Very bad experience I do not recommend Kawama

I am a 7 time repeat customer. I find the staff are excellent and many I now take gifts for. Take a PowerBar with two prongs or the ground removed. Lighting is with lamps the switch is in the cord. Take a roll of toilet paper for off resort excursions. I put mine 8n a crown royal bag. A led flashlight fits in the middle of the roll and there is room for some lunch. There is always ample food and a great selection even when American sanctions have been effective. As the total cost is reasonable repeaters view the meals as a guaranteed meal Repeaters take advantage of meals at a very large number of resteraunts in Varadero. Varadero is walking distance. The hop on hop off bus is even closer. Rides in a 1950 car are reasonable and you might choose to have a driver all day.

This hotel allots 1L of water per room regardless of the length of your stay. My boyfriend and I had to ration our drinking water for the week that we stayed at this resort despite spending hours in the hot sun. The food is very poor quality and there are birds flying around the restaurants. The beds are uncomfortable, our shower was broken and we didn’t have any hot water. The reception are unkind, unresponsive, and could care less about the quality of your stay. I urge you to choose another resort.

The beach: beautiful! That is all.

Easily the worst place I have ever stayed or envisioned staying. My sons likened their accommodations to being worse than section 8 housing. The service was sporadically helpful with some kind and attentive employees intermingled with an overwhelming amount of apathetic and rude employees. The food was literal garbage and they ran out of tea and wine every other day. We tipped, praised and brought many presents. Quite frankly this place just 'sucks'. Go anywhere else!

Where or what to start with. Let’s go with the check-in.
Firstly, I'm in the Hotel industry and I know it's important to smile and say welcome to guests. Here, no manners, no smile, no interest and above all no welcome! You ask a question and they don't answer you immediately, they prefer to talk among themselves before looking at you and then maybe giving an answer. Amazing! Most of the time they don't know anything.
Continuous lack of toilet paper in the bathrooms at reception. No seat cover in women's bathroom at reception!
They gave us a room with windows and doors with shutters, that 1: impossible to open them and 2: to see outside. In addition, the air conditioning did not work. In the bed: ONLY a sheet! But what is this??? NOT ACCEPTABLE!
Next morning, the offer us another room, and we accepted. (of course after insisting to change). However, the hair dryer does not work. The door creaks horribly to go onto the balcony. No glass to drink bottled water. One UNWRAPPED mini soap in basket NOT REALLY HYGIENIC!!! And with one mini bottle of don't know what for 1 week for 2 people. The towel bars are very rusty. The bathtub definitely needs to be changed. The ceramic is stained. The windows are extremely dirty. Dust accumulates in large quantities under the curtains. The chairs on the balcony are not adequate because the “bamboo” seats lack slats, therefore impossible to seat. There are only 2 hangers in the wardrobe. Not enough lights, only 2 lamps and if we want to plug in our cell phone, there is only one left!
Restaurant buffet, no choice, always the same thing, no pasta, only 'parts" (?) of chicken and pork and no soft drink in the morning and sometimes no cola at all!!! The plates are always soaked and the utensils dirty. The plastic placemats are wiped and not cleaned with napkins so thin and small that we see the marks. The glasses are not clean. The coffee is T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E.
The snack bar open 24 hours: they only have plain omelets and mini sandwiches with ham (a mini slice) and cheese (already chewed) which are not edible! Measures approximately 3cm x 5cm, what a joke.
All hotels mention that wifi is $ but in reality it is free or included everywhere, restaurant, swimming pool, lobby, but not at Club Kawama. We really have to pay and operate only at the reception!
Do drinks include? Only Cuban beers, soft drinks (when available) with rum and no pina colada! But in other hotels, yes. Everything is available.
The only positive point: the swimming pool. Cold but well maintained.
For the price we paid, we are very dissatisfied with this hotel.

