Our Opinion
A popular choice in Antigua, the Galley Bay Resort offers 98 guest rooms with most of them just a step away from the ocean. This resort offers excellent food from its all a la carte dining options. Great for couples.

Luxury resort with super attentive and friendly staff

An absolutely no-stress beautiful resort with excellent consistent food quality and choice, as well as the most amazingly attentive and friendly staff. I stayed the Gaugin Cottages which I thoroughly recommend; sandwiched between the lagoon and the beach in the bird sanctuary these are very private with their own little pools, which get the best sun during the day.

Wonderful honeymoon location!

We just got back from our honeymoon and we couldn't have found a better place! The staff were wonderful, friendly and accommodating while the grounds were absolutely beautiful! You can mingle with other guests or stay to yourselves, there is enough entertainment, yet also a lot of privacy. We met great people who we now call friends! There is no doubt we will be visiting Galley Bay again!

Overrated resort

Spent the past week at Galley Bay after reading reviews here. Very disappointed in the restaurants and service. If you wanted to visit the specialty restaurant, it was an extra $43.00 per person ! Food was very bland and the presentation was lacking. However the rooms and the view were gorgeous.

3rd time to Galley bay although first time back in about 7 years and it's the same place for quiet relaxation with a few improvements along the way. If you read the reviews you'll get a good sense of this place and I can say little more about the beautiful stretch of beach on which the property sits. True the waves can be somewhat rough and despite the majority of our 9 day stay being under the "red flag" we still saw people swimming nearly every day. Galley Bay is truly a place for pure relaxation. There are plenty of things to do when you want to be active (bikes, jogging, snorkeling and other water sports, etc.) but the place has a way of encouraging simple relaxation. As others have noted about a misguided earlier negative reviewer, if you want to party go elsewhere. If you want music playing at reception and at the bar then go to the Verandah and I guarantee that after three days of hearing "Dock of the Bay" on a continuous loop of 30 songs you'll wish that they turned it off. I can't listen to Bob Marley's Greatest Hits CD thanks to a week at the now defunct Ritz in MoBay. The secret of Galley Bay is that there actually is music playing in the SeaGrape but it's so quiet that the place has to be nearly empty to hear it. Otherwise, there's a great soundtrack of the waves 24/7 and an added chorus of tree frogs from 6-9pm nightly. Works fine for us. Since our last visit they've added the Rum Shack, which is a little hidden away behind the coffee shop (another addition), which we only visited once as it tended to be forgotten in our daily plans. Great place for trying the rums of the island and wonderful service. They have added wifi in the rooms and bars which is a welcome addition compared to going to the old library and using the computer (which now sits outside of the gift shop). I have to agree that the wifi is slow and spotty, to put it mildly, but heard from the GM that this is due for an upgrade. Also, one of the unique aspects of Galley Bay, which will likely annoy those not able to relax, is that there is no wifi in the dining areas which forces you to stay off the phone during meals. While some commented that it would be nice to read the paper at breakfast, the ability to interact with others or simply sit and enjoy the view was worth not being constantly informed. Not that there weren't people looking at phones using their data but it was definitely less than you experience in daily life and a refreshing break. There have been other small improvements to the decor and grounds and you constantly see maintenance and upkeep being done so the place is still in good shape. They are also responsive to the suggestions of the guests, as some of the improvements (such as the waterfall in the back of the SeaGrape which was put in to give some ambiance to the rear of the dining hall and to decrease the crush of people wanting to have a "front row" seaview table) were direct suggestions from the guests. Service was, at worst and not often, just average to usually very good. I'm sure if you arrive with an attitude, like most any place on earth, you may not be treated as friendly as you expect but if you truly allow yourself to relax and slow down then there are no complaints. Food is also, at worst, good to sometimes very good or excellent. The quality and presentation at the SeaGrape and Gauguin have improved over time (although the appetizer portions are small and the bread needs a significant upgrade) and we, unlike other visits, didn't notice a huge difference between the standard dining and Ismay's which, in the past, was noticeably a cut above. Perhaps the best addition, again in response to guest's feedback, was the Barefoot Grill for lunch. On our past visits it was difficult to find a quick meal if you were out in the morning on an excursion or just got tired of doing three sit down meals every day. Excellent option for daily specials of a cuban press, quesadilla, or catch of the day sandwich along with burgers. Right off the main pool and bar so a good place for lunch. Rooms remain unchanged and they have, after guest feedback, started restocking the mini-fridge on a daily basis. We were previously 2nd floor premium beachfront proponents but had to stay in a 1st floor for our first night before the 2nd floor room became available and decided we actually liked the ability to walk out to the beach. You trade privacy, as people in your "block" can walk right by, for direct beach access and a better view as you don't have the palm tree tops blocking some of the vista. All in all another wonderful stay at Galley Bay which now holds the record for the place where we've spent the most days abroad. I'm sure we'll be back.
