Awesome resort. Beach not the best with all the sargasum washing up, but they tried to remove it occasionally. Overall, it was a great stay!!
This is our 4th time at this resort and we love it! I will say that the entertainment team has gone a little downhill but there are still some activities available.
The Japanese restaurant has been our absolute favorite!! Chef Neri and Gamaleli have truly made our experience special!! Gamaleli is very accommodating and always ensures our needs our met! Chef Neri is a true artist! He’s been making special dishes for us over the last few years! Looks at his sushi creations!!
Last but not least Shelia at coco cafe is a true joy! Her and Xochie always greet us with a welcoming smile and are happy to help, always!! I can’t say they same about the night time crew at coco cafe.
WARNING:LONG BUT USEFUL:
I recently dined at Himitsu Restaurant with a group of 10, hoping for a delightful evening at Dreams Resort and Spa. The restaurant has raving reviews and is always booked. Unfortunately, our experience was marred by the restaurant's policy on large parties and questionable business practices. Upon arrival, we were informed that they don't accept parties larger than 6. Despite suggesting splitting our group, we were told it would be a 30-minute wait for a buzzer and then an additional hour for seating, which we reluctantly accepted. While waiting for the buzzer, we observed a party of 14 guests being seated, which contradicted what was allegedly the restaurant's policy.Later, when returning for the buzzer, the hostess implied immediate seating could be arranged if we purchased a bottle of wine from the restaurant. Feeling pressured and not wanting to disrupt the evening for my guests, I reluctantly agreed, though I found this approach quite unscrupulous.Upon expressing my concerns during checkout the next day, the concierge seemed surprised and assured me that this is not their standard practice. However, they were unable to refund the cost of the bottle of wine. While the hotel overall offers great amenities and excellent customer service in other areas, this experience significantly detracted from our overall enjoyment. Given the substantial expense of staying here, one expects a seamless and positive experience throughout their trip.
This resort was terrible. I only stayed here because I was attending a wedding.
The good:
- The spa was pretty nice and you can get a good deal. However, they guide you and time you when doing hydrotherapy, sauna etc. I’m not used to that at spas, usually you pay and enjoy the facilities at leisure. I got an 80 minute massage that was amazing but the 50 minute facial was just okay.
-There are a lot of day activities to choose from. We loved the bike tour we did with Jose to puerto morales.
- The wedding I attended was great and the food at the wedding was actually decent compared to the food at the resort. They staff was also very efficient and had great service at the wedding.
The bad:
- From when we arrived I just knew this wasn’t like other 5 star resorts I’ve been to. I’ve stayed at 1hotel properties, kempinski, the Waldorf Astoria etc and this place was not 5 star. I am currently still in Cancun and immediately went to a new 5 star resort (UNICO) for the remainder of my stay. Much better.
- The food is horrible here, almost inedible. So mediocre, I just don’t understand how it’s so bad. Everything lacked flavor and wasn’t cooked well. The restaurants are dated, there are long wait times and the service is slow and they lack organization. The buffet restaurant had some of the worst food but was the easiest to get a table at unfortunately. I had better food in the airport at the chase sapphire lounge than at this resort.
- The rooms are dated and not that clean. The jacuzzi tubs were dirty. The water smelled in the shower like sulfur. There were stains in the sheets, curtains and lampshades.
-From check in they are trying to upsell you in everything. The wait times at the check in desk at the preferred lounge are super long as well. Many times only one person at the desk.
- It should basically be called wedding & family resort. They have multiple weddings a night and the music is loud which I didn’t mind at all but if you have kids, this may be an issue.
-Almost impossible to get a beach chair or pool chair here.
Honestly I can go on and on with all the issues but I would be writing an essay. Worst stay ever.
The resort needs a complete revamp from top to bottom.
Fabulous all round vacation for our group of 16.
Rooms were large, clean with very effective AC.
Only a 25 min shuttle from Cancun airport.
Service was spot on thanks to Wilbert and Omar by the pool/beach. Erick had a cocktail cart that was extra special.
First class restaurant food and service, thanks to servers Johanna, Vincent, Veronica and Sheila just to name a few. Kudos to the staff behind the scenes. Definitely a resort to revisit.
Long review lots to cover: Just returned from 6 days at this resort and I wanted to love it but...