Tremendous hotel with special features, high quality in the services, the workers are great. The bars have a wide variety of drinks. Yariatna is spectacular, as is the Director, always attentive to the needs of his guests. The treatment is the best. The restaurant with a variety of food for all tastes. I recommend if you want a hotel where there is a lot of love

Congratulations, Club Kawama, excellent service, very good food, everything very clean. I recommend it

Did not get the upgraded rooms as booked (they had a mold in them) so are many other people.
We were upgraded after "fight"
note that women/employees at the lobby desk were ignorant to tourists they said one thing and did another...
on some days they did not have any rum, pina colada or eggs, no blow dryer, beach towels, and wi fi only at the lobby for $5/3hrs, menu in restaurants were repetitious. Many other workers were pleasant esp gardeners.
to be serviced at dining room took a while to wait for ex for spoons, etc.
Beach was nice, in pool cold water
buildings were close to each other so not much walk needed to get to them

Please don’t visit Hotel - via Sunwing never fix . Not worth it even for $1
Don’t come here even it’s free ….

Worst than motel room

We have visited club Kawama in the past (3 other times) and this time was by far the WORST.
Check in was ok. Smooth as it could be. We were brought to our 1st room. Safe was not there. We asked for a second room. 2nd room. Safe was broken. We asked for another room. 3rd room it was the best we were going to get. Safe worked which was a bonus.
That night the bugs started coming in. There were holes everywhere which we didn’t see in the daytime. Needless to say - we got bite several times throughout our sleeps - they weren’t giving us anymore rooms we were advised.
The first few nights there were no sheets on the bed. Just the bedspread. Once we got sheets it was better. The shower ceiling was falling down. There was a panel on the wall that opened to the space between the rooms. Bugs galore kept coming in from there. The hinge was broke. It wouldn’t close. Overall the room sucked
The bars - the canal bar was good when it was open. It was supposed to be opened from 9:30 am to 11pm but Kawama decided to have meetings in there which lasted till dinner most days so that bar was off limits. The pool bar - if you liked beer. Good. If not. Too bad for you. The lobby bar - if you liked rum and lime juice - good for you. If not too bad for you. Overall the BARS SUCKED for choice of drinks. Not one of the bars had COLA.
The coffee shack - good - when they had coffee.
Food - as expected. Except we had beef upon beef upon beef. We had eggs. Lots of eggs. A few days they ran out of eggs and bread. So I guess you could have had the shredded cabbage they offered. Food was not the greatest.
Beach - beach was the best. Except for the people who left their towels on the loungers daily (and all night) to keep “their” spot. Annoying as hell !!
Customer service - what service ? Non existent.
Would I recommend - NOPE
If I could give this no stars I would.

Great value for cost! Enjoyed my Spanish Colonial room with balcony. All staff is friendly & helpful. Restaurant was a real treat as was the pool, beach, catamaran ride & entertainment!

Super fabulous, very good service, the hotel and the rooms were very clean, the pool was spectacular, I loved the hotel

Basically a beautiful place for a vacation.

The location is great. The beach is incredibly beautiful. We spent a lot of time there.

Unfortunately, the rooms are a bit older (room numbers in the 30s). The mattresses are very comfortable. Unfortunately we didn't have sheets, just polyester blankets. Even after asking several times, we didn't receive beach towels because there didn't seem to be enough of them. The air conditioning could not be changed or made warmer. That's why we left this off.
The maids did their best.
Unfortunately we had a lot of Russians in the hotel in the first week after Christmas. After that, locals came and things got a little quieter.

Everyone made a great effort at the buffet. But there was almost always rice and side dishes. Outside you can also get pasta or pizza at a good price. In the hotel itself you can go to an a la card restaurant, but we were not informed of this.

Basically we would go to Cuba again, but not to this hotel, even if the stay was good.

