Our Opnion

The Melia Peninsula Varadero seems to slip behind some of its sister resorts in Varadero. The rooms and grounds are bit dated and the service seems to not be quite as good as the other resorts. Because of this we've rated it 3.5 stars. Still a good choice if the price is attractive. If looking for a better option try the Melia Marina Varadero or the Iberostar Laguna Azul, both of which are right near this resort.

Bad experience, very disappointed with the food, entertainment, cocktail services, so for Cuba we won't go back again, too disappointed

We are French and come from Brittany. We spent two weeks in room 2352 from March 11 to 26, 2024.
Generally speaking, the hotel staff is very helpful.

We would like to particularly thank our housekeeper Yohandra who was very professional and extremely helpful
We enjoyed discussing the country, its culture etc... with the gardeners, waiters and all the staff
Thanks to the Cubans and Melia Peninsula
Hasta luego

The staff is very friendly, but their drinks are very, very, very bad, the only saving grace is the beer, the beach is beautiful and the common facilities are in good condition, only one of the 5 pools was working but it was in good condition. size, although the place to order pool towels is quite far from it, the buffet was very large but honestly I consider none of their food or drinks tasty or of quality, although the cheeses were very good.

The crew is friendly and the resort is beautiful, but the service for an all in hotel was really substandard. We could only drink ananas juice, orange juice, water or beer at lunch and dinner. The mini bar in the room was empty. In the bathroom you only get 1 shower towel that you have to use for the full week (and it already smelled bad when we arrived). Always the same dishes you can eat during lunch and dinner. The animation at night was never authentic cuban. Let's say we were disappointed, the casa particulares were much better!

A very very bad hotel. It's a JOKE OF A 5 STAR HOTELS. Being a generous man I will give 1 star for this 5 star hotel. Stayed 2 days on March 17&18 2024. Go to Mexico and see what 5 stars mean. Staff are not happy, clients are not happy. Paying 156$/night to Westjet feels like a ripoff. They had same menu mornings, afternoons & evenings. My fellow Canadians booked for a week or two were very angry that they are kind of stuck there eating same food for day in a day out. Showers don't give hot water, bugs run around on my ground floor, phones don't work so had to walk to get the cart for luggage transport, fridge cabinet hinges falling apart, bedsheet had some blood or poopy stain that I have a photo of, staff agreed with me that it is a bad hotel (I speak Spanish). In short, this is a Joke of a 5 star hotels !! Hate to say this since once Melia was truly well reputable name in hotel industry. My friends, go to Mexico and enjoy 5 star ! Meanwhile Meliá need to go there too to learn what 5 star is ! This is my truest & very honest review of this hotel. No disrespect to anybody !🙏🙏🙏

Date of visit 03-24-06 in short the hotel is falling apart main green swimming pool for a few days.....buffet ok the staff service I give a 5 star very appreciated the rest a 3 star not a real Melia

Our room was always clean and Joselin was super friendly and took good care of us making sure we always have water to drink. I love the omelettes and the cook that prepared them was really nice. I am very satisfied with the overall experience!

Of the 10 rooms in which we were accommodated, half were uninhabitable. The stench of dampness, the lack of towels, the bed linen had not been changed by the previous tenants. The patio doors on the ground floor can be entered from the outside without a lock. A buffet, but the meat is undercooked, hard, the fruit is stale, and the freshness of vegetable salads is questionable. The service is lazy. Overall two stars

Good morning
For your well-being do not book at this hotel
I came from February 18 to 26. What a shame. What a joke. My daughter gets the shower holder on her head. My wife broke a tooth with the rice. Presence of stones. Cockroaches, birds and cats will be present at buffet lunch and dinner. food the same lunch and dinner or escalope pasta and rice nothing else. no nursery closed. the three children's games are broken. no wifi room 1525 and 1526 during the stay. the director remains silent despite all these problems. dirty dilapidated rooms. sheets... will never be changed and the smell...
Given the previous reviews I didn't dare believe the criticisms but they are very real. After the third day I wanted to leave. Shameful
Rating out of 10. I would put -1

Fantastic resort with wonderful people with superfantastic staff. Thoroughly enjoyed myself lovely people always having a smiling face 🌝

Not recommended! For a 5 star hotel 🌟!

Oh God .Where to start . I will start with the worst .It really was the worst experience of my life. I was stolen on the second day inside the resort . I just turned my head to take a picture with my friends close to the shore and my backpack disappeared like that Oh boy, I hope you never experience that in your life. All my keys, the new phone with all my contacts and work communication and me filling stuck in that whole .
Being safe there is a lie, the shore is long and people can walk from far just to steal anything they can , was told me from a local person.
No camera, no guard and no police to protect you . After the incident they sent few people for security next day in the beach but the bad was already done. And the security left on the coming days,.
Customer service office (the only place that I've been sent to report the situation ) couldn’t do much. The computers were so old that I couldn’t do any attempt to trace my 23 ultra location and try to find it as my only desperate movement.
The internet that was on and off . And few days even 0 wifi to connect with families throw my friend phone.

