Our Opnion

Great resort to stay in Varadero. The staff are very pleasant and friendly. However, there have been issues reported regarding the check-in process (communication problems and long wait times). However, this does not necessarily take away from the experience. Great food choices for both the buffet and the a la carte restaurants. The bars are also really great as well. They are not stingy on how they pour their alcohol! Amazing pool service as well. The dreaded 'towel game' is avoided at this hotel, as most of the staff would go out of their way to ensure that you get a lounger. Amazing beach views.

Never ever I will come again not only to this resort. Never ever I will go again to Cuba at all.
This garbage not even worth my time to write review.

Wonderful place and great stuff

Everything was nice but the catering was lacking.

Stayed here with other family. Staff goes above and beyond. Entertainment team went above and beyond to make us feel special. Bartenders always served with a smile. Can’t wait to return next year

The rooms were very unkempt, door handles falling off, safe hardly worked, patio door barely opened and the wind coming through a closes door made loud noises all night. They won’t offer clean towels( take dirty towels and leave you with nothing at all) and half a roll of toilet paper per day. That was after multiple gifts and cash to the cleaners. Meat was leathery and overcooked, so we ate mostly stirfry and bread. I will never return, terrible experience.

We stayed at the royal service side during the middle of February and it was good

the beach and swim up room is the reason i would go back to this resort tomorrow if i could

Of course nothing is perfect

The food and the indoor plumbing 😬
It was just kinda bad
Not awful
But not good

this opinion is from a very high standard of living that i have gotten use to and have honestly taken for granted

Now a days i just push buttons and goods & services will literally appear at my front door within a small amount of time

So It can be a little scary for those not expecting that big of a cultural shock when travelling to another part of the world that is suffering hardships we just cant relate to

Some people will enjoy this place and not wanna leave

(i know i was one of them)

whenever i talk to people about vacationing in Cuba they have either been over 5 times and plan on going back again

or they went once and will never return

Cuban resorts are an overall gamble

So be honest with yourself and ask “do I see the glass half full or half empty?”

Can you make the best of the situations that will confront you head on ?

adventure is all about seeing new things and getting outside comfort zone

to the people of Varadero, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with me, a little piece of Cuba will always be in my heart 💞🇨🇺

We stayed at the paradisus Princesa Del Mar for our honeymoon and we had a blast! We took private car from the airport to the resort with authentic Cuban tours. Highly recommend this as your room most likely won’t be ready until after 4pm. This gives you time to get to the hotel change into some comfortable clothes and check out the resort. Since we arrived early we were waiting for our room and were greeted by Hector at front desk. This man is a true gentleman. He knows how to engage, listen and solve problems all with a smile on his face. Hector you are a true professional and I have no doubt Melia sees what they have with you. While hector assured us once the room is ready he will let us know he gave us wristbands to access the buffets the resort. We went to check out the lunch buffet as it opened at 12:30 after lunch we returned and we met Lily who was the manager on duty. She was an angel. She greeted us and welcomed us on our honeymoon and advised she would get our room ready and mentioned special events planned for us during our stay. We asked her if she could get us some reservations at some of the higher end a la Cartes and she came through on day 2 seeing my wife and I in the lobby and told us she got us a table at the hill top the same night. We really appreciated this gesture and my wife and I were excited for the dinner reservations for the rest of the week.

There was plenty of food at the buffet and options nobody can go hungry. We sipped on mojitos during the day and Jameson in the evenings. The Sakura hibachi restaraunt is a blast and the food was very close to home. We went to marseille and got 2 beef steaks on rice with our own spices and it tasted similar to the home grilled steak. We dined at the hilltop twice. The service at all the restaurants was top notch and the piano player at the hilltop, and the piano bar singer were so talented! We would love to come back just to listen to his voice again.

The beach: stunning , beautiful walk endless miles in the sand on this dreamy beach no bugs, lots of chairs, bring your bubba and get comfortable. Bring a shawl as it does get breezy on the beach.

We spent a lot of time at the lobby bar which Amaury was working hit butt off! He was making sure everyone gets their drink orders quickly and efficiently we noticed this as he moved effortlessly table to table with full drink orders on his tray. Cappachino over the coffee in the lobby bar. They will have piano player in the lobby bar also with a very talented local singer. Don’t by shy grab your partner and dance like no one’s watching.

This was my 4th time in Cuba and 2nd time at this resort and I cannot wait to go back. We met a lot of very likeminded people who were also had visited this property before which made the trip much more enjoyable.

The hotel complex is really very beautiful and the path to and from the beach is really beautiful! However, there are a few things you should keep in mind here: You should definitely bring your own towels, as bathroom towels are changed once a week. Unfortunately that really doesn't work. The buffet is generally OK given the country's conditions. However, the waiting times for freshly prepared things such as meat, pasta or omelettes are unfortunately far too long. Unfortunately, the public toilets in the hotel complex are also getting old and the toilets in the pool area in particular have a very unpleasant smell. If you want to have your laundry washed, this is only possible with credit card payment! Despite all this, we had a lovely time here with the beautiful beach as a highlight

The best was the service and the people who work there but the hotel had nothing. And less at the level of a 5 star. It looks more like a 2 star in Benidorm than a 5 star in Cuba.
He is saved by his deputy director Javier Patrón, who was attentive and aware of all our shortcomings in the accommodation, something that his director did not do, who did not even perform the welcome and greeting functions while New Year's Eve was celebrated there, and his workers who They give everything for the service.

