I have to agree with many of the reviews which state that this is not a luxury 4-5 star resort. The rooms (especially the balconies & bathrooms) need updating. The gym was about the worst I have encountered with 2 of the 3 treadmills broken. It is a very laid back and casual resort that definitely caters to the Brits who make up approx. 90% of the clientele . Actually while we were there, the average age was above 70. The star of the facility is the beach. The beach is spacious and beautiful . The beach attendants do try to make your stay as comfortable as possible. But the service is not on par with a Ritz or Viceroy. For example, we booked jet skis with one of the beach sport guys and the jet skis never arrived. When I went to check on them, I was told oh well, I guess they are not coming. Service in the restaurants is about the same. We made the most of our trip by visiting other parts of the island and dining out every night. Nothing is walkable from the resort, taxis are easy to get.
The rooms here are just wonderful - RIGHT ON THE BEACH! beds overlooking the sea large well equipped rooms. I love the concept they have here both couples and families welcome. However they split accommodation - one side of the bay is for families the other couples... allows the families to have fun and couples to relax. Beach bar is wonderful. And the beach/bay itself is idyllic! Restaurants could be better but are adequate but hire a car and travel! Service is excellent. Highly recommend.
If you have kids this is the hotel to stay at. The kids club accommodates kids as young as 6 months old. The ground level beach front rooms are perfect for enjoying your time at the beach and only being a few feet away from your room. The beach water is super clam and perfect for kayaking, wind sports, swimming and relaxing. The hotel pool is off of the beach, but perfect for late afternoon shaded swims. My kids happily went to the kids club at least once everyday so the adults could also enjoy a luxury vacation too. We left the property a few times, but easily could have spent the whole trip on site and been entertained with enough food choices if we choose too. The size of the hotel is perfect and even if it was full it would not have felt crowded.
I recently stayed at Carlise Bay with my family for over a week. The facilities are excellent, the views absolutely stunning and the staff are brilliant and friendly. I 100% recommend this resort for all those looking for a extraordinary stay in Antigua.
This place is AMAZING. We ended up here by accident - having gone to another resort on the island where we were disappointed with the beach, food, amenities, etc. We decided to switch to Carlisle Bay and are so Thankful. As soon as you pull up you are greeted by so many friendly and helpful people. First off - It is a resort that is very laid back - people are very friendly and the staff is awesome. Service is fantastic. We ordered room service one night and they delayed the delivery of the dessert so it would not melt. From the beach to the bars to the restaurants, the service is second to none. The food is fantastic and anything but bland. We ate at Indigo and had appetizers, main courses and desserts that were not only good, but pushed the envelope on flavor with success. You also have many choices at the main restaurant, Indigo, but complimented by Asian and Italian restaurants and a good "local grill" that blends traditional burgers and sandwiches with local flair and a chef who was willing to get creative when requested. The beach itself is amazing. No fighting for chairs and there is essentially one row of chairs so nobody fighting for good spots because they are all on the water. The staff on the beach takes care of everything - coolers of cold water, coffee, drinks, meals from whatever restaurant you want. I saw a post about outdated rooms, but we had two suites and they were both spectacular. We had beach balcony suites which are spacious, modern and very clean/comfortable. The rooms are right on the water so we had great views and sunsets. The bay is so calm and clean it is like a pool. The pool itself is large and never crowded. A variety of watersports are offered and we loved the ability to meet people from all around the world who were as relaxed and friendly as we were - something that comes with such a laid back place as this. We have traveled the islands quite a bit over the years. Our favorite place in Cayman was taken over and closed - but we have found our future getaway from the daily grind at Carlisle Bay.
