Just spent a wonderful two weeks at the lovely Carlisle Bay. Beautiful hotel with stunning, spacious suites decorated in colours of the ocean. Our suite was on the ground floor which meant you could step outside and be on the beach in two steps! We did encounter a number of small issues in the suite and whilst irritating were dealt with straightaway by the great team of friendly and caring staff. I agree with other reviews that the restaurants lack atmosphere, choice and are incredibly expensive for what is delivered. This is not just currency related but that of course does not help. The beach is lovely although the reservation of sunbeds drives me insane. Guests getting up at 0630 whilst on holiday, really??? Each sunbed had a lovely thick mattress and came complete with an ice box full of water. Afternoon tea is served at 3pm everyday which was a treat although they kept running out of jam which was slightly odd. Finally a big shout out to a couple of members of staff who really cared about the guests and who made or stay very pleasurable, Jason, Urania and of course Kevin!!
Just got back from a large family outing (7people). The 3 bedroom was spacious ocean facing room with a massive terrace. The beds were comfortable. They supplied hypo allergenic pillows for my sister. House keeping kept the room spotless. The beach was well manicured and never crowed even at 100% occupancy. Stacey and Hennes made some wonderful goat water and fungie as per my request for local food. The desert presentation was way above average. My only complaint is it is on the high side of cost. I will email management about my other suggestions because I do not want to take away this beautiful, gregarious solitude location,
We stayed here at the beginning of November for four days. The suite was spacious and beautifully furnished also it had a really huge comfortable bed. In addition there was efficient air conditioning mini bar with free snacks a kettle and coffee maker. The bathroom had a separate bath and shower all very luxurious. One slight criticism was that our room was not serviced until the afternoon on three out of the four days . Generally speaking it was the perfect place to stay at the start of a holiday when pampering is required. The beach chairs were plentiful with boxes of ice water on each set and there was great beach service including complimentary afternoon tea . I was ready to leave after 4 days for two reasons . One the evening restaurants were very disappointing. They lacked atmosphere and the food was overpriced for the food they served . Indigo served me a tasteless rubbery chicken breast one evening and tough mahi mahi smothered in garlic butter another. There was not much time or effort put into constructing either dish. The mahi mahi came with sautéed new potatoes which were hard ,probably undercooked. The meal from East was not much better I think the sweet and sour mahi mahi was steamed but it was so tough and chewy I almost left it . We also sampled the Caribbean buffet. There was no description to what food was being served and when we asked one server what was on offer he said beef or chicken and we only found out they also had prawns and fish when we had chosen as they were the other end of the table. There was no atmosphere and the food was at the far end of the room next to the restaurant seating. The band were also poor and it was the only entertainment there was for the four days we were there. The location is quite isolated so it is not easy to eat else where.Another criticism was the water sports it was not very proactive Only two boat trips a week were offered to cades reef the one we booked was cancelled due to bad weather . As they were very popular it made sense to have run them more frequently as the reef is near by but inaccessible from shore. No trips were offered on the catamarans which other hotels offer for non sailors . They didn't seem to be very busy and it would have been a nice way to engage with the guests .
If you are going to Antigua there is only one place to go to!! It truly was an absolute joy to return to Carlisle Bay. Apart from being paradise on earth with understated elegance and luxury, it's the people that makes this place truly magic. First and foremost, a massive Thank You to Ken for amazing tennis lessons, can't wait to go back to work even harder on my backhand. Thank you Michael, relaxed, friendly, professional and mosquito bite curer extraordinaire. In Indigo, Shilagh, with a beautiful voice and Jason at Indigo bar, the perfect barman. Vaughn and Reba at the Jetty bar and Okera on the beach. Thank you Reba for the goat water. A lovely surprise and a proper taste of Antigua! Urania on the beach particularly appreciated the fresh coconut! Eve for amazing massages, should have gone sooner. Last but not least is Hennis. A true star, a brilliant chef and creates a great vibe at the Jetty Bar whenever he’s there (which isn’t enough). The curried goat was spectacular!
We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at Carlisle Bay. The food was delicious, service excellent and all the staff could not have been better, especially Michael Eutrope, who is the food and beverage manager, he was always around the hotel making sure everything was up to scratch and a huge asset to Carlisle Bay. Our Ocean Suite was beautiful on the top floor always cleaned immaculately, the only comment was our shutter blinds in the bathroom were a bit past their best and taped together in places but that is a very small criticism. This was our second visit, the last time was 6 years ago when there were sooooo many children and we didn't find it relaxing, however, this time was perfect as it was not school holiday time and the hotel is better at segregating and giving adult only areas, if you want a relaxing time go outwith school holidays. Food and Drinks a can be fairly expensive but this had a lot to do with the value of the pound/dollar sadly so was outwith Carlisle bays control.
