Our Opinion
A popular choice in Antigua, the Galley Bay Resort offers 98 guest rooms with most of them just a step away from the ocean. This resort offers excellent food from its all a la carte dining options. Great for couples.

This tranquil, charming and intimate hideaway is set on 16 hectares and fronts a superb sweep of white sand beach. Take a splash in the man-made pool grotto or meander through the trails of the adjacent bird sanctuary. The unique circular Gauguin Village cottages feature charming and colourful island artwork while the beachfront rooms have custom-made rattan and bamboo furnishings, and Haitian art. This romantic, gracious all-inclusive is ideal for the discerning traveller seeking well-appointed surroundings, exquisite beach and fabulous dining.
Location: On the west coast on 40 secluded acres, 20 minutes from the airport.

Wonderful Resort!

My wife and I spent a week at Galley Bay the first week in February. It was fantastic! We stayed in a Gauguin Suite Cottage, courtesy of a great deal through Air Canada Vacations. The cottage was constructed like a thatched hut with the walls covered in white stucco but with areas where the thatch was exposed – it looked quite effective. There were three rooms – an air conditioned bedroom with a king-sized bed; an air conditioned bathroom which was well equipped and well serviced daily - it also housed two good sized open closet spaces and a safe (which was locate near eye level and not like in many hotel rooms where you either have to kneel on the ground or reach well above eye level to access them); and a sitting area with a small fridge. A patio door opened to a plunge pool in a very secluded area. All rooms had ceiling fans and, in Feb, when we stayed the A/C was hardly needed. The pool was more like a large Jacuzzi with water jets that could be turned on during the day by timer switches on the wall; there was also an outdoor shower and ample sunny and shaded space around the pool with two lounge chairs. The cottage was located in the garden area, about 100 meters from the beach, and surrounded by colourful shrubbery. The resort was well equipped with restaurants of which the Sea Grape was the main one; we ate there for most meals – the breakfast menu catered to most tastes (eggs, bacon etc., flapjacks, daily fruit infused pancakes as well as fresh fruits and European style cold cuts and cheeses). Lunch was a three course meal with a selection of several appetisers, entrees and desserts; and the menu changed daily. Similarly, dinner followed the same theme but with totally a different menu. The service was always friendly and efficient and there was always staff present to top up water and wine glasses without needing to be asked; i.e. the service was of top restaurant quality. We had one evening meal in the Gauguin restaurant, which needed to be booked for either a 6:45pm or an 8:30pm sitting. The restaurant is exquisite with each table set under its own gazebo in a garden-like setting. Unfortunately, the night we went the service was slow which added unwanted pressure to finish since the table was needed for the 8:30 seating. Also, we found the quality of food not as good as the Sea Grape and the lobster we had ordered ($25 extra) was overcooked; so the only disappointment of the whole week. The was nightly musical entertainment by a different group each night who played easy listening music at a modest volume; a nice alternative from many resorts where the loud amplified music is unpleasant and denies conversation. A very pleasant way to end our evening was a visit to the Rum Shack to sample various rums from different Caribbean Islands. Nikki, who staffed the Shack, was fantastically knowledgeable and awakened our palates to rums with varied and delightful flavours we were not aware of. She would ask you to describe flavours you like and would try to match with a specific rum. She was unerringly good at making a suitable match. For us, no evening was complete without a visit to Nikki and picking up a glass of rum to drink by our pool. In summary, Galley Bay Resort is a perfect place for a peaceful getaway with lashings of good food and drink, and excellent and friendly service.

All-In Excellence

This was our first experience of an all-inclusive holiday and we could not have been more impressed. We have always been concerned about the quality of food on such holidays but every meal we enjoyed in our seven days was excellent. Breakfast in The Seagrapes Restaurant was varied with a wide variety cooked to order. Lunch and dinner were also available here and were both three course meals, all waiter-served. Both meals had a choice of five dishes for each course and the menu changed daily. As an alternative the secluded Gauguin Restaurant of a similar quality of food in a lovely setting for lunch. The rooms are spacious and the bathroom huge. The furniture could do with an up-grade as it is very dated and rickety in parts.Lovely staff and the bar areas at night with music playing rounds off the day. We had a room close to the bar and restaurant area and the music always finished by 11pm.

Had a brilliant stay in Galgorm. The thermal village and spa was amazing. The food was fantastic. The staff were all so helpful and friendly, especially Maurice who greeted us at the front door, he was so helpful. The room was beautiful. Would definitely stay here again, looking forward to it .

7 Days in Paradise

Galley Bay is a high end resort, that manages everything excellently. The staff are excellent, the grounds are excellent, the food is excellent, etc etc. We plan to definitely return, Galley Bay is in a league by itself. The one thing that can’t be managed is the weather, and the sea was rough most of the time that we were there. We stayed in a Premium Beachfront Suite on the second level next to Ismay’s and it was beautiful. Very quiet and private. While the sea wasn’t good for swimming, the crashing surf was a sound that we loved as we slept through the night. It was very relaxing. We came back to Canada’s snow and cold rested and rejuvenated to take on the rest of the winter.

We have had this place on our "to stay" list for some time.We arrived at the same time as ten others who were clearly 'returners' - all the staff knew & remembered them & it was soon easy to see why folk return time & again to this lovely hotel.A wonderful quiet, beachfront room was immaculate & spacious. The whole place exudes peace & we returned more relaxed than from any other Caribbean holiday. One note of caution - the sea is very rough & red flags were flying throughout our stay.