Kawama is a fun family resort with GREAT Programming. But the rooms are small so if you have a family bigger than three, I would not recommend.
From that aside, the resort is on a beautiful area of the beach with lots of space . The staff are nice but if you go, I recommend getting a superior room. If not, you’re gonna have a hike to get to the kiddy and programming of the hotel.

Everything is great. We can't spoil the mood. We waited a week for towels) the toilet was never done. The rest is great.

If you have experience in European *** hotels, it will feel like an all-inclusive hostel by a beautiful beach. They accommodated us in the back old part, where no one had cleaned for a long time and probably hadn't even been there. Part of our group moved elsewhere, we stayed, because at least we had a clean sheet (we tried washing blood stains, etc.). The impression of the rooms was really terrible, but the saddest part is that for minimal costs it could be a really beautiful room, it would be enough to clean, repaint, fix the biggest fu*k ups. After all, this applies to the entire resort, an investor would make it a dream place for minimal costs.
The rooms closer to the reception, where part of our group moved, were said to be better, but also no luxury. On the other hand, they picked a couple's room and took some of their money and other things. The next day they gave us clean mats instead of the original two dirty towel pads on the floor that were there when we arrived. The way to the more distant parts of the hotel is like passing through an untidy construction site.

As for the food, the breakfasts were decent with fresh fruit, eggs and good pastries. But most things did not appeal to me, especially the appearance. All about quantity and not quality. The service is trying. For dinner, a small selection and again an unattractive appearance. They fry the meat in front of you, but some gentleman commented on the beef with the words "non bueno", so I only had it one day and it was actually non bueno, the chicken was ok. The worst is probably the clientele that comes here. Fortunately, we only spent two nights here. Seeing people of an unnamed nationality loading up meat for five people, so that they rake in a batch for the people behind them, is really a blast. In the same way, when a 300 kg shirtless person ends up at dinner, the remaining taste will pass you by. Watch out for pebbles in the rice. If I were to compare it with 5* in Egypt for 15k per week, then Egypt clearly leads in terms of food. Even the drinks here were terrible, you could only drink pure rum.

There is a swimming pool and some animation programs that the youngsters try. Internet for 5 euros. Also some climbing frames for children. I can't judge any of this.

Fair beach, longer shallows and quite a lot of waves. Not only in front of the hotel but along the entire length quite occasional garbage and some algae. We didn't see anyone cleaning.

Drinks are put in dirty cups at the bar and in glasses. Mojito gross. For a drink, we preferred to go to the jugo bar towards the center and to the bar on the beach, where a luxury drink cost around 30 CZK. We also had lunch elsewhere.

The worst experience in Cuba so far, it broke us upon arrival, dirt and disgust, unattractive things in the restaurant, but there was simply no other accommodation, so we endured it and hopefully we will laugh about it in time. I can't imagine what those people who were satisfied with the food and the level must be living in.

If only part of the hotel is functional and of sufficient quality, they should not accommodate people in the rest...

I have been 12 times to Cuba. This is by far the worst hotel. It's literally falling apart. Don't go. I came here with my daughter's, and we only stayed 1 night. Next day we paid extra and moved to another Hotel. Save yourself, don't come here

Hotel Kawama is well located, incredible beach, the staff will make sure you have an unforgettable experience, thanks to Dariena for welcoming me at the reception, a big thank you to Yonairis and Marian, who do an incredible job so that everything went wonderfully, the staff were smiling and very warm, thank you Aylen for keeping my room in order, to the musicians, dancers, it was a very nice experience 🔆

Probably the worst hotel in Cuba stayed there for two weeks .with my kids awfull xperience ,food terrible.rooms old moldy worn out bedding towels just terrible.awfull.really a flea bag.in most country's would be closed down in Cuba, still open and the staff want tips..Don't go there ,will ruin your vacation you will waste your hard earned money..

I have been going to this hotel for over 7 years (around 25 times) and I have never been disappointed. The staff IS LIKE A BIG FAMILY... I recommend it...
