Sandals Montego Bay Vacations

4.5 - 2529 Reviews
Montego Bay, Jamaica

Situated on 26 acres of lush tropical gardens, this exciting resort fronts the largest private white sand beach in all of Jamaica. A paradise resort boasting some of Sandals’ most lavish suites and delightfully appointed rooms, five gourmet restaurants, and much more. As the flagship resort, Sandals Montego Bay can aptly be described as vibrant and upbeat with a spirit that soars high above the rest.

The very first Sandals resort to open its doors and set a whole new bar for luxury and romance in the Caribbean, Sandals Montego Bay still continues to completely and utterly captivate couples’ hearts. Born, back in the days when only the rich and famous wintered in the tropics, the resort’s original incarnation was as the glamorous Bay Roc Hotel. A Mecca for the jet-setting crowd of that era, the Bay Roc, known for its breathtakingly exquisite beach, was designed by renowned American architect, Edward Durrell Stone, who also created New York City’s Radio City Music Hall and Museum of Modern Art.

Location: Sandals Montego Bay Resort is located on Jamaica’s largest private beach, next to the airport and 10 minutes from the center or Montego Bay.

Our Opnion

The Sandals Montego Bay is a great luxury hotel that holds a variety of top-notch amenities. There are plenty of buffet and a la carte options available and the resort is staffed by incredibly pleasant and attentive staff. There are also plenty of activities and daily entertainment. You'll never find shortage of things to do in Sandals Montego Bay! Located on the largest private beach in Jamaica, this is the original Sandals all-inclusive resort! Being close to the airport is noisy at times, but you do tend to get used to it after a couple days. This resort is a bit more lively and active compared to the Sandals Royal Caribbean which is a few minutes away. The Sandals Montego Bay resort tends to be better priced, so if you are looking for the Sandals experience but are also watching the budget, this resort or the Sandals Carlyle might be your best bet.

Wish I had known to make a reservation for Butch's using the app before arriving. Love the breakfasts at Bayside.

My husband and I went to this resort for our honeymoon. I have been trying to get in touch with Sandals' customer service to communicate with them our experience however they have been non-responsive. Prior to our stay, my husband called the resort multiple times to make several reservations and arrangements for our honeymoon, including notifying the resort that it was our honeymoon. When we arrived at our room at the resort, the honeymoon "set-up" that was promised to my husband was not there. We arrived to a bare room with no indication that it was our honeymoon, and also no sign of our luggage. We waited for 30 minutes for our luggage to even arrive to our room while we waited around, unsure of what or who we were waiting for. It was a disappointing start to a trip that was supposed to be very special for us. As the trip went on, we were extremely disappointed in the resort we chose to spend our honeymoon. Every reservation that my husband made, prior to us arriving, got messed up in some way. He booked us a candlelit dinner by the ocean, in which we were told we would be picked up from our room and escorted to our dinner. We were not given a dinner location, so we couldn't have walked there ourselves, even if we wanted to. We scheduled the dinner for 7 PM. However, 7 PM came and passed, and still no one had even come to our room. My husband had to call the front desk TWICE until finally, 30 minutes later and past sunset, someone came to pick us up. But by that time, it was completely dark out. My husband booked us massages, a deep tissue one for him and a lavender one for me. When we checked in at the spa, they confirmed his reservation and massage choices, yet when we walked into our massage rooms, they had set-up a lavender massage rather than the deep tissue massage that my husband paid extra for and had even confirmed at the front desk during check-in. When my husband told the masseuses that he booked a deep tissue massage, they both told us to undress while they checked in with the front desk regarding this. We did so, and when they came back while we are undressed and trying to relax, they are telling my husband that they have to charge him extra for the deep tissue and that he made the mistake of booking two lavender massages which was not the case. It's not very relaxing to talk about money and the prices of a pre-booked massage, during the actual massage! One of the most shocking parts of our stay was the lack of pool chairs available for guests. My husband, every single morning, had to wake up at 6 AM to reserve merely two pool chairs for us. One morning, he went at 7 AM and all of the chairs were taken up. We couldn't even sleep-in past sunrise just so we could reserve pool chairs. The kicker is, most of the chairs and bungalows that we saw were reserved by butlers were never used the entire day, and a butler even moved our personal belongings off two chairs we reserved just for his clients that never even showed up. To top it all off, the pools were freezing cold, even in the warm Jamaican weather. The food and service - it was not good. Pool service was nonexistent. Lunch service was terrible. One day, we waited an hour and a half for a salad and two quesadillas from the beach restaurant. Another day, they completely shut down the pizza place during normal lunch hours. The worst experience we had, though, was at Cucina Romana during their dinner service. I witnessed a cockroach scurry across the floor and crawl into another guest's shoe. It was revolting. Another dinner we had, at the French restaurant, we literally left without dessert because our server would disappear for 40 minutes at a time. Whenever we ordered breakfast for room service, there was always something missing - our orders were never fully right. Our honeymoon was supposed to be a special trip but Sandals Montego Bay never went out of their way to make it special, let alone to even get our few reservations correct. I would never recommend this resort to anyone and we are seeking some sort of compensation for this experience.