The preferred club is not worth the extra price $$. The plunge pools are freezing, never once had turn down service, nor did we see the snack cart. You don't get any priority seating at the restaurants, line up like everyone else. They give you a buzzer.
Bring BUG spray - lots of it - the hotel provides a small bottle in the room, but we woke up one morning with a bunch of bites on our arms and legs
Room: Showing some wear and tear. Water is not hot, more like tepid. If you're going to share a room with someone make sure it's some you're comfortable seeing you in the buff. Room had bathrobe and slippers. Bathrooms have little privacy. One day we had no maid service.
Food: it's ok, standard buffet food - there's a sushi station - the Asian and Mexican restaurants were good. Coco Cafe is nice for a quick bite, (try the turkey sandwich) coffee. Alcohol is weak, the only bar that really does drinks well is the lobby bar. The apple martini is a stand out.
Food at the beach is hot dogs, burgers etc. On Thursday night had dinner at the buffet around 8:15 pm place was half empty and yet no one asked us if we wanted anything to drink, had to flag down a waiter
Tons of activities all day long. The site is beautiful and the staff are nice. nicer if you tip continually, especially at the beach.
Hot tub full of kids
The beach is beautiful, seaweed cleaned up continually.
BUT the real issue is the towel game at the beach, get up early and reserve your chair which is ridiculous, not enough chairs which are reserved all day with no one on them, the beach attendants are no help.
Frustrating, and this applies to the preferred club area of the beach too, get up early, way way early if you want a beach chair.
Why small children and babies get their own loungers is beyond comprehension. And since there is no bracelet system, who knows if the people in the preferred club area are really preferred?
WiFi is good throughout the resort.
Spa: we had a hydra therapy session at the spa as part of the preferred club hot sauna and cold plunge pool, water massage and wonderful service. We received coupons for massage discounts, we opted for the foot massage and received $20 off. The spa grounds are gorgeous.
Gym is tiny, couple of ellipticals, treadmills and weight machines.
Common area bathrooms are spotless.
They have a kids movie playing outside most nights, walk by and snag a bag of popcorn.
If you want to go to Puerto Morelos the hotel will tell you that you can take a cab for $22US to drive 15 minutes. Call an Uber instead, pay in pesos. We paid $60 pesos for a 10 minute Uber to PM. Try to get Brenda as your Uber driver, wonderful lady!
Would I return? NO
I had high hopes for this vacation and all I can say is, it was ok. Save yourself the $ avoid preferred club you still won't get a spot on the beach or priority seating but at least you didn't pay for something you didn't get.
AND BUG SPRAY!
We just returned home from a week-long stay at this hotel with our kids aged 8 to 17. Unfortunately, we all fell ill on our last day, making the journey home unpleasant and casting a shadow over our overall experience at this hotel. We suspect it was due to food or water from the resort as we did not leave during our stay.
Location: Fantastic. The beach is stunning, and the hotel diligently maintains it, keeping it free of seaweed. Best part of the resort.
Noise: Extremely loud. This resort is the noisiest I've ever stayed at. With weddings almost every evening, the music blares until 11 pm. The volume was so high that we could hear the lyrics of each song, making it difficult to sleep, especially for our younger children.
Rooms: Average. While clean with excellent views, the layout is poor and not suitable for families. We booked the family suite, essentially two adjoining rooms with bathrooms that lacks privacy due to the fact that they are just part of the room. There is no door. The shower and toilet have partially frosted glass. This setup could work for couples but was challenging for our family with teenagers and members of all ages who don’t necessarily want to get naked and change, go to the bathroom and shower in front of each other.
Food: Disappointing. Although there were a few decent items, overall, it was the worst food we've had at a resort. The buffet was unappetizing, and the quality at the restaurants varied greatly. Even as non-picky eaters, we struggled to enjoy the meals.
Service: Subpar. While some staff, like our housekeeper, pool waiter, and arcade attendant, were exceptional, many restaurant staff members were less than polite. They appeared annoyed by our presence and lacked hospitality. Considering we didn't have any special requests or dietary restrictions, we can only imagine how they would have reacted to such inquiries.
Restaurants: Old and in need of updating. There is no reservations so you need to go down early to get a buzzer. We sometimes waited over an hour to be seated.
Pools: The pools were okay. The kids liked the kids pool. The infinity pool seemed a bit cloudy but it was very full so probably sunscreen residue. There is VERY limited chairs so we opted to pay to rent a cabana for the week. This made things much more pleasant.