On top the attitude of the girl in the reception. Very bad, I have never seen someone in the front desk with that Diva attitude, everything she was doing was like she was bothered.
First day arriving in the resort at 11 am I was left with my friends waiting for the room up to 3:30 pm . Unbelievable, the whole day was gone . And nobody would apologies for that or take responsibility.

At this point mentioning the old room with cockroaches that I had to kill every day , or the room cards - (me going back and forward to the reception to activate them as they would stop working to open the door)
Men I don’t know .Unbelievable. What i can say is

I tried my best to stay positive with the rest and try to find the good in the good people and give gifts to those in need. But for sure If I didn’t have my friend around, that magic sea with that beautiful weather , I would go crazy in this resort. This was not a resort, was a nightmare for me.

I just tried to squeeze many things of my experience but not everything. I would say to you reading this , don't go there .
By fact is losing first your peace and of course your money to spend time in this resort those few days that we have during the year.
PS: I have to put one star as my review won't be recorded.

Everything was wrong, the customer service was a joke, they only gave us two bath towels, we complained that the rest of the towels were missing and we didn't even come without them giving us any.
We complained that the TV was not working and they passed on to us and insisted that they tell us where the room was, etc., a disaster.

Sunwing (Westjet) and Melia, I can’t believe you attach your names to this resort.
Limited quantities of supplies. Pathetic water features filled with green sludge and garbage. Terrible wifi. Non working hotel room safes and card locks. No entertainment….. the list goes on.
We did find the staff friendly, but it is clear they know they are on a sinking ship and seem to wish they were somewhere else. The sun and waves were great, but you can find those things at a nicer resort. Stay away from this one everyone.

Not as advertised at all. No activities for anybody, had to forage to find a ball for our kids. No entertainment other than the same 15 songs played on the terrace every night. Food is bland, don’t chew too hard you might chip a tooth. Most of the staff are terribly rude and unhelpful. Running out of supplies everyday, no mix to make cocktails or blended drinks, just rum and beer (sometimes). They say they can’t get it, but head into town and you go to some great restaurants with all the selection you want. Don’t waste your time or money.

1. Reservations at specialty restaurants were impossible unless you arrived on Saturday. This is because on Sunday morning reservations are opened for the entire week, allowing clients already accommodated to occupy all the few available reservations. Additionally, reservations are not allowed at these restaurants on the day of check-in and they are only open for dinner. To make matters worse, the last night at the Japanese restaurant, the cook got two mini cockroaches out of the food and tried to kill them without us noticing, but they finally started walking around the table. If the client part already looks like that, I don't want to know what the kitchen will be like.
2. The quality of the food was very low, although we understand the limitations in Cuba, we expected a better experience, especially compared to other establishments in Trinidad or Havana. Additionally, we noticed that the specialty restaurants offered the same food as the all-you-can-eat buffet, just presented differently.
3. Despite online advertising promoting lobster barbecues and other dishes, we did not have the opportunity to enjoy these options. When we inquired about it, we received a sarcastic response from a cook, which reflects a lack of customer service.
4. The water activities did not take place and we found the boats and kayaks chained on the beach. The staff did not provide a satisfactory explanation, they simply indicated that the nautical venue equipment was not available.
5. Recreational activities such as yoga and dancing were scarce and only carried out after a complaint was made to customer service.
6. We also encountered problems with the maintenance of our facilities, including problems with the lock on our room, lack of proper cleaning, and areas of the hotel that appeared abandoned or in disrepair.
7. The attitude of the employees is regrettable towards the customer, you have to beg to be served a drink or to help you with any question related to the hotel.
8. Drinks were basically water, rum and occasionally some soft drinks. In the 4 days we couldn't have any real mojitos, since there was no sparkling water or Sprite, they were all made with normal water.
Despite these shortcomings, we recognize that the hotel's location offers access to a beautiful beach with views of the keys, although this aspect is common in other properties in the area. And the only point in favor is really the kindness of some employees, such as the customer service staff (if they were all like them, the stay would have changed a lot) and the hotel director, who was attentive at all times and doing his best. Maximum you can with the state of this hotel. They are the only positive thing we take with us.

There are days when they don't put out bath towels. Unfriendly employees who are not willing to help resolve problems. I asked for identification and they refused to give it. I stayed at this hotel for 12 days and I don't plan on going to any other hotel in this chain.

HOTEL MELIA PENINSULA TO AVOID ESCAPE ESPECIALLY DO NOT RESERVE

It was the worst experience in my life. The photos were taken when the hotel was built. now it is ruined and neglected. Fountains with green water, rooms dirty and damaged, we couldn't enter the room for 4.5 hours. There were people at the hotel manager's every day with problems that something wasn't working. No coffee or pop in hotel for almost all our stay. there were no attractions in the hotel only one show in the evening

Back after a week of family vacation, hotel left abandoned, dilapidated room (scrupulous cleaning, broken shower head, sheets not changed, noisy air conditioning) in terms of catering you will always eat the same thing (rice, pasta , chicken or fish, raw vegetables and cold meats not in a cold zone, no orange juice only disgusting juices from home which have no taste) cocktail bar level to avoid not good at all
Swimming pool the war to have a deckchair taken from morning to evening by the same people only positive point the beach very beautiful if you manage once again to have a deckchair
Disappointed with my stay