We just came back from Sandals Montego Bay and were extremely pleased with the hotel and their service. It started off with a couple of hiccups but Kelsey was able to get it all sorted out quickly and really made the stay enjoyable.

Sandals is always a wonderful experience.

We had an amazing time at Sandal's Montego Bay for our honeymoon. Swaby and Chaira were our butlers - they are truly masters of their craft. We never had to lift a finger the entire vacation. They anticipated our needs perfectly. We will definitely be requesting them in the future.

All of the food, service, and housekeeping was exceptional for our entire stay.

We would have never guessed that the resort was at 98% capacity - there were no lines and it didn't feel crowded. This is probably due to the service and organization of the staff.

So for the three times we have stayed at sandals locations (grand st Lucian, grand Bahamian, Montego Bay) we stayed in a butler level room. For grande st Lucian, it was amazing. Service, food, property, shows, etc. and grande Bahamian was poor service decent food.

This location however is as completely different. The property itself is great, but that about where it ends. The food you can get off the “butler elite” menu includes absolute garbage quality food. I’m not even over exaggerating here when I say I could walk to the closest mini mart and throw together higher quality food than that. The inconsistency between properties will keep us from ever booking sandals again.

On top of that, they limit the one reservation restaurant to no take out. If you don’t know, butler rooms can order restaurant food to their room. This is a huge perk and they mention nothing on the website as far as difference between resorts (for example, Royal Bahamian we DID order butches to our room). We tried to book butches twice in a 7 day trip and couldn’t.. our planner was empty and never filled out like it had been at other locations so we essentially got nothing from our butlers who kept avoiding us.

The buffet was much better than the food at most restaurants or butler elite menu. So I’d advise if you do go to this property, do NOT waste your money on butler level.

As for service, for the first 3 days we couldn’t get a call or text answered from our butlers. I called club sandals 4 times over 3 days to ask them to get my butler to call me. Aaron got slightly better but Orion did nothing special for us except a few baths. They do that at every location he was doing the bare minimum. First full day in the morning he was supposed to have our beach spot setup with champagne and he didn’t communicate anything to Aaron nor set up ANY spot. Butler phone was also dead on our arrival. They blamed it on reception which is a complete lie I know technology I know they were receiving my calls from ringing to leaving voicemails

Just overall a waste of money. We won’t ever stay at sandals again I’d rather pay for my diving and food instead of eating garbage and terrible service.

This resort has it all! Fun in the sun at its best. Unparalleled Butler service. Daily room service, fresh linen and towels for the asking.
Excellent cuisine, THE resort of choice in Jamaica!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Sandals Resort Montego Bay with my partner, and it was an unforgettable vacation experience. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality. Our butler, Kaii, provided exceptional service, ensuring that every aspect of our stay was perfect.

The entertainment at the resort was top-notch, thanks to the incredible team led by the irreplaceable Awesome Sauce. The energy and enthusiasm they brought to every performance added so much to our enjoyment. We were particularly blown away by his awesomeness that left us wanting more every night. The singer Jay Ramone incredible voice was spine tingling and reminded me of Motown greats. The DJ Delano kept the party going with his infectious beats, ensuring there was never a dull moment.

