We had reviewed lots of places and visitors comments about the many places to stay on Antigua and so with the considered value of previous travellers advice on trip advisor, made our choice by tending to value those that had experienced places Possibly we might have chosen to go to and then ignoring petty comments. We therefore feel what we got was what we had been told all about.The entrance to any hotel and gardens says many things and this was no exception, therefore on arrival we already had a positive feel about Blue Waters Antigua. We were met by a friendly receptionist but not overly engaging I would comment. Isn't it said, 'it's the little things that matter ?Very much respected and appreciated was the room upgrade, poolside, large bed and modern bathroom all spotless with nightly turn down. Filled with quality touches and shampoo.We had not been to anywhere in the Carribean for some 15 years or so, and quickly came to recognise the benefit of the culture, the resort was near perfect for a holiday in the sun during March, the warmth of the sunshine was truly matched by all the staff, exceptional. A very well managed team by good personnel. I think the thing that makes Blue Waters stand out is the close proximity of most things, beaches, restaurants, bars indoors or out and the smiles, possibly I might say, because most Europeans do not smile consistently in the same happy friendly way. One might add, most of us do not work in the sun or at a holiday resort of course !!On a negative was the Palm restaurant food, ( a victim of the 'all inclusive' scenario' maybe ? ) particularly at breakfast, cold or warm at best. My reference is a cooked breakfast in any decent hotel should meet expectations, here it was a big let down, even the weetabix was a let down in the way it wasn't dry and tasty anything but. The service and smiles were of the highest order, if only the Carribean culture could be bottled.The Cove restaurant fully met our expectations, it is very good. We requested a table restaurant to one corner and the team obliged, warm lovely people, good service super food. One negative was, the Champagne was at best a sparkling wine. But hey, we had a wonderful evening in a wonderful restaurant.Bartley's was a really nice restaurant well decorated and thought out, the food was just I accept in my opinion of course, good but not better. Book early as it isn't open every day. A good night out.We had lunch at Carolyn's poolside restaurant and here the food was good, but perhaps a few different options could be considered. Superb team of girls supported by some good taped reggae in the back ground, a not so cold beer and few prawns made for a pleasant lunch.Joe at the poolside bar was absolutely spot on, he matched expectations for an early evening rum punch ! It would be wrong to highlight any of the staff really, all were wonderful, and yes three or four stood out, and they know who they are !!!! XThe Spa was all it should have been, but was lacking in that must return feeling, so in a sense disappointing , neither was it busy ?It would be wrong not to mention the evening entertainment. Possibly the best nightly entertainment we had experienced at any holiday resort. The best I thought was the lunch time band playing a variety of music, and some outstanding reggae.Would we return, a big YES, though in all honesty wouldn't look forward to breakfast which is a big shame.
This was my second visit and, as before choose a basic sea view room on the second floor. Well equipped, clean and wonderful views.As before I selected 'fully inclusive' food and drink which suits me and offers the chance to use the beach bars and Pelican Bar without carrying money etc. The hospitality is first class and the food is of a high standard with lots of selection. Most nights live traditional music outside finishes off the perfect day.Not five star but certainly a very good, and comfortable four star with friendly, efficient and well trained staff.Remember this is a type of 'resort' hotel so there are few nearby attractions other than country walks to enjoy the views. However the concierge is excellent at organising taxis and tours around the island at reasonable costs.
My wife and I were looking for a winter break and have never stayed in the Caribbean but visited many times on cruises. This hotel was suggested to us and it did not disappoint. From the top downwards the hotel is run expertly and credit must go to Alistair and all his staff.We stayed in a Cove suite and the room and the facilities were superb with its own shared swimming pool and private terrace. It also had its own drinks bar and server which operated during the day. The food was good and there is a good choice of restaurants all of which we visited during our stay. My personal preference was the Palms which had a superb buffet that changed every day and also an all day menu with great choices.The beach was outstanding and never crowded with good facilities.We look forward to returning in the future and give the hotel my highest recommendation.Barry
What a great place. The service was truly excellent and the staff extremely friendly. Beautiful gardens and spectacular outlook. From start to finish Nicole (manager) was always available and couldn't do enough for us. Nothing was too much trouble. The room and the rest of the hotel were spotlessly clean. The hotel can arrange for a hire car which is well worth while as the island is beautiful, historic and totally safe. If you go in March, it is often windy - we were unable to snorkel off the beach or use the watersports but the hotel beach is sheltered and the water was always calm. The pools are really lovely. Our favourite restaurant was Bartleys where the food was varied, imaginative and beautifully presented.
This is the most amazing hotel. Just ten minutes from the airport and the capital St Johns. Set in 14 acres of palm trees and gardens in several different blocks. We chose to up grade to a suite and were not disappointed. 3 suites in a block with their own swimming pool. Very spacious, amazing views from the balcony. Could have watched the pelicans all day. Has a concierge service and nothing too much trouble, they will even book your restaurants. Excellent food in all 3 restaurants. Highly recommend this hotel - we will be going back