I hope we will meet again with Javier's good work in another hotel soon, but I am afraid it will not be in this accommodation.
Lacking and without resources.

I stayed here with a group of girls for my friends bachelorette min mid February, we had an amazing time!
There were some issues due to shortages that were experienced throughout Cuba and the disco was closed which we didn't know, however the amazing staff made our trip!

Daniel at the front desk was so great, he did what he could to make our check in and overall stay smooth and he didn't laugh at me too much when I kept demagnetizing my room key (dont keep them next to your cell phone)

We spent most of our days on the beach and got to know Richard and Maday whom worked the beach bar! These two made every day so much better! They are kind and welcoming. If they weren't there it would have been a much different experience. I would go back just to visit these amazing humans. Thank you Richard and Maday, you really made our trip so special!

It is like the name states it : a paradise !
The beaches are beautiful, the main lobby is also splendid the activities are a bunch of fun but what made our trip unforgettable was the fun we had with Carlos ! He has a way to entertain that sticks with you ! I got home and continued trying to practice his dance moves !!
Come on lazy people don’t be lazy 😂🤣😅

Wonderful hotel, from the moment you arrive you are welcomed at the reception with a nice smile and a delicious welcome cocktail, a wide variety of food and drinks, excellent entertainment activities. The professionalism of all their workers is excellent, I would like to congratulate Anisley at the reception, thanks to her our vacation was the best. In the lobby, Geovani is wonderful, to all the workers, thank you thank you

Wonderful vacation, thank you to the entire reception team and porters, they are all very professional and willing to help with everything you need Anisley, Denis, Héctor, the best of the best without a doubt. Great variety of food and drinks, magnificent entertainment activities.

Magnificent vacation, from the moment you arrive the porters greet you with an incredible smile, then you arrive at the reception and they surprise you with an incredible welcome, a delicious cocktail while you enjoy an incredible explanation about all the hotel services, thanks to Anisley and all her Reception team are wonderful. The variety of food and drinks is good, highlighting the Geovany service in the lobby. Without a doubt we will return to this wonderful Resort

Great hotel. We are currently here staying in the Royal area.

Service is awesome, everyone working here is amazing. There are shortages as it is Cuba so that's to be expected, but everyone here gives 110% effort to help guests.

The only complaint is there are mosquitos, so do bring some Raid to spray your room and some "Off" to help keep the little buggers off your legs and arms.

The beach is amazing, white sand and flat so easy to walk. The water is crystal clear and you can walk out hundreds of feet.

Mosquitos are native to the tropics and I come from NW Ontario where mosquitos are small hummingbirds, so I cannot give it 4 stars. 5 star it is.

I would stay again if we come back to Cuba.

Just got back from staying here for a week. Overall was good trip. Did rain one day which is unfortunate but no one can control the weather. On arrival our toilet didn’t work and shower was broken we let front desk know and they said they’d have someone come repair but didn’t say it would be the next day. Everything was fixed though. Seen the air conditioning is spotty at times not sure if it fully works. Internet is good most of the time sometimes it cuts out. Food was fine always found something to eat. Realize there are shortages so may not have everything. We experienced egg and butter shortage they were available a few days but not always. Waiter at The cigar bar always made great drinks between there and the snack bar where safe choices for drinks being made good. The lobby bar always made them way too strong. Went to 2 a la carts Mediterranean which was good other than the white cake they had butter shortage and I think for the icing they used margarine as a substitute was just way over powering. Italian we did twice. Food was good again desert was kinda bland. Went on 2 excursions the boat adventure which is a hour boat drive. Was nice day we went out. Sent most the time just driving in the ocean. Thought might’ve been more canals but was good broke up the day. Then went on a private tour to matanzas. If you join the resort Facebook group people have mentioned this tour. Was good tour got to see lots. Did find the tour guide kinda pushed for us to tip everyone which was kinda annoying. But would recommend it. There’s a bus that goes around Varadero it’s double decker you can go to the local mall or down town Varadero. $5 usd for the whole day definitely recommend. Pool was always clean the whole resort was clean. Beach was nice little bit of seaweed but was nice beach. Would recommend resort to anyone looking to go to Varadero

Worst resort i have ever been too

We are there now!
3rd time at this location. We don't miss anything, the staff is super nice!
Lots of entertainment and music. Lots of “micro” shows in the lobby.

Beautiful quality shows every evening.
Food: overall good. Buffet with lots of choice and several good à la carte restaurants. We're not on the royal service side this time but we're having an excellent stay!

We recommend it and we will definitely return!

This is a difficult review for me as I want to acknowledge the hardships locals encounter to meet “standards” of international travellers. I rated one star as we arrived at hotel at 130pm but check-in in was at 4pm. We waited 3 1/2 hours after that and finally got our room at 7pm. Dirty towel hanging in the bathroom and only 2 bath towels. No hand towels or face cloths. No coffee. No tea. No sugar etc. It’s not really a big deal but waiting all that time for a room that is sort of ready was disappointing.
I’m most upset with the tour operator that sold this vacation package. The website should have been updated noting country wide shortages.
Frustrated but also thankful to enjoy the awesome weather here. Part of the experience here in Cuba is adapting to what is not within your control.
Update: we were able to upgrade to Royal Service the following day thanks to the advice of a fellow traveller.

Would love to come back some day! Haha our agent definitely could have prepared us better for the trip but that's on me for not researching:)
