Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca Vacations

3.8 - 938 Reviews
Holguin, Cuba
The Club Amigo Guardalavaca is a favourite with Canadians and many keep coming back year after year. The ‘Village’, just recently built and more spacious, is the newest feature to the resort’s property. You’re just steps from the beach and from the other two all-inclusive hotels, where you have full access to their bars, restaurants, and activities. Great for families – sort of like three holidays in one!

Location: On Guardalavaca Beach and 60 minutes from the airport.
Our Opnion
Not the nicest of hotels visually but the Club Amigo Guardalavaca makes up for it in service and value. Nice quiet beach area. The great prices on this resort make it the best choice for a 3 star resort in Holguin.
Please note that hotel standards in Cuba tend to be lower than in other Sun Destinations. Unless travelers are familiar with the resort or Cuban hotels, we typically recommend that travelers book a minimum 4 star resort when traveling to Cuba.

Favorite for me, I hadn't set foot in Cuba for around 12 years. I went there for a week to see with my own eyes all the rumors that there was nothing left to eat or drink.
And as expected, no waiting, I'm not picky about it so from my point of view, at the buffet (lunch there's a bit of everything, I prefer to go to the outside dining room near the beach , all with good coffee service, hearty roast ham egg - dinner and supper at the buffet the same things day after day but good - 2 soups - 1 fish and chicken, lamb prepared differently each day, lots of salad and pasta)
A la carte restaurant good)
My room very clean,
very good service, bar - catering and reception
Oh yes, a coffee bar which is very good
BOTTLED WATER - RARE - bought at the convenience store
The beach is easy to walk about 2 km
I'm going back in April, I'll keep you informed of the changes

Everything is very bad, food service, dining room because not a restaurant is a worker's dining room.

A guest turned in my wallet to the bartender and the bartender denied having it. He knew what was in it but said someone else took it from behind the bar. Also they had no rum vodka or gin until day 4 only “whisky” but it was the worst whisky I’ve ever had and it tasted much closer to rubbing alcohol

Excellent service, best place to stay in Cuba. The staff excellent and everything is so clean everywhere. Employee's are always there to assist in anyway thank you Club Amigo Guardalavaca a

I stayed at the hotel from December 25th to January 7th. The facility is old but very well maintained. The staff is friendly. Beach is well maintained and beautiful. Eating is catastrophe. If you have a healthy stomach you can endure 2 weeks of the same buffet with very little variation and poor quality. There are no trips from the hotel unless you pay a taxi for €120 to Holgrin, which is about 44km. As a tourist you have the feeling all day long that the Cubans want to take every euro out of your pocket. Cuba is a beautiful country but politics has turned it into a poorhouse and the people struggle to survive every day and are busy with themselves. The whole thing takes a bit of a toll on the holiday mood.

My 3rd trip here and my last! Lack of alcohol.. lack of food.. no bottle of water.. no juice... the place is 80% closed.. very difficult to find services! The employees are exhausted. To be honest, I'm extremely disappointed with the place.

Situated on Guardalavaca Beach , Club Amigo Atlantico is an older resort that is in need of rejuvenation. Two of its four sections were closed for repairs . The staff is wonderful and hard working. They keep the grounds beautiful and clean. The food very repetitive and not very much meat and fruits.
That being said, the location is amazing. The beach is beautiful with white sand and clear turquoise water. The rooms are basic but comfortable and kept clean. We can't complain for the price we paid. This was our third time at this resort and we will return.

The water taste really bad. Lots of the food, pretty much all drinks mixed with this water taste awful. ( Coffee, Cola, juice, pasta, ice for drinks etc.)
There's no fridge in the room and no bottled water.
I was told that only returning customers qualify for a fridge and water in the room.
You have to buy bottled water at the lobby bar for $5 us.
I know there's a food shortage and we prepared ourselves for this, but running out of softdrinks, Ice, water, and even wine and rhum was unexpected.
There's a few extremly rude front desk workers and management seems to be totally fine with this behavior.
We purchased soft drinks, bottled water and canned beer off the resort. We spend a lot of time on the beautiful beach and had great meals at the restaurant at the resort next door for very little money.
I'm very sorry to tell you, but I will never come back to this resort.
To say it in a real polite way, Club Amigo is a dump that needs to change management to get better.

It was about nine years ago that I spent two weeks at this Club Amigo, along with a group of female friends. We really enjoyed ourselves, the hotel, food, staff members, the beach, etc. It's a really beautiful location and was my second vacation trip to Cuba. As an amateur photographer, I happily took over 900 photos, including of my friends, of course.

