Brisas del Caribe Vacations

Varadero, Cuba

A long time favourite of Canadians, Brisas del Caribe is set along a stunning stretch of white sand beach in fabulous Varadero. Included are a great kids' program, 24-hour lobby bar and 24-hour snack bar. The rooms in the south section of the hotel are great for families, with room for two adults and two kids. Brisas del Caribe is an excellent value beach-front hotel.

Location: Beachfront, 30 minutes from Juan Gualberto Gomez International Airport, 10 minutes to downtown Varadero.

Our Opnion

A decent resort situated within the Varadero strip. The rooms need a bit of maintenance and upgrading however, they are cleaned and stocked daily. The food is nothing to rave about, but the resort offers plenty of choices. The resort is notable for having exceptional staff. If you have any concerns or needs, a resort team member will always be nearby to help accommodate your requests. Really great beach location but be advised that bad weather conditions often lead to beach closures. Plenty of amenities available, such as a gym facility. This is an OK resort in Varadero however, for the price you pay, it might be wise to go elsewhere.

Please note that hotel standards in Cuba tend to be lower than in other Sun Destinations. Unless travelers are familiar with the resort or Cuban hotels, we typically recommend that travelers book a minimum 4 star resort when traveling to Cuba.

A little about vacation.
Vacationed with my wife at the end of January 2024.
For all the dissatisfied and haters, I would like to say:
Yes, the hotel has some problems, quite a few of them. But Cuba is not Türkiye, not Egypt, there will not be a similar service a priori.
Plus, the hotel is a budget four in a POOR country. There are constant problems with supplies not only to this hotel, but also to others. Therefore, there is often no food, drinks, some utensils, etc. All hotels here belong to the state. Therefore, there are quite a few problems with eating occasionally (Although you won’t remain hungry, whatever you can find to eat). And Cubans don’t worry about service. But here’s the question: what attitude do you have towards rest?
There is a beautiful ocean, nature, bright and smiling people.
If you are squeamish and want high cuisine and excellent service, Cuba is not your option.

Short life hacks for you:

- Take thermoses/thermal mugs with you - it helps a lot.
- Take sunscreen, a lot and it will help. You will get burned even if you are resistant to the Sun, and in places where you didn’t even think that you could get burned there.
- exchange money for pesos, pay in pesos, leave tea in pesos - it’s more profitable, you can save money.
- Bargain where you can, you can drop the price

Nice beach, rooms are spacey and clean, but all services are nightmare, food is terrible if you can find a plate, fork and knife, service stuff was rude. Definitely not recommended don't waste your holiday and money. Stay some casa particular.

Did I mention food was disgusting 🤢

March 2024
Excellent hotel, the room was cleaned every day, there was enough food (meat - chicken, pork, beef, eggs, cheese, a lot of greens, excellent ice cream, different types of rice, pineapples, papaya, guava, bananas) in general you will not go hungry. The hotel area is gorgeous, there is a gym, swimming pools, beautiful nature, palm trees, a huge number of free sun loungers, the ocean is simply gorgeous and this white sand is amazing. Honestly, I didn’t have high hopes for Cuba, but it was amazing. Everyone at the hotel is trying their best, very friendly, every evening the small show programs are very interesting and not annoying.
The only negative is that we are Russian tourists, who can only shit and litter the hotel and beach area with our plastic glasses and bottles after drinking alcohol. There are about 10 trash cans all over the territory and on the beach. I would like to say that when you’ve already gotten drunk, it’s disgusting to look at and listen to, behave with dignity and clean up after yourself, instead of writing stupid reviews about how terrible everything is. Ashamed !
Prosperity to the hotel and all the best! Keep it up! I’ll be happy to come back to you again ❤️

If you are flying to Cuba for the bright sun, sandy beach, fruits and the Atlantic Ocean, then this is the hotel for you! If you need super service, quality drinks at the bar, food 24/7, then this is not the place for you. Decide in advance what you need and don’t spoil your vacation.

