Tukan Hotel & Beach Club Vacations

4 - 4043 Reviews
Riviera Maya, Mexico

Centrally located on famous 5th Avenue in the heart of Playa del Carmen, the Tukan Hotel and Beach Club is next to restaurants, bars, night clubs and shops. The resort is set on a natural area of wild vegetation with a cenote making this hotel ideal for relaxing and pleasant stays.

Location: In Playa del Carmen on 5th Avenue, 10 minute walk to the beach, 40 minutes from the airport.

Our Opnion

The Tukan is a resort that is suited for travelers who are budget conscious and are solely looking for a place to stay that is in a prime beach location. The hotel is located very close to a stretch of beach with plenty of restaurants and entertainment centers. It can get a tad loud in this area, so the hotel would be best suited for travelers who are impartial to loud nightlife. The rooms are well-maintained and modern. There aren't many great food choices if you're looking for an all-inclusive deal. However, this is great for someone who wants to explore more of the Riviera Maya away from resort grounds.

This hotel is in a good location and close to the beach and the avenue, but our room is really outdated. Our toilet broke after using it once, there are no coverings on some of the ceiling lights and some of the towels look like they have been used so many times that they are shredded. The bathroom and closet look like they came straight out of the 70’s.

There are thick raised uneven cobblestones around the complex that make it difficult to roll suitcases (they must be carried), and some rooms are located 4 floors up, which you have to walk up stairs to get to. (No elevators) So perhaps not the best place for older folks.

The water that comes out of the faucet is indeed salty like others have said, so if you want to brush your teeth or in my case clean retainers, you will want to use the bottles of water they provide. There are no kleenex in the rooms or blowdryer for your hair. No minifridge. I thought the morning breakfast buffet across the street at Ceiba was just okay. My brother said the food looked 2 days old to him and didn’t touch it.

There are mosquitos hiding out near your door so anytime you open it then they fly in, ready to bite you. There are no mosquito screens on doors or windows.

The pool does seem to be working, as well as the jacuzzi. Street noise appeared to be a problem for many who stayed here, and at least one other person said their air conditioner did not work. Last night we were serenaded with a cover artist singing songs by Whitney Houston and Adele and we have heard people street racing. Make sure to bring your earplugs!

Literally everyone is nice at this hotel except for the staff at the front desk. Maintenance, housekeeping and the groundspeople are all kind. But the front desk people do not like to accommodate any requests if they can help it. My brother asked for a different pillow and his request was ignored. I’m sharing a double room with him and I asked for a blanket because he likes to turn the A/C really low and they looked at me like I was crazy. Then they proceeded to crack a joke amongst themselves as I left. I did end up getting my blanket thankfully from the kind housekeeper. Others I have talked to have had the same experience with them as me, and have found them to be rather incompetent.

The one thing that I am grateful for is that we didn’t get our things stolen and we didn’t have bedbugs in our room.
I guess you get what you pay for with this place. It gets the job done when you need a place to stay, but it’s not exactly a pleasurable experience.

Attention tourists, in this hotel THEY STEAL, THEY STOLEN A SUITCASE, do not stay here, look for another option, they had given up my suitcase as lost, a super friendly gentleman at the reception made a video call and showed me that my suitcase was almost empty, when I told them that I was still nearby and that I was going to go clarify the matter and talk to management, guess what? My suitcase appeared almost full again, how curious, right? Just like me, it could happen to them, but maybe someone won't have the same luck of still being close to the area and being able to return for their things, to avoid having part of their vacation ruined. THEY STEL HERE!!!
The room reeks of drainage, by the way, the water comes out salty and the included breakfast menu is not worth it!

There was no running water in all of Building 6. You claimed you had no other available rooms until you realized repairs would take more than 24 hours, at which point you moved us to a ground-floor room with a broken sliding door frame and no screens or locks on the windows. Your staff came in with a loud drill, added some screws to the frame, and called it repaired.

We moved to a different hotel after one night due to the filth on the floor, the unsafe wiring (see the lamp prongs in room 504), the mosquitos, the smell, the salty water from the tap, and the outrageous noise level.

On our way out we saw what looked like a dying, hairless opossum near our front door. Then I saw the rat bait container and realized the poor animal was a coati and you are poisoning them. Friends traveling with us noted the smell of death in their room before they relocated too. Find another way to deal with the native wildlife.

There's no need to tolerate the slum-like conditions at your hotel when there are so many nice options nearby. You should be ashamed of yourself, and you should not market yourself as a beach resort. You are no longer associated with the property that is on the beach. You can't even see the beach from the Tukan.

I suggest closing down, razing the buildings, and selling the land to someone with the ethics and business sense to run a habitable hotel.

Bad choice and really bad experience. It is very tedious to stay in hotels where the staff is not trained or does not have the empathy to deal with real guests. I would never return. The facilities are very neglected, but the treatment of the staff is pathetic.

Excellent service and attention, I was from April 6 to 13, 2024, I have stayed 4 times at this hotel and I love it because of the proximity..... 1000% recommended to friends and family

For the price, the location is good, but in terms of cleanliness, the room I had is acceptable. The weather threw water, the pool was closed most of the time.

Great value for the price. Very clean rooms, super comfortable beds.
The location is also excellent.
The staff is not very decisive, we asked them a need and they did not help us with anything.

Excellent service, the place is very central

The food is varied and delicious, everything is very clean.

Excellent location, excellent service and very good comfort in the room

A place with very little maintenance, the place needs modernization.

Excellent location, clean and super comfortable place.

Very good place. Very clean pool, very good TV, good internet, good and cheap
I liked

Second visit we have made to this hotel, now with our children and the truth is it is ten, they loved the pool, we loved the all-inclusive service, the La Ceiba restaurant offered us spectacular breakfast, lunch and dinners, it was a pleasant second visit, we will return next year.

It is a super well located hotel although it is very old and neglected but the price seems in line with what is expected for a passing hotel. It is very quiet and the staff is very friendly and flexible. It does not seem suitable for long stays since it does not have drinking water service for consumption... or refrigerator. The breakfast buffet is in a restaurant in front and was good and in line with the price. Keep in mind that breakfast service starts at 7am and if you are going on a tour it is very likely that you will miss it if you pay in advance. In our case, the hotel people were very kind and changed our dates so as not to miss the breakfasts.

Terrible, they opened and broke the lock on my suitcase

ALERT!!!!!
Very bad service, the staff goes into the rooms when you leave and even breaks the locks on the suitcases and reception does nothing, if they are going to paint the room, they don't tell you and without knocking they go in to do it, the restaurant waiters serve reluctantly and even snatch your plate even if you haven't finished.

Good price, super friendly staff and the restaurant breakfast is delicious, super friendly, attentive staff and very clean rooms. If I recommend it, it is very worth it.

Truly a fraud. They do not have a beach club even though the name of the hotel includes the legend "beach club". The rooms are somewhat neglected. A single restaurant for the all-inclusive. Very bad internet signal.

The buffet is very limited. There is no great variety

It definitely has aspects that are saved, the location and the image that the hotel gives in its main section. In general, the people who serve everywhere are very friendly.

But I wouldn't recommend it.

I'm not coming back

Without electricity the 3 days I stayed, 3 times, without water, without attention to the reception number.
In addition, if you do not ask for shower or bathroom services, they will not offer it to you, because without light your room is left without any of the services.
For 2 days we had to ask for our key to be reconfigured since it wouldn't let us enter the room.
There are also animals in the beds.
40 min to deliver room... very bad experience.