But, I am writing this Google Review to give some warnings to anyone who wishes to vacation at this resort. No doubt there have been a number of substantial improvements made over the years, including the opening of the Ashley coffee shop that wasn't open when we were there. But, some points should still apply for your consideration, namely:
(1) Listen carefully and follow what you're told during the Orientation session at the start of your stay. Write notes, ask questions.
(2) Some of the guests on the free Catamaran ride got seasick.
(3) Please do NOT go swimming way out in the ocean at night. It's dangerous. From what I recall, the pools are super chlorinated at night so it's best to just forget about swimming at night.
(4) Bring rain ponchos from Dollarama or umbrellas just in case of tropical rains.
(5) The safe in my room was broken and it took many hours one day of my waiting in my room for the Maintenance man to try to fix it. It wasn't fixable; waste of my time and his time. Instead, I put my documents in the safe in a friend's room.
(6) Because of the open concept on the main floor of the hotel, when it rains, the floors and stairs get very slippery and hazardous. Walk carefully. A woman from Quebec fell down on the stairs the last night I was there and I had to help her out. Staff wasn't readily available but did intercede later.
(7) Do NOT take a taxi at night into Holguin to enjoy the nightlife because tourists are not supposed to be out on the roads in a licenced taxi that late at night according to a police officer who stopped us. Long story. Terrifying. None of the staff at the hotel had warned us about this regulation relating to tourists.
(8) The bathroom floor was elevated in my room about five inches so I had to be careful not to trip when going into/out of the bathroom. One of my friends went flying one day in her room as she was leaving the bathroom.
(9) Don't leave valuables on your rented chaise lounge because it's a public beach. One woman I know went to the DR years back, left her bifocals on her chair and they were stolen so everything was blurry for her for the balance of the trip. She hadn't brought a spare pair of eye glasses. Bringing a spare of sun glasses would be a good idea, too.
(10) Also make sure you bring an alarm clock or alarm on your cell phone because I did not get a promised wake up call from the Reception desk the night before we were to leave early in the morning. If a friend hadn't called me, I might have missed the bus to take me to the airport.
(11) Giving Tips: even the Maintenance staff and groundskeepers, etc. deserve tips but probably don't get them very often. Forgotten about. We weren't supposed to take extra food from the Buffet but I brought heavy plastic food bags from home and put them in my handbag. Then, when the staff wasn't looking, I snuck food into a bag and brought it to various Cubans, including one horse and buggy driver who gave the food to his skinny horse. One of the staff members was delighted when I gave him a nice pen as a tip.
(12) Because we left so early in the morning by bus for the airport, we couldn't get breakfast first. Thinking ahead, I had snuck some pastries into my handbag the night before so that helped.
(13) Before leaving, on checkout, one of my friends had an awful time regarding returning the receipt for the borrowed beach towel. Long story but she didn't have to pay the big penalty charge, mercifully.
(14) Don't brush your teeth there with the tap water. Take Ducorol before going on your trip; that's what I did and I never got sick as before at other hotels.
Despite my warnings, have a great time! We certainly did; it was affordable, too.

Very nice hotel and very friendly staff. Beer always available.
Fulfills all guests' wishes. When the rum runs out, there's whiskey.
We got used to the taste of the water in the restaurant and tolerated it well.
We felt very comfortable.

Bad food. In the buffet. From fruits only papaya. The juice was diluted it only has the color

It is a place to enjoy, but frankly speaking it is not very good.

No internet in our room
And faulty door handle twice

At the end of our stay the PR representative presented us and other return guests with a special dinner at Benny's restaurant. This dinner was unexpected and a wonderful experience especially for my new Cuban inlaws. My disappointment with this restaurant began with my flights continuously being postponed due to the weather, so had the forethought to call the resort because my new family would be arriving before i did, they are Cuban Nationals. The first person that i spoke to was completely rude when i explained that i would be late. He stated that i lost the time at the resort. When i was in the middle of explaining that my family would be there with the itinerary he hung up on me. I called back several times and without a word the phone was hung up again and again, I'm not sure what that was about. I finally reached another person and explained myself to her. She stated that my family could stay, i was very worried that they were about to be put on the street because they were elderly and had traveled a great distance. Unfortunately, when my family arrived they were given poor treatment. My husband was told that the resort would kindly do us a favour and allow them to stay. It was really decent of them since i had paid for this trip over two months in advance. Thank you kindly for the dinner, but I won't be a returning customer. Teach your staff how to treat others like human beings. PR, Racquel, you are a blessing for that resort maybe you can help.
Next time I come, I'll be getting married to Arioldis Diaz Ferrer in 2018!!!!!

Our family corner of paradise in Cuba! The buffet is always very good given the resourcefulness of the Cubans with what they have. The rooms are very comfortable, with air conditioning and beautiful views. The staff are really lovely! And what about the hotel's small private beach with a pirate ship bar, all adjacent to the large and magnificent Guardalavaca beach. The pool bar also wins our hearts every time, that and the little specialty coffee upstairs. There is continuous entertainment for the whole family and the artisan market is a 2-minute walk away. Also, with the small town in front of the hotel, you can visit life in Cuba beyond its hotels. I don't understand why the place isn't rated higher by Sunwing, but in the meantime, we're taking advantage of the very low price. Here the children walk around freely, no worries, no worries. It's easy to navigate and the people are so welcoming. We are on our third family visit and I am still under the spell.

Rooms are old, but clean. Staff is great. Great entertainment. Good food. Multiple Fresh juice selections all the time.

Very bad experience this site. First time visiting this hotel and definitely last. First hotel I see that limits what you are going to eat. It is a horror, without words.

Very good place for the price

Was there from 13 to 20 September 2023..pros:.room was clean but saw some ants in the bathroom , adequate food in the buffet ,beach bar had burgers n grilled cheese sandwiches, choice of beer, rum, team coffee, wines plus soft drinks, pools kept clear, has a la restaurant, double decker tour bus ,street train ride, beach, catamaran Ride included, hard working staff who even after working 12 hour shifts still smiling.,daily night shows,...cons: some ants in the bathroom, small club house near the reception with limited seats and throbbing lights, payment only with credit card, pushy local guests, limited sea food options, far from Holguin airport, some walkaways without lights...

SHAME FOR CUBA!!!!!!!!
My son stayed at this hotel for almost a month without problems.
He had an argument with security personnel and was warned by public relations. However, they forced him to leave the establishment despite having renewed the stay that day for another week, for which they charged him US$350, which was never returned, and his cell phone also disappeared.
I am going to report them to the Cuban embassy in Buenos Aires for ABUSE OF AUTHORITY, SCAM AND THEFT.
