Varadero, Cuba

Nestled on 19 acres overlooking Arroyo Bermejo beach and surrounded by beautiful mountains, the adults-only Memories Jibacoa resort is the perfect setting for a wedding, a honeymoon, or a secluded holiday away from the hustle and bustle. Memories Jibacoa resort is a tropical hideaway, situated mid-way between Varadero and Havana, offers superb food and 'round the clock activities, including a 24 hour games room with billiards and table games, and a 24 hour jacuzzi in the garden area for a midnight dip.

Location: Beachfront, 60 minutes from Juan Gualberto Gomez International Airport, 75 minutes to Havana and 60 minutes to Varadero.

Our Opnion

Without question one of our most popular hotels in Cuba. Memories Jibacoa is secluded, but offers more than enough to keep you entertained. There are many activities during the day and right in front of the resort is some of best snorkeling Varadero. It's also an hour closer to Havana than Varadero, making a day trip much easier. Also, check out the tour to Santa Cruz, it's well worth it and the people there are amazing. Memories Jibacoa (formerly Breezes) consistently gets good reviews, that in itself speaks volumes for this all inclusive resort.

We just got back from a week at Memories Jibacoa. We had a fantastic vacation and really liked the resort and location.
We upgraded to Diamond level because we are not fans of buffets since we tend to overeat and I like to stay seated during my meal. We loved that we were able to get a la carte breakfast, lunch and we ate at all of the a la carte restaurants too. We did eat once at the buffet for one breakfast and one dinner, and it was good but it would be nicer for everyone to have some Cuban music playing. We have read that there is food shortages in Cuba, but we didn’t feel like anything was really missing, they have lots of fish, chicken, beef, pork and we had lobster a few times and the food was well spiced. So, no complaints!
The service was excellent. Everyone was so nice, and we got to know Elaine our Diamond Club a la carte waitress (she was amazing) and the beach waitress too (I forget her name). They were always there when we needed them. My daughter really enjoyed the buffet breakfast including Ray “omelet guy” who was always smiling and was very kind to her.
The entertainment at night was fun but I would have liked that they inform the guests more of the activities by the beach during the day. We had no idea they had a couple of special lunches/parties with live music at the beach restaurant while we were there, maybe because our beach chairs were too far???
Our room was old, but we expected that. Our fridge didn’t work and we had to get the safety box fixed on our first day – the guy was quick. The bed was super comfy, and the air conditioner was so cold, which is good, so we slept like babies each night. 😊 The property, beach and gardens were well taken care of, and the gym was great, had everything we needed for a good workout.
Our group loved the dogs and cats, they were all super sweet. If only they could get neutered and spayed.
The beach was awesome, super clean, great sand with the odd rock/shell. The lawn chairs were plentiful, never had issues finding one and lots of shade thanks to all of the palm trees.
We are avid snorkelers and absolutely loved that you can snorkel right off the beach to a beautiful healthy reef. There is a bit of bleaching of some coral (so please don’t lather sunblock before getting into the ocean!) and there isn’t a lot of large fish which is the case around most reefs nowadays but all in all we loved that we could snorkel a few times each day. We saw puffer fish, stingrays, scorpion fish, sea snails, and lots of small to medium fish.
The only cons were:
It would be nice if they could extend the restaurant hours a bit because there is no where to eat between 2:30-6:30 unless you go to the sports bar for a sandwich. The deli meat at the bar doesn’t cut it.
And...
On our last day, the latest we could check out was at 2 PM. I had asked a few days prior, and they told me to just go there on the last day to ask. I came with my credit card to the front desk to request 3 more hours and pay for the room, but they wouldn’t allow me to because both of the rooms we booked were already booked with people arriving later that day. Instead, they were kind enough to let us shower in another room which was in a terrible state. There was zero pressure in the shower head and the water wasn’t draining and was half full (past my ankles) when we got there so it was absolutely disgusting. If they are going to let people shower, provide a better room that doesn’t have issues.
Overall, we loved this resort and will definitely go back!
Thank you!

We were there in January 2023 and we were very pleasantly surprised by the reception of guests, service, great atmosphere, everyone was smiling, helpful, food was great, we had a slightly better package, so there was also service on the beach, best regards, Yeny, I will definitely come back there
I recommend it to those who want to relax

I was at your resort for the 4th time in early February. I enjoyed this stay the most thanks to one of your servers. Her name is Raily. She is a credit to your resort. There will definable be a 5th time.

Super pleasant vacation, wonderful days, the hotel in general is very good, service, treatment, food, comfort, everything very comfortable, and the views are super beautiful surrounded by beautiful mountains

Have been maybe 7 times and usually give 5 stars. But this time I have to give 3. Was Diamond Club, Oceanview room as usual. The usual Diamond Club lady was not there on our first day and the alternative lady acted very cold and like we were bothering her. No welcome face towel or drink. The rest of the week the usual Diamond Club lady (Jenny) was there and she’s great! On site Sunwing representative is very good. Rooms are very clean but getting very very old, with rust, broken lights etc. TV actually ok for Cuba. Good cellular reception, wifi is spotty. Exterior property is very clean and very very well landscaped. Lots of facilities - cigar shop, gift shop, gym, disco, lobby bar, restaurants, pool, piano bar, doctor, tennis, kayaks, sailing, scuba ($), etc. Two of the evening shows were cancelled. Found broken glass on beach 3x. They let rough public people come through the private beach to sell junk, never did let them before, it’s a security risk. If you don’t demand the premium alcohol they give you the cheap brands even though they see your Diamond Club wristband. DC get restocked room fridge. Food is abundant and no shortages. In the past they had lots of seafood, including razor clams, lobster, etc but now you have to pay $20 for lobster, even if you are Diamond Club!!! I noticed cost cut backs on a few things. The servers at breakfast time are slow and useless. In the afternoon they act better, in the evening the night staff are good. In the morning if you want any kind of eggs, good luck, you’ll have to lineup and wait forever. At the diamond club beach the waitress was more frequent this year for bringing drinks. There is no pressure to give waitresses tips, but if you do, they appreciate it. After the evening shows, they do pressure you for tips though. Oralys at the Lobby Bar is fantastic! They should all be like her.

