This was our third All Inclusive experience in the Caribbean, and probably our least favorite. The resort is beautiful, and fairly well kept. The rooms are nice. The beach is large and there are several pools. One side had two pools and was quieter and more chill. The other side was the party side. The food was okay. But as a health conscious, plant based earing family, food was not well marked and it was difficult for my family to find food to eat that was healthy and satisfying. The available snacks outside of meals was just nachos with stale chips. Not great if you have kids. 50% of the staff (servers, bar tenders, cleaners, entertainment, etc) were amazing and friendly and helpful. The other 50% were the opposite. The entertainment was a bit light, scattered and at times very disorganized. If you are not a big drinker and don't want to sit in a pool or by the ocean the entire time, you may get bored. The activities on the resort App do not always match the actual schedule, that was a little frustrating.
Book your excursions online with an outside source. We saved hundreds of dollars doing that instead of through the resort.
Overall, Jamaica was the dirtiest place we have visited. (The country, not the resort) Locals everywhere were vultures, we did less shopping because of how badly they harrass and follow you and beg you to buy their stuff. The highlight of our trip was Dunn's River Falls and Blue Hole!

This hotel is a very well-kept, updated facility with a nice, clean enjoyable beach that is more family-friendly than not.

The food is decent, but the buffet gets old after a while. It’s hard to get a reservation for the specialty restaurants so book them as soon as possible. Our favorite was the Italian restaurant. The steak restaurant was meh. We didn’t get to try two of the restaurants because hey, they’re closed on random nights.

They do not have any “snack shacks” to drop by and get food at while lounging by the pool except for the grill, and there is always a massive line there. Only food options are grilled chicken, burgers and sides like rice and beans. No food is available between 10 pm-7 am, 10:30 am-12 pm, and the grill is the only food available 12-5 pm. They do not have room service, so we spent a lot of our days on a strict eating schedule or trying to sneak food out without getting yelled at.

The beds are rock hard, and my husband and I couldn’t sleep. If we did, we woke up in excruciating pain. The hotel’s solution was to put two blankets under the sheets, which basically did nothing. We paid $600+ per night and now we need to schedule chiropractic appointments to recover from our vacation, and this is disappointing and infuriating to me.

While this resort is catered more toward families, it also isn’t. The water park and splash pad are at the far south end of the resort, and you are not allowed to bring in food or drinks. This is also aggravating because there’s no food or drinks nearby.

Finally, the staff. The majority of the staff seemed so irritated by us. I would get serious attitude by the wait staff for asking for a hot tea outside of breakfast hours. I got nasty comments at the towel return kiosk. And I basically felt like I was a thorn in their side the whole time, so I just stopped asking for items or assistance.

Overall, I don’t think I’d recommend this resort if you’re looking for good customer service, comfortable beds or access to food at an all-inclusive resort.

Great food..... superb atmosphere.... kids pool separate from adults pool. It's a great family hotel, customer service excellent 👌. Rooms spacious with fully stocked mini bar. Night entertainment very entertaining. I could go on and on and on. But all in all it's a perfect hotel. 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

Location accessible, and easy to find👌

I only when on a daypass and it was marvelous ✨️

Staff was amazing, beach was wonderful, well landscaped, fun activities, amazing value. 10/10 recommend

Having stayed at other Riu facilities, I dared to stay at the RIU Ocho Rios and it fell short of my expectations. Today is day #1 and we wre made to sit outside for almost 5 hr before getting checked in. Keys were finally handed over at 4:50pm. The Supervisor was rude while other staff members were simply short fused for asking why we couldn't be checked in despite our over 4 hour wait. The excuse that the room was being cleaned just didn't make sense too. Pretty sure house keeping does not spend that long getting a room ready. Personally, I would not return here. RIU in general has been great vacation spots and perhaps some Ocho Rios staff need communication training.

It has been the worst experience my family and I have had in an all-inclusive hotel so far. We have traveled to many places in the Caribbean and they have all been perfect but this hotel is a disaster. The quality and variety of food is very poor. Things run out and are not replaced. For a week I've been wanting to have something as simple as natural yogurt for breakfast and despite coming at different times I've never been able to do it. In the restaurants they made us queue to sit and kept us waiting for a long time DESPITE having made the corresponding reservation. The room smelled bad and the sheets were damp all the time, there is a lot of humidity and they don't use dehumidifiers. During the morning you can hear the staff shouting and slamming doors, they are very noisy and are very unfriendly. You say "thank you" or "please" or ask them for things nicely and they don't even look at you or answer you. The slides were closed. The sauna and Jacuzzi were also closed. The gym does not have music or in the pool they only play music for specific activities and not to mention the cleaning of the rooms is very poor. The housekeeping lady made our bed and sprinkled some perfume in the air. That's all they do. They don't clean the floor and our room was always full of sand and dirt on the floor.
Without a doubt we will not recommend it nor will we ever stay at a Riu hotel again.

It’s a beautiful location and the resort is kept spotless. Wifi is strong. Food is excellent and there’s lots of variation. Ocean is steps away with a great little reef for excellent snorkelling. Jerk hut is delicious. Great entertainment. Lots of beach chairs for everyone. Never a problem getting a spot and we visited on March break

Cons
Our room smelled moldy. Water park/play area closed on Tuesdays and doesn’t open until 10 am, pretty late when you’ve got small kids. Pool closes early at 6. This resort calls itself a 24hr all inclusive but your options are limited if the main restaurant isn’t open - the sports bar offers old sandwiches and questionable leftovers from the buffet. Lunch is supposedly until 5 but after 3pm it gets moved to another spot and there’s only a few items left to choose. Icecream only at lunch and dinner.