Overall, our time at Sandals Resort Montego Bay was nothing short of amazing. The combination of stunning accommodations, impeccable service, and outstanding entertainment made it a truly unforgettable vacation. We can't wait to return!

Gorgeous resort!
So close to airport nice to be at resort in minutes! So fun to watch staff and guest wave to the planes as they flew over head!
Noise of the plane is so minor and flights stop in the evening.
Newly refurbished rooms. Rooms are well appointed with coffee maker (really good coffee!)
Bed very comfortable and good size closet and generous vanity and shower.
Optional tub and shower on balcony is so nice!
Restaurant are fantastic and resort does a good job with entertainment. Lots of activities for those that want it. Plus lots of places to chill out for those that don’t.

Great experience with club sandals team- thank you Corey!
I had a group event and Anastasia was beyond fantastic and very insightful.
Christopher and Trudeann did an amazing job organizing the rooms for my group and ensuring they had a great experience!
Aaron was a butler for the day at the beach cabana- he was fabulous and attentive.
Thank you Roslyn at front desk! Even when super busy makes time with a smile!
Duncan and her team in loyalty…fantastic! I can’t say enough great things!!

The employee's were amazing. They really made the visit tremendous! Our butlers Asha and Daneesha were wonderful! The waitstaff, bar tenders, house keeping, and entertainment were always attentive and so much fun to be around. Loved this resort!

“The place where it all started” is now the place that should probably bow out gracefully. The service was mediocre and inconsistent, the food was poor and unless you have a butler room, be prepared to get up early to get a lounger close to any of the ‘very small’ pools - many of which are too cold to spend any time in. What is really frustrating is that the butlers reserve loungers that never get used by guests. This happened most days!

The buffet restaurant comprised of tough, kept-warm meat and fish. Even at the start of lunch service (7 mins after it opened) the fish was covered in a skin of sauce and was tough beyond edible. When I spoke to the server she just said ‘thanks for letting me know’. Really?!? If Sandals’ reputation was anything to go by, I would have expected ‘I am really sorry about that. Let me speak to the chef and I will get a fresh piece cooked for you’.

Unfortunately it isn’t just the buffet restaurant…. Cucina Romana took over an hour to serve us and when the spaghetti carbonara arrived, the spaghetti was al dente and the bacon may as well have been left over from breakfast it was so bad.

The seafood in Soy was the furthest from fresh and good quality that you could get - powdery and dry.

The Jerk Shack was amazing and we were so lucky that Natasha took pride in looking after customers and serving them great food. We ended up eating lunch most days there as we could be sure of what we would get. Sandals Montego Bay needs more Natasha’s.

The snack bar on the beach just seemed to be warming up food that had already been cooked and leaving it under heat lamps until a server decided to bring it to you. How can a piece of fried fish be so inedible when you are so close to the sea?!?

To cap it all off and despite the constant narrative that ‘Club Sandals are here to make your stay at Sandals an amazing experience’, they don't care about any part of your stay and make no effort to ensure that you have an ‘amazing’ stay. They couldn't even arrange our transfer to Sandals Dunns River as agreed. We sat down with them in the lounge and agreed what time we would leave but they failed to make the arrangements. Instead of saying that they had made a mistake and we would need to wait 1/2 hour, we were left sitting around with no information as they called a driver from home to come and collect us. The Club Sandals lounge is more of a work avoidance social club for Sandals employees as opposed to anything that remotely focuses on the guest experience.

We have been to many Sandals resorts and have always enjoyed the predictability and consistency. Unfortunately we definitely won’t be coming back to Sandals Montego Bay and our only hope is that our stay at Sandals Dunns River reminds of us of what is really good about Sandals.

@Chris Elliott (resort manager) - I emailed this feedback to you whilst on resort so that you had the opportunity to discuss but seven days later, you haven't followed up. That's a shame and doesn't demonstrate that Sandals really cares about their customers. You have my contact details so please do not respond to this review with a standard ‘we really value your feedback’ response when it is clear that you don't.