Take the free walking tour up the road east, through the farm, to the scenic observation point! There are a few paid excursions, mostly to Havana, if you’ve never been, go!

Logistics to and from the airport were fine.

Not the fault of the resort, but don’t be an idiot and walk on the fragile reef!!! Lots of uneducated tourists. If the beach flag is red (often), they say you can’t swim due to jellyfish but most people swim. You may get stung (rare) but not lethal at all!

Not sure if I would return again. A little bit disappointed this year. Let’s see if management responds here.

Photos from the last couple of years.

To all "one-stars": yes, this resort is getting old. It wobbles here and crunches there, and the tiles sometimes have a crack. Nevertheless, I was able to easily overlook it because the friendliness and helpfulness of almost all of the employees is amazing. All “complaints” were addressed immediately, whether they were about repairs or other things.
The complex is clear, not too huge, very quiet because adults only and the beach is beautiful. The spa area is recommended, the massage is very soothing.
The only thing I actually have to complain about is the quality of the food. It's not about the choice, which is huge when you consider the country's precarious supply situation (a liter of milk currently costs 7 euros there), no, it's about the method of preparation. Every dish, whether boiled, fried or fried, was cooked “to death”. Rock-hard grilled chicken pieces, soggy spaghetti, etc. It's probably more due to the cooking skills of the employees than the quality of the food. So if that were improved I wouldn't have anything to complain about. I loved being there!

A very good place to rest and have a wonderful time, especially because of the quality of treatment from all the workers.

If you don't know what it is look it up.
Was sick last few days of our vacation. 2 weeks on and a round of testing I have a bacterial infection.
I don't get the 5* reviews and return customers here. Rooms are old & tired, water doesn't drain when you shower, cracked tiles, paint peeling off the tub, sockets hanging off the wall, bland or salty food, dogs roaming the grounds, cats around your feet and legs in the dining room, birds & their feces in the dining room (look up at the rafters over the dessert/meat/cheese area), pool not cleaned for days & days, has missing tiles from pool floor. Grass & trees are maintained well.
Lots of elderly guests here who it would seem just want some sun & peace & quiet. Entertainment staff? Not sure where they spend their days? No pool volleyball despite a net being up 24/7, only poolside game was Bingo.
Will not be returning to this resort.

A beautiful hotel complex (about 50 minutes from Varadero airport) with everything your heart desires. Nice rooms, we were 20 m from the beach, great food... there is only all-inclusive, and if you like drinks 24 hours a day without and with alcohol. Lots of entertainment and beach as far as the eye can see. Water temperature in February about 25 degrees.
If you travel, take enough euros (or any other hard currency) in cash with you, but only (small) bills, ....people live on tips and the card payment systems are unfortunately almost always "broken" and you want cash. We were able to pay cash everywhere with euros. It's not a cheap holiday but the costs are a little cheaper than in Germany.
Excursions are more expensive in the hotel but are insured... (a privately booked day trip with a vintage car with driver and a German-speaking tour guide for you alone approx. 170-200€)
If you travel there you will find this great hotel complex, a wonderful green island with very friendly people but a struggling economic system. So be sure to take everything you personally need with you! Hair wash and chocolate are very well received as small gifts.
Book a tourist SIM card for your cell phone from Germany and pick it up at the airport in Cuba. Then you have 4G almost across the entire island. WiFi is widely available but often slow. All the usual services on the cell phone ran without any problems.

A clear recommendation for this hotel and your vacation in Cuba, we would love to come back!!!

I really enjoyed my three-day stay after a tour there. The complex has a very nice beach, the employees are all very friendly and helpful. The supply problems that sometimes occur in Cuba are present, but are not important for my assessment because no one locally has any influence on them.

My first time in Cuba was made special by the management and staff at the resort. Nothing was too much trouble, and they looked after all the guest. It was meant to be a one-off holiday of a lifetime, but I might be going back in a couple of years. If I do, it will be to the resort.

Top vacation. Great food. Class service

We stayed at Memories Jibacoa the first week of February and it was very nice but cold and windy. the food was plentiful and good but the beef and pork was tough but tasty also. the buffet was great and the a la Carte restaurants were nice, the service was very good but the food was not much better than the buffet dining. The evening entertainment was first rate, very professional! We would certainly return, but in a warmer month.

Very nice hotel great Food the Maid are the Best.

Good hotel for a few days at the end of the trip

Hotel in a magnificent location, this is its big asset. Green with the hills behind it and blue. Incredible spot to explore the coral reef from the beach. Accessible and relatively safe, even if you are not a great freediver ;). The site is truly a real gem. Excellent pastries and cold meats, every day. Very friendly staff overall, with a few exceptions to the service at the buffet tables. Older customers it is true, for my part a guarantee of calm and respect. No rude awakenings at night by very alcoholic customers here. Beware of beach fleas at nightfall, they can be quite terrible, fortunately the permanent health service was able to treat the itching with patience and understanding.
3rd vacation here.

Excellent resort, excellent food offering and calm atmosphere