The hotel met our expectations and requirements. Lived from 03/30/24 to 04/07/24. The room in the bungalow is excellent: spacious double beds, large room, bathroom and loggia overlooking palm trees and the pool. The air conditioning worked, there was always hot and cold water. Towels were changed daily. They left tips and small gifts for the maids, and sometimes they made beautiful figures out of towels for us.
Upon check-in, they gave us 2 pieces of food and 2 bottles of shampoo/shower gel. We took all the soap and soap accessories with us, which is what we advise you to do if you don’t want to buy shampoo from the mass market at the hotel for 8 dollars/euro.
About the living creatures in the room: we sometimes had stray mosquitoes. It all depends on how carefully you close the doors and windows; after all, these are subtropics.
They left a 1.5 liter bottle of water in the room for two days, then they stopped. As they said at the reception, there is no bottled water in the hotel. But this is not a problem: you can take a bottle to the bar and ask for water to be poured there, or you can buy such water in the hotel store for 8 dollars/euro. Decide for yourself).
The hotel area is large, green and well-groomed. There are many birds that chirp happily and lizards. There is a pond with turtles and fish. There are also swimming pools that are cleaned every day. But we only swam in the ocean.
Food. Buffet system. Everything is edible. We never got poisoned. I think this is the most important thing, given the hot climate. I'm a vegetarian. There was always something to choose from to eat. Lots of fresh vegetables: greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, shredded cabbage, beets, carrots. Side dishes include rice, potatoes, local root vegetables, fried bananas. There is always delicious fruit! Simply paradise! They gave us pineapple, papaya, guava, and watermelon. My husband is an omnivore. There was a lot of meat to choose from, and fish was also provided. But he says they don’t know how to cook meat. In any case, you won't remain hungry. For breakfast, a delicious cocktail/smoothie made from fresh fruit is prepared right in front of you; fry an omelet with various additives and fried eggs. Sometimes they prepared sweet meringue. For dinner they served delicious ice cream. About drinks: (I won’t say anything about alcohol, because I don’t drink) they give you yuppie or water; You can make tea for breakfast. In addition, the bar upstairs makes delicious coffee, I really liked the cappuccino; They will also make you tea. You can drink all this while enjoying the view from the terrace of palm trees and the ocean.
The staff tries very hard to make your stay better, but not everyone appreciates this. When you go on excursions, look out the bus windows at the shacks where the locals live, and then your level of requests will decrease.
Beach: magical! First line. Light, clean and soft sand and blue, blue and turquoise ocean! This is what you need to come here for. The first days of our vacation the ocean was calm, the water was clear, there were almost no waves. A few days later it rained, it was windy, there were waves, but not strong ones (there was a yellow flag on the beach), you can go in and out. Swimming is very comfortable, the water temperature allows you to swim until you get tired.
While you are swimming, seagulls and pelicans fly above you. Nature is very beautiful.
Among the benefits of civilization on the beach there are sun loungers, umbrellas made of palm branches and a bar. You can also buy a drinking coconut on the beach, which will then be chopped up for you so you can eat the pulp.
I advise you to take beach towels from home, as there are not enough of them at the hotel.
In general, take everything you need with you; don’t count on being able to buy anything in Cuba.
Also bring gifts with you. We took candies, chocolates, bars, hairpins, pens, and children's stationery (paints, markers, crayons). People like to receive gifts). When we left, we left medicine in the room.

Treat everything positively, don’t notice minor shortcomings, be happy, because your vacation is quickly ending.

To be honest, I have never seen anything like this before. Let's start with the only plus and this is the ocean. It is divine, warm and inviting. That's where the positives end. Now the cons. 1.Number. Old and dead. The shower is a separate matter, the American-style watering can splashes in all directions, making washing extremely problematic. We were lucky; we didn’t have any mosquitoes or cockroaches, as we lived in the southern building on the second floor. 2. Dining room. I've never seen anything like this before. There are not enough dishes and cutlery, so we had to carry our own camping kit. The food is specific, you won’t leave hungry, but you won’t want more. The drinks are terrible, I have developed an allergy that will take a long time to treat. The turns are not efficient, the staff are running around, creating the appearance of work. Several times I even had to swear, as they brought the devices first to the chosen ones, and then, if they remembered, you would get it too. They understand Russian swearing very well. 3. Bars. There is no normal drinking. Rum and everything else is tin, wine and champagne only on paper, in fact it is sold under the counter at a ridiculous price. 4. Swimming pools. Don't even think about swimming there. They are not cleaned or kept clean. There is damaged material at the bottom, the level does not match the marks. 5. Staff. Only smiles, in other matters they are not competent. They asked to solve the problem with the watering can, but the plumber never came, although they constantly reminded us. Beach towels go to a select few.
Bottom line. I liked the ocean and the excursions. We'll go back there, definitely not. It's up to you to decide. I forgot to add, we rested for 9 days, end of March beginning of April 2024.

There is nothing of the worst hotels I have visited. I understand the situation in Cuba, I lived there for 6 months and during the pandemic. What is strange is that in Old Havana on the days we were on vacation there were restaurants and food in many places.

In this hotel they offer several a la carte restaurants but it is always the same food, there are no options, it is only chicken, beef and pork. The rooms were super humid, everything was wet, in the bar only rum and beer. Personally, I recommend not spending your money on this hotel, for me it is a 2 star.

A beautiful experience.

A very nice hotel. The service is friendly.