Entertainment and Activities: Limited. This is a small resort with few entertainment options. While the entertainment team organizes some activities, they are poorly executed, and the nighttime events lack suitable venues for viewing, often taking place on the lobby stairs.
Smoking/vaping: This was happening everywhere which is really gross. Even in the pools with kids around. They don’t seem to have any rules about this whatsoever.
Preferred club: Total scam. Im not sure what the benefit was aside from the better breakfast option at seaside. Check in was a bit chaotic. Not friendly. We didn’t receive drinks. The little buffet they have in the preferred club lounge was just as gross as the buffet itself. I wouldn’t get this again.
Overall, we wouldn't choose to stay at this resort again. Despite its picturesque setting and a handful of standout staff members, the overall experience was marred by inadequate service, substandard food, limited entertainment options and becoming sick while staying here. We wouldn't recommend it to families or couples traveling alone.
Hands down the worst resort we have been to.
As soon as you arrive the front desk is trying to upsell everything and get you to buy timeshares. It felt like a used car dealership.
The food is horrible. We waited 2.5 hrs to get into the french a la carte. Once we ordered we waited another hour for our food. Which was burnt. We had to walk out and just order room service because it was so bad.
Only one breakfast place open to feed the whole resort. The cafe had meat sandwiches sitting out in the heat all day.
We went to the buffet a few times and didn't put anything on our plate cause it all looked so bad. Luckily they have bread or else we wouldn't have ate.
The liquor is bottom shelf and watered down. My wife does not drink and everytime she asked for no liquor in her drinks the bartenders would give her a hard time.
There are bugs in the room getting over all our clothes and drinks.
The jacuzzi tub in the room has dirt coming out the jets and sink faucets leak.
There is so much seaweed on the beach.
I feel most these 5 star reviews are fake. Do your due diligence and read the 1 star reviews. They are very true from what I have seen.
Now I am sure I will be getting to copy and paste reply from the management just like every other review got.
We have spent way too much to come here and we are not impressed. Definitely last time coming here.
10 out of 10 resort!!! I recently stayed here for a wedding and it was my first time in Mexico and I can rest assure you that I will be back!!! 😁 Great transport to and from the resort from the airport, beautiful layout, great drinks and food!! Loved it! They don’t have Gatorade/powerade so bring you IV hydration packs for a bottle of water, but don’t hesitate to book!
Very clean Everything, excellent service
Super
My husband and I got married here in January and absolutely loved our stay. Any staff we came in contact with was very friendly and helpful. The bartenders and wait staff were always on point with their service and drinks were delicious. The food here was probably the best resort food we have had, especially the food on our wedding day! Our wedding coordinator, Samuel, was incredible. He was super helpful with any questions we had and he was just so easy to chat with. He was super detailed when communicating with us and helped make our wedding day unforgettable! If you are assigned to work with Samuel, you will not be disappointed!! Our wedding photographer Ivan (Adventure Photo), did an incredible job, we love our photos!! Overall, this resort was perfect for hosting our wedding and to party with our wedding guests for the week!
Very friendly people, delicious food and beautiful facilities
2 stars because their wedding planning staff acted like they had absolutely had no interest in my business and was completely unprofessional with little to no correspondence.
I made an appointment with Michelle for a Friday afternoon. I emailed to confirm this appointment several weeks before. She responded fairly timely with a day or two after confirming.
However, our flight got delayed and I sent an email notifying we may be a few minutes late. Then another email when we got to the grounds (we were actually only around 10-20 minutes late due to the flight delay) notifying her we were there, only to be told that's when the wedding planning staff takes their lunch. Then why make an appointment at that time? THEN we find out she wasn't even there that day and we met with someone else who gave us a later time that day. All of that was a little weird but fine.
The whole reason we went to the resort was to get all of the wedding planning started - pick a date, put down a deposit, etc. I told the staff this. They did not show me the grounds or really talk to me very long except to say "We will email you dates around the date you asked and continue from there. I'll also send package information."
After waiting for 3 days with no email, I went back up to the office and asked when I was supposed to receive the email. They said "today."
