Fairmont Mayakoba Vacations

4.7 - 2361 Reviews
Riviera Maya, Mexico

The Fairmont Mayakoba is a 5 Diamond award winning resort in the spectacular Mayan Riviera. It has 401 elegant rooms scattered among the main building and villas spread through the indigenous jungle, and 34 beach and lagoon casitas – each one offering guests an extraordinary and memorable view. Built alongside mangroves and natural canals, the oceanfront casitas with private plunge pools have the added bonus of facing a newly restored beach with awe-inspiring scenery.

Tee up at the El Camaleón PGA golf course, test the waters of the Mexican Caribbean on a stand-up paddleboard or during a guided catamaran tour, enjoy Mayan-inspired spa experiences, and take part in daily birding ecotours – all without ever having to leave the resort.

Location: Directly on the beach, 40-minute drive from Cancun International airport.

Our Opnion

A very unique 5-star hotel. The Mayakoba steps away from the conventional resort setting, situating near the forest portion of the resort grounds, rather than the beach. While it does divert from the usual resort scenery, many applaud the beautiful grounds. The resort has excellent guest services and great food. This is the perfect destination for those who are looking for a unique getaway to the Riviera Maya.

We stayed here for an award trip and the site was amazing. Staff were incredibly warm and hospitable. The property was its own beautiful ecosystem. Highly recommended taking a boat tour around the property- we saw all kinds of wildlife. The food was amazing and the casita was luxurious.

A beautiful welcoming lobby greeted us, with a cool towel after a long travel day. Check in was easy, we were upgraded to a newly renovated casita suite which was a nice perk. The rooms are gorgeous, modern but chic with a spacious bathroom that includes a stunning outdoor shower. The grounds are perfectly manicured with winding lagoons throughout the property where boat tours run regularly taking you all over the unique Mayakoba property. The Maykana beach club is their new crown jewel and it does not disappoint! A gorgeous infinity pool anchors the site, opening onto the perfect white sands beach. Of all 4 properties at Mayakoba, Fairmont arguably has the best piece of beach real estate with a wide swath of beach front. Maykana has amazing restaurants including Brisas and Gaia which provide your meal in a stunning setting overlooking the ocean. Upstairs of Maykana is a ultra chic bar, Cielo, with sunken seating in a pool. A cool place for a nightcap. Back near the main area of the hotel, La Laguna has been updated, to have 5 fresh pools that is divided in such a way, that many times you feel you have your own private pool area. There is plenty of seating, so no fighting for empty chairs. At la laguna is also Cafe Maya, a perfect place to start your day with a coffee and pastry then there are two terrific restaurants overlooking the canals. Lastly don't miss Tauro, the steak house at Fairmont, for an amazing steak dinner experience.

A good and excellent experience

My stay in Fairmont Mayakoba was exceptional! Love every moment since we got to the lobby for check in. The staff in the resort was excellent. Would recommend Fairmont ! Excellent customer service
We will go back for sure! Thank you so much to all the staff for making a memorable our family vacations in Mexico 🇲🇽

We have the best experience at this hotel! The rooms were beautiful! The service is excellent and the breakfast is delicious! Especially want to complement Ana at reception and Alejandra at the spa for making my time amazing! Also the chefs at the breakfast that made the most delicious Huevos Rancheros!!! Thank you!

Without a doubt, the best place I have ever stayed in my life. High quality restaurants.... Italian, Asian, meat... The atmosphere in the rooms is magnificent. The architect of this place was very blessed. I would easily spend a month there if I had the money. I wouldn't miss the world out here. The Jet Ski tour is fantastic (paid separately). I went to an event for the company I work for and the event rooms also leave nothing to be desired. The infrastructure is complete.

Beautifully renovated resort (only shows its actual age in limited ways); location is well imbedded into the jungle surroundings with a beautiful stretch of beach; central pool area could be better designed (too much of a maze to move around); staff is incredibly friendly though the level of service didn't meet our experience at other luxury resorts; spring break timing (end of March) was very busy with tons of families (pros and cons); some oddly planned events at certain restaurants during our stay to celebrate the approaching Easter holiday (pivoted 1 dinner to a buffet with no access to regular menu; another pivoted from the regular menu to a 7-course tasting menu with no kid-friendly options and some odd live entertainment) so be aware of potential last-minute changes to your dinner plans; property was fairly accommodating to our toddler, though more geared to older kids; breakfast buffet at La Laguna is quite good though it's the main breakfast option on property and can get old; easy to get around the large property via golf cart shuttle; do not expect to get a boat ride as they require a reserved tour (not used as a shuttle) that needs to be booked multiple days (or even weeks) ahead

Beautiful property!

