"Ocho Rios was a very beautiful and cultural city. You get to see the all the little shacks people live in in the middle of tons of greenery. You get to see large artistic housing and museums of past events. They have huge tropical golf courses and are well kept. The beaches are clean and outstanding. The people there can be a lot of fun but there are some people in the town you need to be careful of. Duns River is a blast. I recommend it to everyone if you have some muscle in your leg to get past the rushing water and climbing rocks. Weather was pretty good. Mostly sunshine and overcast, Got 1 sprinkle of rain the whole trip. Food was average except for the jerk chick was mouth watering.Overall the place was worth every penny in my pocket:)"

"In February of 2009 we enjoyed a fabulous vacation in Ocho Rios, Jamaica! Our group of 16 people stayed at The Sunset Jamaica Grande.

We took a 6:10am flight from Toronto and arrived in Montego Bay at approximately 10:00am. The SJG hotel is actually located about 1-1/2 hr. away from the airport. After picking up our luggage, we were directed to the bus area and were pleasantly surprised to find the bus waiting for us. The ride to Ocho Rios was very scenic and an excellent way to get acquainted with the area.

Upon arrival to the SJG we all lined-up at the check-in area. While waiting I admired the attractive and open concept design of this resort. Once we met with a front desk clerk, we made a request to stay in a block of rooms in the south tower. Unfortunately, they were unable to accommodate us. We all ended up staying on different floors within the north tower. Not a problem! Although, my husband and I were not impressed with our original room. It overlooked the generators and had 2 double beds instead of one king sized bed. The following day, we asked for another room. It did take a few tries -- but they did provide us with a more suitable room later that day. I must say, the rooms are not fabulous. To me, they just didn't seem clean. They needed a thorough cleaning and a bit of TLC when it comes to painting and updating. Although, we truly didn't spend much time in the room so it really wasn't a big deal.

The pools and lounge areas are wonderful! There are plenty of areas to swim and relax. Kids and "big kids" alike will enjoy the waterslides. We absolutely loved this part of the SJG!

We ate all of our meals except for one at the buffet. No complaints here. There was always a variety of food available to suit everyone's taste. We enjoyed the area that served Jamaican style food. My husband was more adventurous than I, but we got to try something new every day! We also had dinner at LaDiva Italian restaurant. Let me tell you, this was probably the best food I have ever had and I am married to an Italian! My advice is to try to get reservations very early in the day. You won't be disappointed!

The beach area at the SJG is clean and offered plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas, but was a little on the small side. It is also fenced at the property lines. You could walk around the fence, but there were always people waiting on the other side ready to sell you something like jet boat rides, hair braids or otherwise. There was SJG security monitoring these people to make sure that they didn't bother the resort vacationers, but it was just plain easier staying within the SJG grounds.

Yes, there are daily cruise ships that arrive and dock directly in front of the SJG beach area. But, I didn't really feel that it took away from the view. There are so many lovely areas to see around this resort that you just couldn't go wrong no matter where you looked! The greenery around the SJG is tropical, lush and well maintained. My friend said that it felt like paradise and it really did!

You would have to be extremely picky not to enjoy a stay at The Sunset Jamaica Grand. The resort and its surroundings are simply spectacular. As well, the staff were knowledgeable, friendly and fun. Would we go back again? "Yeah 'Mon"!

"We took a carnival cruise that made a stop at the port of Ocho Rios. We went to the Dunn River Falls. What a great time. The guides were very helpful and entertaining. Ya Mon!"
