the rooms were nice, the staff was very friendly, the pool activities were so much fun, Chocolate was so funny, taught me to dance and play dominions, the theater had great shows dancers took their time to dance with us after at the disco. The food was delicious, would definitely go back again.
The room needed to be completely renovated and the air conditioning didn't work properly. Food offer and quality is not 5 stars. Beach leaves something to be desired, contaminated with algae. Sunbeds broken, very noisy on the beach and the complex due to the presence of at least 95% Americans/Canadians. Loud music until late at night! Not recommended for those looking for peace and relaxation!!
Good service and food, very nice rest areas, and lots of training
This resort is extremely rundown, dirty and appalling. The room my family and I were in was filthy, broken and had a foul odor that could only be compared to sewage backup. The lights in the hallway of the section we stayed in were also malfunctioning. When we went to dinner, we had to use our cellphone flashlight to light our way.
My family and I checked out early after one night. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend this resort if they paid me.
Stayed for a week in early March. Red flag on the beach for most of the week so couldn'tgo in the water. Lots of trash on the beach to the left and right of the resort. Ended up walking 30 minutes to a much nicer strech of beach with clear and calm turquoise water with no trash. If you want to swim, do yourself a favor and choose a resort further east along the beach past the "market". Found a live cockroach in the bathroom. They did spray after we complained and didn't see any after that. The soap, shower gel and shampoo are very low quality. Decent variety of food at the buffet. Good burgers and fries at the snack bar. Booking an a la carte restaurant was a pain because you have to line up at 8 a.m. on the day you want to make reservations. Not enough umbrellas for shade at the pool and the beach. All covered areas by the pool were always taken because they don't enforce their rules against "reserving" lounge chairs. Wouldn't recommend this resort at all.
I WENT IN 2022 AND I CAME BACK NOW 2024, IT TOOK A TURN FROM HEAVEN TO EARTH, EXQUISITE FOOD, EXPLAINED SERVICE, GREAT VARIETY, I LOVED IT
Easy check in nice staff
I had a rough start to my vacation. The 1st room had a really bad leak from the central air conditioning vent. I ask the check in agent , due to the circumstances can you switch me to a similar room? His response was there are no rooms available. My politeness turned to anger. Eventually the maintenance supervisor came to the room and verified my concerns. Then miraculously they had anther room available. They upgraded my room, but l just did not appreciate arguing about a room the first 30mins on their premises. I gave the room a 2 stars because they were out dated. Also, it’s felt like I was going to fall through the bathroom tub when taking a shower. The only reason I gave this resort 3 stars for customer service , besides the dad experience with the checkin clerk. The Dominican employees were extra nice and super attentive.
Went there for valentines evening meal and entertainment.
Food and Service was excellent the waiter/waitress made sure we were all taken care of and we were a large group of 34 persons. Everyone told me they enjoyed the meal and service so I’m basically writing this review based on that! The evening entertainment was very entertaining and we had a good time.

The seller at the shop "ivette gift" in the marien all inclusive added an additionnal 0 at the end of the price of a pack of cigarette ended up costing me 116$ US and only noticed when I got back home. I wasn't able to get my money back.

The Dominican is beautiful. Most of the dining wait staff was great, but other than that, I felt like I was bothering them for the simplist things.
Pretty run down
7 day trip to Puerto Plata Hotel Marien from February 9 to 16, 2024. In general it was good however a lot of cats wander around the buffet room in the a la carte restaurants, so if you don't like cats this is to be avoided. The food is passable because there is a lot of choice at the buffet. The rooms are OK but the maids have rather poor service, sheets not changed in 7 days, fridge not always stocked because there must be water, liquor and beer every day. The beach and the sea are covered with algae and entering the sea, the bottom of the water contains a lot of gravel. If you walk on the beach, a lot of trash litters the edges of the shore. Many Dominican (nes) offer on the beach massage service, hair braiding, and taxi. I do not recommend it because it is very expensive and risks getting you robbed. If you need a taxi, go to the hotel reception, it's safer. Even though it is prohibited in hotel regulations, many people go out early in the morning to reserve chairs either at the pool or at the beach by leaving their beach towels there. In general I give 3 out of 10, because the Dominican Republic is not as good as it was 10 years ago
This place is disgusting my bathroom had blood stains and the shower had cracks everywhere! There was a rude lady she cursed at my sisters in Spanish and was being rude. Beds had stains on them it was gross. The food tasted blain and the dishes still was dirty. 700 dollars for each person is not worth it don’t come here.
Superb hotel, the rooms, the air is clean. The service is superb. The sea is not very beautiful at the moment, lots of algae on the other hand the swimming pool is really fun, large and well made. The only negative point is that vacationers can leave their towels lying around all day long, so there are rarely chairs available. The food is super good.
