A great beach is the highlight of this resort, but it can be a bit of a walk to get there depending where your room is located. As with many resorts in Cuba, the food is just OK at best. The rooms are basic and could use a refresh. This hotel is a budget property in Cuba so one must lower their expectations when visiting the country. This resort is just a taxi ride away from the historical parts of town.

I booked this holiday through Air Canada Vacations, which I will never do again, as in a very non transparent way it was not disclosed to possible clients (like myself) that this resort was under renovations, and the half of it where we (the guests) were checked in was in a derelict shape.
Air Canada Vacations should never sell a vacation in such a run down, unsafe, resort. Prone to health issues.
This resort shows 4 stars on its website, but in reality, it shouldn’t even have a permit to be open to the public. Poor management, poorer client service, unwilling, lazy staff (not waiting on you if not receiving money or presents, letting you to wait forever, even for small things like salt and pepper, which they had to bring to the table, etc.), unprofessionalism in handling and/or solving (rather not solving) situations such as safety for the guests or providing a healthy environment.
I had to change three rooms since the next day following my arrival, all being utterly smelly, ran down, rust all over the place, balcony doors without locks, rooms doors that were either not locking or unlocking, the safe in the first room didn’t work, disgusting shower curtains full of mold and other unidentifiable dirt. I had to walk to the reception many times (no phones in any of my rooms or of guests’ I met there) to ask for new room cards (and this happened to others as well, as I have noticed while walking to my room).
I came back from the beach one afternoon, and my door was unlocked in a remote building (all of us were hosted in the further half of the big resort grounds, as the half closer to the reception and the dining room was under renovations, so it took around 12-15 minutes to walk to the reception).
Missing lights in the hallways in my building, on a resort full of extremely drunk people, not to mention the scary local renovation workers omnipresent day and night on the premises and ostentatiously starting or making funny noises at women while walking nearby. One evening, while returning to my building after dinner, I almost failed to step on a snake curled at the foot of the stairs.
I went to file a complaint after I found my room door unlocked, and what should have been an easy thing to do, ended in being very unprofessionally dealt with by the Client Service employee who has bluntly refused to do her job.
I would not recommend this resort to anyone: bad service, bad food and drinks (I lost 2 kilograms in the two weeks there, as that food was inedible), unfriendly/unwelcoming staff (faking friendliness only if they got tips/presents), a total lack of quality in everything, not even some traces of it, a total unprofessionalism in serving the guests and/or solving the daily many problematic situations form the part of their so-called Customer service.

It has beautiful spaces, the beach is beautiful and the workers are very friendly. The rooms are a bit old, the food is not luxurious, but it is acceptable.

There are Beautiful beaches with friendly staffs,everything is perfect like drinks ,foods ,every night there is program like salsa dance and also location is fine and easy access to airport and downtown,I suggest to consult with Christopher and Daniel

Our stay at this hotel was very enjoyable. We spent our days on the beach or joining in the pool activities and our nights dancing. We met a few staff members who were very friendly and made the visit memorable. Thanks to Lorena for her high energy and beautiful personality

The Good:
The resort has a charm to it, and Wilson from the sports bar is one of the kindest and friendliest employees on the resort.
The food was ok, but there was one chef who would always cheerfully sing in the buffet, making the whole experience that much better. They are really trying their best to accommodate given the circumstances.
The Bad:
Rooms lacked toilet paper until the second or third day. Some food was not kept at a warm temperature in the buffet, but was generally ok otherwise.
Conclusion:
Memories Varadero is a great spot to come for a vacation and are looking to experience the cuban people and culture.