Majority of staff were very friendly but there were a few very unhappy employees who a)ignored you b) stared you down for crossing their path. Wasn’t a great feeling.

Would I recommend this hotel? Yes, it’s still a great place and there’s something for everyone. Bring a bunch of $1’s and $5’s for better service.

Gorgeous facilities & excellent local service but Customer Service by the investing company is rubbish. If you wish 2 start & end your vacation with stress based on the incorrect information provided & lack of professionalism ...RIU is your best bet

Lovely beach. Friendly staff. Good food.

This was my first time at RIU Ocho Rios, and it exceeded my expectations.

Rooms are outdated and small. Food selection is mostly American and often cold. There could be more authentic and local cuisine on the menu. Great staff and very friendly.

A wonderful vacation is over. This place is a paradise. Beautiful beach, very well-kept hotel complex, clean rooms, food was always fresh and tasty. Drinks all very good. Some of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Sometimes a bit annoyed with people.
But everything is ok.
There were a few little things here and there that could be improved, but we would definitely come back. Also great with children.
It was a relaxing and special Caribbean vacation. When you go diving you see lots of beautiful colorful fish. 😍❤️🇯🇲

Junk gift shop charged 21 usd $ for a pack of smokes and continued to try and rip us off for some junk my daughter broke 0 stars rip off every where you turn at this place some new rip off or scammer

10/10 experience. the food, drinks, staff, location, everything just went above and beyond we were so impressed and cannot wait to come back! do not hesitate to come to the riu ochos rios u will not regret it:)

The Riu Ocho Rios Hotel disappointed across the board. The lack of cleanliness, the chaotic service experience and the general disarray raise doubts about the deserved 5 stars. It was unfortunate to see how the hotel did not meet the expected standards and simply appeared dirty in many places. An experience that was far from a pleasant stay. Since I work in the travel industry myself, I am forced to share my bad experience with my colleagues and of course with my customers.

This was my worst experience in Jamaica so far. The service was horrible. If you did not have 1 or 5 dollars in your hand to tip every worker you would be getting a crazy amount of attitude. Second 2 out of the 7 days we were there we let room service in and noticed a good amount of our medicine was stolen and my mothers pack of cigarettes were also stolen. The Food was probably the best part of that vacation and it still sucked. you had to make a reservation for every restaurant other than the buffet. The restaurants only seated around 100 people or less and there is about 900 people in the resort and only 4 restaurants. It was impossible to get reservations unless you had reserved seats before even getting on your plane to Jamaica.

We stayed at the Riu Ocho Rios for 10 days at the end of November 2023.
The hotel complex is incredibly large, which is great for collecting steps, but not so much for getting somewhere quickly. We booked a room with a sea view at the travel agency last year and initially received one on the 1st floor with a view of the pool and palm trees, which did not meet my expectations. We then spoke to Tui and the reception staff and were given a room on the 3rd floor. Not a direct view of the sea, but better than before. However, it took forever and resulted in some complaints from me until our suitcases finally arrived in our room.
Basically, the staff at the front desk is unfriendly and uncooperative, especially when you ask if the room can be decorated for a 30th birthday.
The rooms themselves were clean and tidy, the balcony was big enough. There were no complaints here.
There are an incredible number of Americans in this hotel who don't know how to behave and everything is geared towards them, be it the food or the drinks.
Food topic: as described above, very American-oriented, meaning too sweet, too fatty, too much. Sorry, but I know the actually “freshly squeezed” juices at the breakfast buffet from other Riu hotels. Here, additional syrup was poured into each juice so that the Americans also get their calories nicely. The choice of food itself was very poor, there was the same thing almost every day. Also not hygienically perfect. In the end I got food poisoning and then lay flat and only ate bare potatoes until the end of the holiday (even they were in bare fat).
What is also very annoying is that smoking is banned in almost the entire hotel, although smoking weed is tolerated.
There are just 3 smoking areas, which are very far apart due to the size of the hotel. We still smoked on our balcony because as a smoker I don't understand that people are smoking grass next to me and I should give up my cigarette.
The hotel shop is incredibly expensive, so a tip for anyone who wants to buy something there: don't.
The hotel beach, however, was one of the most beautiful.
It was clean, the water was clear and there were enough loungers.
You looked for umbrellas in vain, you had to see if you could get a spot under a tree.
All in all, our stay was okay. If I ever come back to Jamaica at some point, I wouldn't stay at this hotel.

Resort was nice for my first time in Jamaica. The staff was friendly and helpful so thank you for that. The rooms seem dated and had a mildew smell like the vents needed to be clean. My passport pages would wilt from the heavy room moisture. All be sure to check your mini bar for cleanliness....my gold rum had three little bugs in it.

Great place for a vacation overall. I would recommend a visit here to experience the venue and the amenities it offers. Food, service, and entertainment are great. I would say the only negative thing is the distance to the location from the airport is the most horrible thing, but aside from that, check it out. I did have an issue with the a/c in my room, but they got it fixed. Be sure to check out everything there because there is plenty to do on property for all ages.