I was at the hotel in February 2024.
I highly recommend visiting this place.
In addition to the usual for “fours” in Cuba, half-destroyed rooms, gray towels, problems with soap and shampoos, lack of linen change for 12 nights, monotonous food, etc., in this hotel there are regular shortages of sugar and cream butter, then with coffee.
A separate issue is alcohol. By definition, there are no cocktails other than a mojito in the morning until the mint runs out. Red, white and sparkling wine appear in bars irregularly and only one or two bottles per day. The rum offered is white, low-grade, with a distinct fusel flavor.
There was decent rum (from three years old) only three times in my twelve nights, and each time for only one day.
The administration and staff openly steal good alcohol, and the hotel security and staff almost openly offer to buy it from them for $10 per bottle of 0.7 liter Habana Club 5-7 years old, not only on the beach and on the hotel grounds, but also in bars in the evenings.

I have stayed in this place 3 times, once 15 years ago, once 6 years ago and once 3 years ago.
Unfortunately this place has been allowed to be lost.
The beach is spectacular as always, there is no such thing as Varadero (humble opinion after visiting more than 9 beaches in the Caribbean).
Some employees were somewhat arrogant and disrespectful towards the guests, that did bother me from the moment I arrived and it took them a long time to give us the room and let us in.
The structure, distribution of areas and variety of them is very good, many amenities (courts, games center, gym, spa, themed restaurants, jacuzzi, water activities) however due to lack of maintenance the facilities are terrible.
The main dining room/buffet closed for maintenance and they were serving food in another area where the prefabrication was terrible and among the Cubans (customers/guests) they were stealing and creating disorder.

It is with open bar service. The beach is fantastic

As I understood, the hotels belong to the government, they have several alliances with several highly developed countries, it should not be in the conditions in which it is.

Very poor hygiene, no bread for breakfast, one coffee machine in the whole hotel and it doesn't work. The staff is very rude

The staff is extremely rude
Food is poisoned. People get sick coz of the food.
Service is very poor and keep begging for tips to their job.
Staff does not know English or pretends not to know and laughs if you try to talk to them
Rooms has a 🐜 crawling every where also full of mosquitoes 🦟 and cockroaches

Amazing beach, amazing atmosphere, top notch service will be visiting again in the near future

This place was recommended by a friend and I’m happy we decided to go to Brisas Del Caribe.
We weren’t expecting much and we were more than happy with our experience. We brought some spices and condiments as we knew there wasn’t as much offered as we are used to in Canada. The beaches are beautiful and scenery amazing.
Maikel the resort rep has incredible customer service and went out of his way to make our stay comfortable. Even drove around looking for things we wanted.
The only things we weren’t 100% happy with was how late they play the music or shows and no diet pop, which is understandable considering but again Maikel looked everywhere for some diet drinks as Sherry is diabetic.
It wasn’t that bad but a few nights the girls wanted to go to sleep but couldn’t because of how loud the music was.
We booked a tour to Havana and wished we had a different driver. He seemed more interested in flirting with the local women than spend time showing us or explaining more about the local history. He would just tell us to go look when we’d get to a destination.
Walk in all we would definitely go back and if you’re considering Dominican Republic, choose Cuba. A way better experience.

Positive points: the location! The view of the sea is magnificent and the beach is quite clean.
The maintenance and service staff at the restaurant are really very nice. They make do with what they have... but are not ill willed.

Negative points :
- the hotel is decrepit, it is not maintained and it is very visible: water leak in the corridor, doors that barely close, rusty taps, paint needs redoing...
- unlike the restaurant staff, the shop staff are really rude, they are constantly on their phones.
- it's a Russian pied-à-terre to the point that the songs are Russian, which is not at all what I expected when coming to Cuba.

This hotel must have seen happier days, now I'm afraid it's too late to turn things around.

Staff and location are great as always! Everything else is subpar.

1. No beach towels for 3 days. They didn't have clean blue towels and couldn't explain why or when they'd be available. The employee affected to towels nevertheless remained at his post instead of helping out other services. Optimization of resources is definitely not a strong suit.

2. The food is actually improving compared to the last few years, but you still want to bring your own snacks, sauces and spices.

I'm happy to have changed hotels... I honestly don't understand the reviews they do about this hotel... I've been to 3 and this is the best (we're in CUBA so to speak)
Don't always believe the reviews they are very subjective!!
Our room was clean and fragrant (a rare thing in Cuba) everything was well kept... the sheets were clean and without stains... I felt more at ease here... finally we found the smiling and welcoming staff (especially young guys with a desire to work )the hotel spaces are well kept and the pools clean…
The buffet meets FI standards
Cuba (remember we are in Cuba they don't have everything we have in our country) the buffet is always clean and tidy (without insects or cockroaches circulating)… the Wi-Fi works well and is free!
For the rest I found myself very well.
YOU ARE IN CUBA…DON'T EXPECT GREAT THINGS!

Terrible service, bad rooms, lines to eat, I don't recommend anyone coming, it's a waste of money.
