Very nice hotel, good stay with a spectacular view from the room.

The hotel has 3 buildings . They assigned me at Bay building which is empty and smell so bad. I couldn’t sleep because of smell and noise from the bar live music. I had to change the room in the morning to another building. Small bath, very limited light in the room very outdated hotel and I don’t recommend this hotel.

We return regularly to this wonderful high-quality historical resort

Hotel is fine... we only stayed two nights and the room in the Bay Tower was average. Easy walk to shops and restaurants with a nice common space atmosphere. What really set this off is two nights in a row a party/wedding took place in an area directly outside the southside of the tower. Needless to say, we weren't informed about the events at check in and one night were subjected to loud dance music until 10p, the other night we returned to the room at 1030p so we didn't hear if there was music. Granted, for some that's not late but if you happened to be in your room it was far from relaxing...stressful actually. A simple disclaimer at check in would have been sufallowing us to decide our fate.

Everybody was super friendly.

The hotel is a bit outdated and the rooms feel like glorified motel rooms, without much care and thought put into planning and designing them.

The rooms smelled a bit mildewy and the balcony could use a cleaning and a hammock. The ceiling on the balcony had paint coming off with mold underneath.

Screen doors would be nice to sleep with open doors, otherwise it’s just noisy AC sounds all night.

The best thing about this place are the ocean views in my opinion.

But honestly, for the price, I would say don’t bother, there are nicer BnBs and other places available for half the price that feel much nicer.

This hotel needs a renovation, and stay. It feels like going into the 1980s, and not the good parts.

Great old resort. Well maintained and classic. Good staff nice pool and awesome saltwater lagoon. Easy walking to many restaurants, bars , and shopping.

Thank you for easy check-in. Mandi!
Gabe bellman for assisting our luggage.. thanks again.

Perfect location.

Love Kona this resort is excellent and directly on the beach 🏖️ 🥰

Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but the rooms were really dated, and overpriced for how old they were.

Really old bathrooms, and quite dated wood paneling. Obviously old burba carpet, and hallways that still smelled like it was a smoking floor from years ago.

That being said, the lobby was really attractive, and the view from the bar was beautiful.

The food was pretty good. Nothing to scream about, but we went back to the bar/restaurant a few times.

Decent enough beer selection, and the wait staff was always very friendly.

We would consider going back, but honestly, if it cost half as much.

Hawaii's bubble has gotta burst soon, because no one is gonna be able to travel there soon.

Enjoyed my stay. Rooms are dated but adequate. I really like the lagoon

This hotel is way past its prime. The building and rooms are very outdated and low quality for the price they are charging. Service was okay, and the location is okay, but there are loud bars very close to the northwest building that you can clearly hear from your room. I would pass on this hotel if you have other options.

We paid $250/night for a basic room with double beds, and it was nowhere near the quality that price would suggest. The room was closer in quality to a $70 room in a best Western anywhere on the mainland. We came from Waikiki where we paid $350 a night for a room that was significantly better in every possible way.

The service staff were nice in friendly, but they seriously messed up our room. When we first showed up they gave us keys for a room that was STILL OCCUPIED! That is completely unacceptable both for us and for the lady who was extremely surprised to see two strangers entering her room. We brought this up to the desk and they promptly gave us a new room, but this was still a huge safety and service issue.

Great location and awesome views

Great Location, Disappointing Experience: A Mixed Review of Kona Royal Resort

My stay at Kona Royal Resort was a tale of two experiences, with the location standing out as the highlight. Situated perfectly with a full view of the ocean and within walking distance to restaurants and shops, the setting couldn't have been more idyllic. However, the charm of the location was dampened by several disappointments during my stay.

Regrettably, the staff at the resort did not match the warmth of the Hawaiian sun. Their demeanor was lacking in friendliness, which detracted from the overall hospitality expected from such an establishment. Moreover, the room provided was a letdown. Upon entering, a musty and damp smell greeted me, triggering symptoms of discomfort including a scratchy throat, sneezing, and watery eyes. This persisted throughout my three-night stay, significantly impacting my enjoyment of the trip.

Adding to the discomfort was the ongoing construction, indicating possible efforts to address these issues. However, the inconveniences caused by the construction further detracted from the overall experience.

Additionally, it's worth noting that the quality of accommodation varied between the two towers. My stay in the south tower fell short of expectations compared to the reported superior conditions in the north tower.

In summary, while the Kona Royal Resort boasts an unbeatable location, the lackluster service, subpar room conditions, and ongoing construction hindered the overall experience. Three stars are awarded primarily for the exceptional location, but improvements in hospitality and room quality are necessary to enhance guest satisfaction.

We stayed here for one night and it was fine for that. Room was decently sized and more updated than we anticipated based on other reviews. There was active renovation ongoing in the lagoon tower during our stay. We liked being able to walk to other restaurants. The lagoon towers balcony railings are one bar and a little low compared to the other tower we saw which had a three bar railing. For the lagoon tower, loading and unloading the car was not convenient and the carts are only available for the bellhops to use.

The Royal Kona Resort is a beautiful resort. We had an ocean view. All of the staff was friendly and helpful. All of the shopping and restaurants were close by. We enjoyed our stay. We would definitely recommend them to our family and friends.

Location can’t be beat. The lobby is incredible. Complimentary Mai Tai’s at check in is a good plus. King beds are not guaranteed so when we showed up we ended up having to pay an extra $60/night so we could sleep in the same bed. We had a corner king room and the view was amazing. The water pressure in the shower was some of the worst I’ve seen, and after long days outside in the saltwater, you need good water pressure. Lighting in the room was lack luster and there was only one side of the bed with an outlet.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Royal Kona Resort. The rooms were clean and the staff was very friendly. I stayed in one of the larger rooms with an incredible balcony view!! Sunsets every evening!!! If visiting Kona I highly recommend staying at the Royal Kona!!!

Our customers say great things about Royal Kona resort.

Beautiful place to stay. The view is amazing from the resort. You can see the sunset and take amazing photos.
