The whole of the rear of the hotel around the lake is covered with scaffolding. Workmen wandering around. Feels like a building site. Really expensive to stay on a building site.

I give this place a 10/10 but please add breakfast meat such as sausage or bacon to the Portofino club breakfast and maybe even mimosas.

There are pluses and minuses to this place at the time I stayed. My biggest rating for low star rating is construction with pictures attached.
PROS
-express pass
-family friendly
-accessible to Universal by Boat
CONS
-CONSTRUCTION undergoing. In fairness they did mention there would be SOME construction. Please see me pictures attached to see my issue. This place is going under substantial rennovation and very noisy during day! Majority is under construction. Not very pretty. I love Universal but this left a sour taste for me. Although part of the reason to book is the express pass, the alternative express pass Universal hotels were within $20 difference at the time of my booking (basically negligble when you're paying so much). I told the person on checkout but they didn't care as obviously they clearly heard it thousands of times. Very unfair of Universal to offer this hotel when they had similar priced ones not having workers everywhere. I felt duped.... I suspect it may not be a big deal if you are at Universal the whole time but if you wanna go back to hotel during day time think of it as a 1 star location with the construction. I wish I went to one of their other ones....

Check the construction details carefully before you book. This website describes the construction as a little busy but it is totally under construction on the exterior. The corridors are blocked off and confusing. You won't get the Portofino Italy themed experience and we were disappointed with what is advertised as the premier hotel. You would be much better off at Hard Rock or even Sapphire Falls. The parks were great and the Universal Fast Passes were worth it. Without the construction it might be okay although the interior is very outdated.

The hotel in general is starting to show its age. They need to freshen up the hallways, outlets in rooms, bathroom tiles, etc. The convenience of easy travel to the parks is still a plus but I will consider other options the next time we plan a trip to Universal

Our shower was broken for two days. The maintenance said they fixed it on day 2. On day 2 it was still pooling up. Maintenance came while we were in the room and instructed us to jiggle the drain. Needless to say I would not be jiggling any drain at a 5 star hotel. I was able to escalate finally and get us moved to a new room. This stay was extremely disappointing, in addition to the shower issues the hotels renovation was very problematic with noise and atmosphere. I wish I had booked the Royal pacific again but wanted to splurge and try universal’s alleged best on site property. That was a mistake and we did not enjoy anything about this property and won’t be back. At least the front desk staff offered us free breakfast but after paying over $3000 for 4 days, I’m still highly disappointed

This place was amazing! It's under construction right now until December, but they do a good job of hiding it as best they can. Everyone there was helpful, friendly, and accommodating. I highly recommend Portifino Bay! It also smells really nice, weird comment, but it's true! Good vibes there.

For those of you trying to decide between Portofino Bay or the other Universal hotels, this hotel gives each guest FREE Unlimited Express passes. This was the only reason we chose this location. If we didn't stay here, we would have had to pay $349 per person for an Unlimited Express pass PLUS the nightly cost of the hotel. Staying here saved us so much money in express pass costs. If you don't need express passes because you're visiting the parks at a less crowded time of the year, then our favorite Universal Hotel is Sapphire falls. It's more affordable and brighter/airy in design. Although at Portofino Bay we did love the rooms and the Italy theme overall.

Pros:

-Express passes come with stay

-Water Taxi straight to the parks

-FREE pads in women’s bathrooms (a genuine lifesaver, and a thoughtful touch that made me appreciate this hotel much more)

Cons:

- We came here for a birthday and paid extra for a room with a bay view. Upon arriving, they gave us a different room that had no view. In fact, they actually had the windows covered in plastic due to construction. Why advertise the room and charge extra if you don't have it available in the first place?

-Have to double check charges. We were charged for parking although we didn't park a car.

-Nighttime staff wasn't attentive, or anywhere to be found. Had to wait at an empty counter for 10 minutes before someone came out. Hotel was deserted. We thought we were maybe in the wrong place.

- Plastic water bottles in room are $7.50 which is quite steep even for Universal. We got them anyhow because there was no other water options on the property in the evening hours.

Great location for Universal Parks and the bonus of having the Universal Express Pass was well worth it!

Everything was fantastic, especially the staff who I would like to thank (Maya, Seth and Aaron), who gave us one of the best stays we have ever had.

Excellent Hotel even though they was alot of construction going on. Great location, very clean. Very accommodating staff. Highly recommend

Main courtyard was 75% under construction, which was communicated when booking. The overall resort is nice, but it is farthest away. Beds were comfortable and staff very nice.

Construction everywhere. Loud all day and an eye sore. It might be similar to Italy in that sense but did not make for a good vacation. This is one of the most expensive properties in the area. They should be very clearly warning people or offering something extra to remedy.

Had a fantastic stay at Loews Portinfo Bay Resort for Spring Break 2024. My 2 and 6yr old loved the pools and the water taxi to the parks. Will definitely be staying here again.

Loved everything about our stay

Such a great experience and opportunity to have a blast with my large family of 9. The hotel and staff took care of all our needs and were able to experience a lot of great memories at Universal.

It's under construction. Don't stay here. It's SO loud!

Excellent pools, great bocce setup, amazing on-site restaurants, Opera in the restaurant and courtyard, Water taxi on-site... All amazing. Stay here if you're on the fence between two hotels.

Nice resort. Was under construction when we stayed there. But overall, nice place to stay while visiting Universal.

Our room didn’t have a bed frame…the box spring was held up by dorm room style risers but no frame.