Awesome resort with amazing service

Cons:

Health/Sanitary concerns in question- my son got really sick with fever and vomiting during our stay here- trip to hospital (costing $2500 + disruption to travel plans home, not to mention parents worst nightmare). Did we eat off the resort a couple times? Yes. But read other reviews from guests here and food poisoning seems to be a common complaint for this property. All you have to do is watch the beach & pool waitstaff- do they ever stop to wash hands between removing dirty dishes and serving clean ones? No!

Our rooms air conditioner smelled like mold. The first time the “fix” from maintenance was to put air freshener tablets in. When we called a second time to say that is not a true fix and we don’t want to be in a room with dangerous mold, they supposedly sanitized the unit. However the smell remained until we were finally able to change rooms.

Aside from that, other complaints: All pool and beach chairs fill up by mid morning. Resort is sprawling and difficult to get around. Food & drink prices are extremely high for the quality and portions. Lots of maintenance issues like screen doors not closing properly.

Pros: Staff overall was friendly & helpful. Valet service staff was exceptional. Rocky, restaurant manager was kind. Cleaning staff did a great job. Lots of ammenties, beautiful sandy white beach. Resort doctor came quickly and did a thourouh exam on our son.

We had a wonderful trip to the Fairmont Mayakoba with our toddler (2.5 years old). We opted for a beachside casita which gave us access to butler service which was a huge bonus. It was great to be able to walk easily to the mayakana beach club (especially for nap times) and we loved enjoying the stunning grounds, pool and beach. Services was lovely. Amazing ice cream sandwich (yes really!) at Brezes. A perfect getwaway

Title: Beautiful Resort with Steep Dining Prices - Fairmont Mayakoba Review

I recently stayed at the Fairmont Mayakoba and found the resort itself to be quite impressive. The decor throughout the property is beautifully done, creating a luxurious and welcoming atmosphere. The rooms are equally appealing, offering comfort and elegance that meet the high standards of the Fairmont brand.

However, the sprawling nature of the resort means that getting from one part of the property to another, especially from the main areas to the beach, requires transportation by cart. This can be both inconvenient and inconsistent, somewhat dampening the overall convenience of the resort experience.

But my most significant concern lies with the cost of food at the resort's restaurants. There seems to be a substantial discrepancy between the quality of food provided and the prices charged. While I understand that resorts often charge a premium for dining, the prices at Fairmont Mayakoba seem to far exceed what one might expect, even in top-tier restaurants across North America. This is particularly striking given the relatively lower cost of living in the Mexican economy, which makes the high dining costs feel like severe price gouging.

In summary, while the Fairmont Mayakoba offers a beautiful setting and comfortable accommodations, guests should be prepared for the inconvenience of moving around the large property and, more importantly, for the steep dining prices that might not entirely match up with the quality of the food offered.

As always Fairmont was a wonderful experience. The "Casita", luxurious and comfortable. Service was excellent.

The rooms were great, as was the housekeeping service. The restaurants were all very good, except for Fuego, where we felt very rushed. Our reservations at Fuego were not communicated with the restaurant. We also booked a snorkeling trip to the reef which was cancelled. This was not communicated to us until we arrived at the dive center ( there had been no trips for 2 days).
Overall we had a great trip, except for a few issues.

Unbelievable service. Great location.

Phenomenal property. Great food. Excellent staff. We will be back.

Service level was not consistent. Needed more staff and better processes to mitigate crowds. They fail on things like leaking fixtures and ease of use compared to competitors. Beautiful property, but I can't recommend it.

I am Accor Live Limitless member with platinum status. I do not state this to brag, but merely demonstrate how Fairmont Mayakoba treats individuals who hold a higher status level within its loyalty program. Booking on ALL, there is a lowest price guarantee with a price match plus an additional 10% off should you find a cheaper alternative on a third party website i.e. Expedia. You must book on ALL to receive the Platinum status benefits. Despite clearly demonstrating a far cheaper price (difference of approx $1400 for a three night stay) on Expedia for precisely the same room and dates, it took multiple attempts of contact with ALL customer service over a period of nearly 1 week and the issue still was left unresolved. This has left a sour taste and from what I can tell the entire issue falls on the staff at the Fairmont, not the ALL support person I was dealing with, who was quite kind and responsive. This hotel and its service experience is not representative of what I have come to expect from the Fairmont brand. I can only imagine they do everything they can to skirt around the ALL benefits you are entitled to when you are actually there on the property. Very disappointing.

The rooms were nice, the bathroom was spacey with dual sinks. The cable/TV wasn't reliable. Room service was exceptional, but I'm giving 3 stars in service because service wasn't as great at the restaurants (with the exception of Fuego). Location was perfect, and having caddies and bikes throughout the hotel was nice.
