"We were at Riu Bachata for week. I was a bit disappointed by this hotel posted as 5 stars, it's not. The room was nicely decorated but smelly and with little cockroaches, especially in the washroom. I had to leave the lights open over night as my 2 kids were terrified by them in the morning.
The food was good, lots of variety and well cooked and displayed. The beach was ok, not as great as other places we have been before. Very little strip of sand and the ocean's ground was rocky. The entertaiment on the beach though was great. Entertaiment in general was very very good. The shows at night were very good, occassionally not appropriate for young kids, but they had separate shows for the little ones which were very good.
Overall it was good, I would rate the hotel as a 3*.
Would go back if it wasn't for those cockroaches and the smell in the room." [...]

"Overall this hotel is awesome. The rooms were great, with mini bars that are always full. The scenary is beauitful and always clean. The beach is great with lots of shade if needed. The food and restuarnts were awesome. They have a buffet with plently of food to choose from everyday which offers a huge selection for those who are picky. The staff is awesome and the entertainment was lots of fun. Seen some amazing dancers and actors who are very talented.
We had our destination wedding at this resort and opted out of using the gazeboo over looking the ocean only because it is really windy up there. The day of the wedding was no wind and very hot. haha We had a beautiful beach wedding with 42 guests. It was lots of fun and the scenary for taking pictures at this resort is amazing. I definitly have the most beautiful wedding photos comparison to the usual weddings in my city. You can see some of our wedding photos by going to www.destinationwedding.amorephotography.ca. We brought our own photographer but the resort offers a great package a photographers that are pretty good. " [...]

"We were not terribly impressed with some of the staffing issues at the resort - particularly the entertainment staff. They were not very professional and in our time there we noted on several occasions the amount of alcohol they were consuming, which even ended in a fist fight between 2 of the staff on one occasion. The evening shows seemed to be all about them as a group in that they were performing for themselves, and not for the enjoyment of the patrons - many of the activities they ran were amateurish at best, with a focus on attracting single members of the opposite sex.
The a la carte restaurants were not what we had expected given that we had stayed at other resorts and found these to be the best dining - very disappointed. The other main disappointment was that even though there was a policy of non-reservation of sun loungers, at 9:00 a.m. it was impossible to find a sun lounger around the pool - even though there would be only 30 to 40 people present at the pool, all of the sun loungers were reserved with either towels or articles of clothing left on them. When this was bought to the attention of the staff, it was greeted with a shrug of the shoulders. Lastly, management staff seemed to be non-existent at any time during our visit - in the whole time we were there we saw a total of 5 management staff out and around the complex. Overall, we could not give this resort more than a 3 on a scale of 1-5." [...]

"This was my first visit to an All Inclusive resort and my first time to Dominican. The hotel was visually beautiful and appealing. The rooms were very spacious and clean and nicely decorated with marble in the bathroom and mahogany furniture and moldings in the rooms. We were travelling with 2 other couples and a single friend and all were pleased the accomadations. The 2 and 3 story units were a pleasant surprise the way they were nestled amongst palm trees and linked by interlocking pathways. I much prefer this layout to an upright hotel with many floors. It was a nice walk back to your room every night outdoors. The food was fantastic with many different choices every night. The a la carte's were ok but nothing extra special, no better than the buffet. The best way to do a buffet I think is to pick a different entree every night instead of a little bit of everthing, then yoiu are not eating the same thing every night. I figured that out the 5th day. I don't know what people are talking about when they say there are too many trees on the beach!! It was beautiful. Lots of shade if you wanted it, and enough sun too. The staff was very nice and there where acitvities planned all day long. The nightlife was fair. The shows were sum what similiar but with different costumes. It would be nice if the disco opened earlier. After all day in the sun and a late dinner it was hard to stay up until 11:30 to go to the disco. We were ready to dance after dinner and into the night but got tired waiting for it to open. I loved the Caribean street of shops. There were many of them there and the prices were very reasonable and you could barder. This hotel was beautiful and I would definately make a trip back. Enjoy." [...]