Great resort, good location, great views, for the most part, great service. But you know how a few bad apples can spoil the experience...ran into a bad apple. Reserving beach and pool chairs is a joke and the butler service was not as friendly as the other staff. Some of the amenities were not available and some of the advertised daily events did not take place. We looked at the positives and still enjoyed our trip with great friends.

Tan everywhere, Jan everywhere

best place I've been too!!

Room was ok, a little on the small side but you’re not there to spend hours in your room anyway. A/C worked fine. Would be nice if they had ceiling fans. Terrible birds of some sort that just scream outside all night are obnoxious so I’d suggest earplugs if you can’t fall asleep easily with those. You are literally across the street from the runway of the airport so you hear a lot of planes, but I was never bothered by it. They don’t fly super early or late. On the positive side, we were at our resort within 30 minutes of landing.
Food was the most disappointing experience. The hot food on the buffet was cold more often than not. Lunch was a CF. There was a storm the first night we got there which caused them to juggle some restaurants for several days, but they did not post any information anywhere of what was open/closed. The hours in the app don’t seem to line up with anything. Dinner was underwhelming. Just really average to below average food, portion sizes are small so plan to get appetizers with entrees. The food alone brought down our overall score.
Staff was overall positive. Like other reviews mentioned, it’s hit or miss. The housekeeping and bar tending staff were all great. We’re not huge group entertainment people, but it was definitely loud and people seemed to enjoy it.
Seating gets all claimed up quickly at the beach and pools. Unless you’re a butler service guest, expect to be hunting down somewhere or being one of those annoying people that reserves chairs at 6 am and then ignores them for 8 hours. On the positive side, towels were abundantly available.
Ultimately if the food had been better, maybe a 4 star. We just left feeling very meh and not interested in trying the Sandals brand again, especially given the cost and compared to other all-inclusive chains we’ve been to in Jamaica.

Husband and I came for our honeymoon but will not be back. We got married 3 days before arriving and just wanted to relax, this is not the place for that. If you’re looking for a relaxing tropical vacation, go to Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton. We’ve been to Jamaica 4 times but this was our first and last time at Sandals. They lost our bags so we had to wait an hour in our room for them when all we wanted to do was change and eat lunch. The rooms are insanely loud (I have a video of the bass bumping in our room if anyone is interested to see what you should expect when staying here). The beach music goes from 9am to 5pm then again in the lobby from 6 to 10pm and has the most insane bass bumping in your room all day. We like to nap between day and nighttime activities so needless to say that was impossible here. We asked to switch rooms to a quieter place, they said we can wait a day to check out of our room at 11am and then check back into another room at 4pm which leaves us 5 hours with no room during our honeymoon. How is that the only option? The lock in the room was broken upon arrival so we had to wait an hour in there for the maintenance person to finish fixing it. Once we switched rooms, our stay improved. It still takes you asking 3-4 times for anything to get done at Sandals. I waited in the lobby line for 20 mins one night to get a pen since there are none in the guest rooms. Instead of just handing me a pen, they told me they’d send one up to my room. Needless to say that never happened and I went back down the next day to ask again. Our fridge was supposed to be restocked every day but it never was. We had to call club sandals nightly to ask for a restock, sometimes 2-3 calls spanning a few hours before someone finally comes up. We booked an hour long couples massage for $400 and the first 45 mins of it they were mowing the lawn, weed wacking, and yelling right outside the spa window. I don’t recommend getting any spa treatments on Monday around noon since I guess that’s lawn care day. They asked us to bring our marriage license for the honeymoon package but never asked to see it and never did anything special for our honeymoon until my husband complained. We even called Sandals corporate to complain about the experience and the lady laughed and told us someone would call us back which of course never happened. Overall, I would recommend you stay at Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton instead of Sandals. Sandals has the same level of service as the other Jamaica resorts, but it’s 4x the price. You’re literally paying for the name and nothing else.

Sandals - feel free to not respond to this review. Instead of giving me some bs customer service response, take that time to retrain your staff to live up to the expectations that people have when spending an arm and a leg to stay here, especially for their honeymoon.

