So 12 years ago we popped into this hotel for lunch and said one day we would love to be able to afford to stay there... and we finally made it for a half term week with our son, aged 6. We'd been again for lunch 7 years ago and reaffirmed our thoughts and we were not disappointed with our stay. Carlisle bay is an absolutely beautiful hotel with a super beach and the perfect paradise getaway in Antigua. Having travelled a few times to Barbados and St Lucia, we particularly love Antigua over Barbados for the less pretentious and more friendly feel plus the beaches are so much better. We have travelled most of the island and always decided Carlisle bay was going to be our choice when we could afford it! So we were not disappointed with an excellent stay this half term. Hopefully it's helpful to break this down as always (a little ) room for improvement :) Reception and bar staffAmazing staff. Always ready to help straight away whether it be for fish food for the carp (my son loved feeding the fish) or just to say hi. And if someone is being served, someone would always come to help. Nothing is too much trouble. They make an amazing effort to remember your name - couldn't fault! Restaurants We always loved indigo as the spot is outstanding. We were on a bed a breakfast deal and the breakfast is delicious. Cereals and a la carte choices cooked to perfection and lovely waiting staff always lovely to our son who really enjoyed the kids menu of banana pancakes and eggy bread. Great choices of food and a lovely experience. We didn't dine in at east but we had room service sushi a couple of times and this was delightfulOttimo is the pizza restaurant by the pool - perfect for kids. Lovely pizza and reasonable prices too. Room service menu is quite extensive from all restaurants and arrives pretty promptly from lovely staff. Ok so the niggle here is a couple of things...... coming from the uk as the dollar exchange rate is BAD, the food and drink at Carlisle bay becomes expensive....which I accept but little things like the $9 charge which is always added for water at the table at the auto 10% service charge and 12% tax added start to grate by the end of the week. You think ok I am in for a $40 main course but after everything is added you are in for a whole lot more!! So be prepared.... Rooms and housekeepingZero complaints here. We had a garden suite with a bed for our6 year old. Loads of space for us and clothes! Spotlessly clean and great housekeeping service. Nice touches like free soft drinks in room and gaggia bean to cup coffee machine plus turn down service, lovely day bed on terrace etc Great experience worthy of 5 star rating. Beach and sports Beach is awesome. One of the best attractions for us. Enclosed, not bothered by people trying to sell you things all the time. Water provided in coolers plus fruits kebabs and ice lollies. Loads of comfy loungers and parasols.Perfect. Decent hobie cats and kayaks which we enjoyed whilst there and in keeping with the rest of the staff at Carlisle bay couldn't fault the people working here. Kids club So this was one of the reasons I wanted to go here. We'd heard that it was very kid friendly and as a family with an only child we wanted to ensure he had plenty to keep him busy too. So we went Feb half term week and it was surprisingly quiet at hotel (we estimate only half full) which is usually one of busiest weeks. I'd enquired about the kids club before we went on activities and a helpful lady send me a programme of activities. As people with kids will know a kids club takes a certain amount of building up with a child and so we'd talked our son (who also has mild aSD) through activities for the week to prep him for it. He was particularly excited about a visit to stingray city to touch stingrays. So imagine our shock to find the first day there were NO other kids at kids club!!! Total shock and whilst they were very nice and took great care of our son this was not what we'd expected. We were told it was probably as it was Sunday but Monday was no better and our son turned up ready to play theplannwd football activity to find there was no one to play with except the staff! Consequently we didn't send him to kids club in the afternoon and just hoped that he would be able to go on the trip to stingray city the next day. So this is where I was upset. He was meant to meet at 9.30 for the trip and at 10am I saw him crying at reception as he had been told no other kids were signed up and he couldn't go. I spoke with the kids club team and they said it wasn't cost effective to take one child so my husband booked a hire car and we planned to take our son ourselves to stop him being so upset. Not what I would have expected and not what is fair to a 6 year old child. I immediately spoke to the kids club manager and said I wasn't happy and to be fair she immediately committed to going after all and made it happen for him. He had a ball there with Randall and jaida and was one of the highlights from his holiday. After that we didn't really use kids club much apart from a film viewing and a donut ride of the beach. Randall and jaida were lovely but it wasn't set up for a small number of kids being There so the activities suffered and I want prepared to leave our son if it want going to be more fun that being with us. I have to say this wasn't up to my expectations and I would have expected a better plan in place for small numbers. On balance we still had an amazing holiday at Carlisle bay and would recommend but just a couple of niggles to fix to make it truly awesome. Hopefully we will return but would be keen to know what kids club activities will be available in event of quiet times ... Thanks to all the lovely staff who looked after us to make such a super holiday
My husband, 9 year old daughter and I love this place. This is our 11th visit to Carlisle Bay and our 13th visit to Antigua. The greeting at the airport is lovely and the transport from luggage to taxi to Hotel is seamless. We are always greeted with the biggest and best Antiguan welcome. The Beach Suite we stay in (and others) was renovated 2 years ago for more wardrobe room, and to make better use of the second bedroom space. The rooms are well appointed, and we just love our patio that spills right onto the best beach in the Caribbean. We have our breakfast delivered to our patio daily, and the service is prompt and the breakfast is delicious. The service staff is wonderful - always, good morning, afternoon and evening - and always a how are you doing added! If a restaurant is closed for whatever reason, we have always been able to order a meal from the restaurant either via room service or by eating at another restaurent. The pizzas at Ottimo are to die for... and you can still get them at Indigo! The Kids Club is amazing. Julie, Suzette and Oliveto are wonderful with the newborns, babies and toddlers. Jadia and Genvaughn are Absolutely Amazing with the Blue Crew Kids (7 -12). I want to be a Blue Crew Kid! Camlon is a wonderful host on the beach, setting up our beach beds, stocking our water cooler and replenishing our towels. The water sports fellows are great as well. All we had to do is ask Cleve if he would take us on a Hobie Cat ride, and he did. For $12 a person the hotel charges, he took us out on a donut ride that was terrifyingly fun! The dinner & music evenings at Indigo are so much fun! Gotta go now for my Blue Spa massage. Any questions, please contact me. PS whenever I have had an issue or concern with service, food, staff or our room, I reached out to management and it was promptly resolved.