Okay. I waited until the end of the day (before they got off) with still no email, and had to go back and ask AGAIN. That is completely unacceptable. I have never in my LIFE had to CHASE DOWN any wedding planning professional for correspondence. EVER. Then when I finally got the email, the dates they gave WERE FOR EVERY DAY EXCEPT THE ONE I ASKED FOR (a Saturday). I was very flexible with which month it could be as long as the ceremony was on a Saturday. But clearly, that wasn't very important to them. I emailed them back stating I needed a date with a Saturday 2 days ago, and I have still not heard anything at all. AND the "more information" I was supposed to get gave no pricing about the packages (or any real information at all except pictures), and they wanted me to put down a deposit of $750 without being told what my package option details were? They said the packages start at $3.9k - but which one?? Then when I said "it will be a small wedding, probably around 50, and that I wanted to have a budget around $10k. I was even willing to go higher if necessary. Apparently, that's not enough to be considered important enough to get actual timely correspondence or effort.
I was so heartbroken because I truly honestly was set to get married at this location but the absolute lack of professionalism and correspondence gives me 0 faith in their ability to provide a successful wedding.
I would have given it 1 star but the location itself is beautiful and most of the other hotel staff are very nice so I gave it an extra star.
I spent a lot of money to plan my dream wedding only to basically be ignored and blown off. I am so disappointed that I will probably not be back to vacation again. I had been there to vacation before and absolutely loved it a couple years ago. To see it decline in customer service so drastically is immensely disappointing.
Service💯
Rooms 💯
Food💯
This was the first time travelling with our 7-month-old and the staff, food, and amenities at Dreams Cancun were beyond what we could have ever imagined. Our group had 14 people (ranging from 7 month to 80 years) and there was something for everyone – from yoga on the beach, to the infinity pool overlooking the ocean, to the kid’s waterpark, face painting and everything in between. They even had cribs, sterilizers, and highchairs available so we could travel (a little bit) lighter.
The pool staff were incredible – we had the pleasure of a poolside cabana for two days and Jesus, Javier, and the entire pool concierge team, along with Ricardo and the pool bar staff made sure we were pampered all day.
Most importantly - what sets this resort apart from the others we have visited was the outstanding staff. Everyone was so friendly, professional, and accommodating and ensured we had the best vacation. It is tricky coordinating a large group but the team at Dreams made it seem easy.
We will definitely be returning next year! Thank-you to everyone!!!
NOOOOOOOOOOT A FIVEEEEEE STARRRRRR! Lies! Wouldn’t return here if it was free! Only thing good abt this place is the staff. Wouldn’t come back to another HYATT. Dirty! Got food poisoning!
Loud and not relaxing! 800 weddings a day and just a loud place with
We had a wonderful time here! The food, staff, service, and location were amazing. The people who work here truly make it a wonderful place to visit as they go above and beyond to make sure you feel at home. I have celiac disease and was given a card upon arrival to show to the hostess when I went to eat. I was able to be accommodated without getting sick. I had a moderate amount of options at the restaurants but room service had much slimmer choices. A cool feature is that there are events all day and shows every night. The resort area is busy and can be louder, however if you prefer a quieter time you can hang by the beach away from the activities. It allowed for a nice mixture of quiet relaxation and fun festivities. We really enjoyed our time here! Special shoutout to Clever (bartender) who remembered our names from the moment we arrived until we left. I can't imagine the number of guests he sees yet still remembers everyone & their drink of choice. Everyone was so amazing here, we'd definitely recommend them!
Not impressed. I’m an avid traveler and Platinum with Marriott and Hilton. Was trying Hyatt but I’m good and won’t come back! First night found a wad of hair in our shower. Disappointed big time. Obviously cleanliness isn’t a top priority. Had the room changed but front desk tried to upgrade us to $5600 preferred club. This is laughable to say the least. Will make the best of it because we are here but definitely won’t be back! And will not try Hyatt again. I’ll stick to Hilton and Marriott.
The beach is super clean, good quality drinks and food (for example Don Julio, Fresh Juices or Callo de Hacha, Tuna Tiraditas etc.) but above all the service is truly incredible.
If I want to mention a few names especially because they treated us very very kindly and helped us with anything or we simply chatted comfortably:
- Pablo and Irma at Breakfast in the buffet restaurant - thank you for helping us with sick children.
- Christian at the juice buffet - always a contagious smile. Thanks for the fresh orange juices :)
- Gersom and Team at the beachbar - good talks, good attention. Always ready for any questions.
- Restaurant chef - thank you for the Relleno Negro and all the delicious meals at breakfast and noon :)