They have almost new staff and managers and training is not complete. We had a few service issues, but when we let them know what was going on it was fixed. We have gone several years and will be going back. They have changed some of the restaurants over the last year which was disappointing, but food was still good. There is no better beach anywhere.

We visited for our honeymoon. Expected 5 stars, and experienced 2 stars.

Issues:
* Balcony door - the door was almost too small for the frame, so there was a couple inches gap.
* Constant pressure to drink - my husband does not drink, and every time he ordered something with NO alcohol, he was almost shamed for it.
* Noise - we were on the second floor of a building and heard EVERYTHING. From people throwing up outside (this happened 3 times), to cat fights, employee carts going by at 2am, and the people above us moving chairs - literally every sound.
* Stray cats - I was shocked by the number of them living on the property. I heard cat fights at night, had cats walking up to me while we were eating (some with visible fleas and ringworm), and saw cats pooping ON THE BEACH and burying it in the sand we were all walking on. One pooped right by someone’s chair in the sand.
* Crows - crows kept landing on tables, and some of them had weird cysts on their legs. Didn’t make me feel like the tables were “clean” after seeing crow cysts rest on them.
* Bathroom windows - the bathroom windows did not seal. I get the use for mold control, but I wasn’t comfortable with everyone who walked by being able to hear me use the bathroom or shower. No privacy.
* Dripping AC - the AC unit dripped constantly. Every night I stepped in an ice cold puddle on my way to the bathroom because I couldn’t see it.
* Food - I have a gluten allergy, so this won’t apply to everyone. The menu did not have GF labeled; it just said “ask your server”. There weren’t many GF options either, and I ended up getting glutened very badly by the dine-in folks! I don’t recommend for those who are celiac, or have a serious allergy. I saw the staff cross contaminate my food a number of times, leading to me being unable to eat it. For dessert, the only place with any GF was the cafe and the desserts were awful - the ice cream was especially terrible. The servers were not knowledgeable about cross contamination either.
* Food quality - night 1 was amazing; after that, we were not at all impressed by the food. I think the breakfast buffet was the best meal we had each day.
* Broken outlets - none of the outlets by my side of the bed worked.
* Room service - TERRIBLE food. And they were a no-show for our breakfast order twice! We waited 1.5 hours once and they never showed.
* Limited water - they only gave us 2 bottles a day in our room; for any additional water, you had to walk down to the bars. I tried calling for extra water once and never received it. I’m pregnant, so this was extremely frustrating.
* Excursions - we did the luminous lagoon excursion. They gave no warning about potential issues with the excursion, so I was pretty shocked to get a nasty jellyfish sting, only to have the captain say “there aren’t jellyfish” and then “they don’t sting” which was false. Also way more expensive to book through the resort! Tickets were $25 through the lagoon location vs $71 per person through the resort.
* Bed - the worst pillows I have ever used.
* Travel - have an early flight? No food or coffee for you. You also get a checkout time 3.5 hours before your flight - 4:45am for us, so we could wait around in the lobby for 30 minutes until the shuttle showed up.
* Menus - online menus and restaurant hours/days of operation are wrong.
* Housekeeping - they don’t clean the soaker tubs, if they clean your room.

Pros -
* Snorkeling - the resort snorkeling was fun
* Staff - for the most part, they were friendly and helpful! We did have some experiences with rude employees, but that’s to be expected anywhere.
* Coffee - amazing!
* Resort grounds - loved all of the flowers everywhere.

Overall, for the price I paid, I expected WAY better. Had I known about these issues, I would not have spent 8k on a honeymoon with Sandals. I don’t think we will be booking with any other locations. I would have valued this trip at 2-3k maximum.

I also recommend booking your own flights. After booking, I realized I could have saved $600+ by booking with Southwest over Delta.

Spent 8 nights at Montego Bay. It was a wonderful experience! We will be returning. Staff was amazing, service was amazing, beach was amazing, entertainment was amazing. Thank you to Everton, Kevon, String Bean, Keri Ann, Baggio, Ann Marie, Romaro and all the other wonderful staff who made our vacation absolutely perfect!
Beach was beautiful and never had an issue finding chairs. Loved the drink service on the beach!
See you again soon!