When you pull up to the Carlisle Bay Resort, you think to yourself, this place has potential, that doesn’t last long in my case. We arrived at 3:30pm and were quite hungry. Only to find that out of the 4 restaurants on premises (2 are open per day) both were closed and we had to order room service once we arrived in our room. As we are brought to our room, as soon as I walked in I smelled mold. (I am highly allergic). So they tried to spray the room, which did not do anything but mask the smell. Meanwhile I am trapped on the balcony since I can’t go in the room. Our room service arrives, an order of bottle water, calamari and a chicken roti to the grand sum of $89.00 without gratuity. Don’t get me started on the service charge and the tax on every bill. We are finally taken to another room to check to see if it has the mold issue as well. Luckily for us, no mold. Out of the two restaurants open that night for dinner we went to Indigo and it was a buffet. I am not a fan of a buffet especially at a so-called 5 star resort. The choices were lacking. On our second day, we went to the Asian themed restaurant for dinner and we were surprised at how well it was after the night before and the lunch we had at Indigo that day with a waitress who was nothing but rude. Only to come back to our room for me to have food poisoning. We made spa treatments for my husband’s birthday and when I was taken into the ladies locker room I was in shock. I have seen nicer locker rooms at Gold’s Gym. I was given cloth slippers…I had to shower in them. Once we got into the couple treatment room, the towels were as rough as sandpaper and very thin. The music they were playing was NOT relaxing at all. We had Christmas carols (its February) and the Beatles and John Lennon’s Imagine to name a few. Lets not forget about the tennis match that was going on outside of our treatment room. SO RELAXING!!Don’t even get me started on housekeeping. It is a struggle to get extra towels (which were so old and fraying they could have been purchased from a fire sale from an out of business MOTEL) or even the mirrors in the room cleaned on a daily basis. I don’t think I am asking for much. Just your common daily housekeeping. After four days of looking at the same dirt on our mirrors and the same dirty towel they put at the door after you wash your feet in the footbath outside, I called down for a manager. I had Mindy come to our room and take notes of all of my complaints: water damage on the ceiling, mold on the shower tile, dirty mirrors, garbage cans not emptied, horrendous soap scum on the shower doors. She left only to send Ken to our room, he arrived and also took notes on the condition of the room. I was told they would do a “deep cleaning” the next morning and that he was embarrassed by the condition of the room. Well, the next day came and they did their “deep cleaning” which was not much different than the regular cleaning we had been receiving. Mind you, I had two managers in my room the day before AND NOT ONE OF THEM called me the next day to find out if the room was cleaned to my satisfaction. You would think that they would have made more an effort to clean my room knowing we were so unhappy. Not the case, when turned down would come at night, they would not clean out the shower and it was business as usual. When we were checking out, they all seemed to know about my complaints, but I was repeatedly told that I should have told them. My response, I spoke to several managers. The right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing at the resort. As we were leaving, Kevin (another manager) came over to hand me a business card to discuss further via email. What should have been done was being compensated for the issues we encountered. Needless to say, I don’t think I would ever recommend this hotel to anyone. At best, this is a 3 star resort that has the audacity to charge 5 star prices.
We just returned from a spectacular stay at Carlisle Bay, where the exceptional staff attended to every detail. The property itself is stunning, with impressive, generously sized suites overlooking the private beach and tranquil bay, surrounded by lush, tropical vegetation that is naturally beautiful and well manicured. The design of the hotel is also fresh and modern, while remaining sophisticated and understated, making for a setting that is relaxed luxury at its finest. The true star of the resort, though, is its impressive staff. Every service person we encountered with was warm and friendly, greeting you with a smile and a "good morning" or a "good afternoon." Each staff member was generally interested in how your stay was progressing, and whether there was anything they could do anything to make it better. The proactive service is designed to address your needs and attend to your wishes before you're even aware of them. The exceptional beach attendants, for example, prepare lounges in advance with plenty of towels and a cooler full of ice-cold bottled water, and then stop by at just the right intervals to offer a complimentary fruit skewer or an interesting refreshment, or to take a drink order. There was never a time where we felt like we wanted something we didn't already have or had to look for someone to help us.The restaurant staff is particularly wonderful, with servers like Simone forming relationships with the guests throughout their stay during many outstanding meals at the property's several dining options. Chef Lisa deserves high praise for her menus and presentation at Indigo, as does the chef at the Jetty Restaurant, whose jerk anything was beyond fantastic.Omari at the front desk is also a highlight -- charming, friendly, and very effective at arranging wonderful dinner reservations or excursions -- as is Eve in the spa, who provided one of the best deep tissue massages I've ever received. The list of individual staff members worth mentioning goes on and on. Honestly, every person we encountered, from housekeeping to maintenance to the bartenders to the porters to the management team, looked like they truly enjoyed helping you have the most wonderful stay possible.Thank you, Carlisle Bay, for a vacation to remember.
Visited this resort in April of 2016. Outstanding beach, pool and activities for adults and kids. Food was great, although not much variety from night to night. The two bedroom are great if you have kids and provides a beautiful water view. The staff and the concierge were extremely friendly, and made up for some of the bumps on a vacation. Would highly recommend this all inclusive resort, especially if ou are bringing the kids!
