Great value and arguably Antigua's best beach is what you will find at the Jolly Beach Resort. This 3 star resort offers simple rooms, good food and a magnificent white sand beach. A good choice for families, couples and singles.

The only rule at Starfish Jolly Beach Resort is to have as much fun as possible. This hotel is perfect for singles, families and couples seeking a value-packed holiday. Located on a stunning kilometre-long stretch of beach on the sheltered West Coast, this action-oriented hotel offers many options for active vacationers and sunseekers alike.

Location: Directly on an amazing half-mile stretch of white sand, Jolly Beach on a protected bay with clear, calm waters, just a 20 minute drive from the capital of St. John's and 30 minutes from the airport.

Unexpected

Just got back from jolly beach resort a few days ago and a little depressed that I’m no longer there:(.I travelled alone and by the time I was leaving I had made a group of lifetime friends. Had an amazing time. A lot of points to cover so I will do pros and cons:Pros: the beach is absolutely the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen many beaches. The white fluffy sands and clean turquoise water is to die for. The temperature was always comfortable and the salt water was a cure all for all my hangovers and horrible sinuses. I can’t say enough about the beach. The people and staff are all very sweet and friendly special thanks to Ann- Marie and Elroy for always keeping the Island vibes popping!!! The food was great I have nothing bad to say about the food. I was always eating and eating well. The snapper in any form was amazing and delicious always. It’s actually strange to me when I read reviews about the food being bad but I guess to each is own. The weather was perfect every single day (7 days) Rained once but it was at night and lasted 5 minutes. Now I will say the weather was amazing but be warned it is HOTTTT! Take your 60 spf or higher that Antiguan sun is wowsers.Cons: as you’ve read In most reviews the resort does need some improvements no doubt about it and If you’re used to 4-5 stars or are looking fo that do not go here. First day yea it was a bit of an adjustment but when I saw that beach it was irrelevant. But tv could be better for that odd time when you want to watch a little telly between meals or drinks etc .so that kinda sucked. Also all this talk about supersaver or standard rooms not being good enough.... nope they’re fine. I upgraded my room extra $245 to a queen superior for a mini fridge which never had anything in it, and when I saw my friends standard room I was jealous and disappointed. Don’t upgrade unless you’re not travelling alone.WIFI OMG this was one of my biggest issues. Only available in lobby and courtyard area and even that connection was weak and inconsistent. Like seriously wifi should definitely be included everywhere at least especially when the accommodations is so substandard. It’s $10US a day for wifi in your room and even then it doesn’t work well. That was annoying. Also having to pay for a safe $15US for the week.... unacceptable. That is such a basic standard in every resort I’ve been too we should never have to pay to keep our stuff safe. In saying all this, I loved it there and would definitely go back in a heart beat. I personally love the character and simplicity of the resort but not everyone will. The sunrise and sunsets were some of the most incredible I’ve ever seen and again that BEACH.... can’t beat that!P.S. TAKE BUG SPRAY PLEASE!!! I’m still scratching these bites all over my legs and arms..... another con those damn mosquitos, sand fleas, black flies or whatever!Love jolly beach! Already looking at myNext visit!

Spanish style All Inclusive in the Caribbean

I have just returned from holidaying at the Jolly Beach Resort as part of a large family party - this is my view of the hotel as a seasoned all inclusive traveller.Positives about this hotel;1) The staff- most of the staff try their best to help, serve or make your day an enjoyable one. From the entertainment team who had me shaking a leg or two at Aqua-aerobics to the bar staff at the main buffet bar (Zauda and Neil).2) the fantastic beach - the beach is amazing with the white sand and gentle waves - the hotel has an enviable beach front position with easy ( 2 minute walk maximum) access to the white sands, whichever rooms you choose.3) Antigua - when away from the hotel you feel safe, able to browse shops or stalls freely (mostly) and the bus (omnibus) access / cost is good, with the ability to get to the capital for a venture out at a very reasonable price. 4) beach towels - provided and you can replace as often as you wish - you need your towel cards initially only. 5) there is a supermarket, local mini produce markets and bus stop very close to the hotel at Jolly Harbour 6) the car hire (pineapple cars near the supermarket) works out cheaper than taxis if 4+ go out for a day and is very easy to arrange. The insurance depends on car type but can cost as little as US$10/12 but you will need an Antiguan licence ( valid for 3 Months) at US$20. The things that need improving-1) check in is laborious- there were 9 in our party, a couple ahead of us and only 4 rooms needed- this took over an hour to complete. We arrived in daylight at 4.45 but didn’t get our keys til almost 6pm when it was dark and the mosquitoes were attacking.We were given a rum punch as we waited. When I finally thought we were through the ordeal, we were asked to stand aside and wait for the manager. The manager then informed us that our upgraded room we had booked and paid for in January would be unavailable for another 2 days and they hoped to move us then. The hotel was almost empty so this surprised us. We didn’t get our upgraded room we had booked until 6pm on the Monday having checked in the Saturday. 2) the public areas are not kept as clean as they could be. I understand that work is in progress to improve the water standards /flow but the air con /toilet leaks and mould in the reception toilet area is unacceptable for what is supposed to be a 3 star hotel. The whole two weeks I was there, there were towels on the floor absorbing excess water and toilet bowls not cleaned properly for 2/3 days at a time. 3) Wi-fi- access was so limited that it was only available at reception for most of our stay and often this would not be connected to the internet. I have stayed at other 3 star hotels in the Caribbean who offer this free of charge as standard in your room ( not US$10 a day) 4) you must pay for a safe - US$30.There was evidence that our room had been broken into previously and the patio door did not lock so we thought this would be a good idea to purchase. I would have thought this would have been a standard issue for a room of 3 star or more quality. 5) if you book the super saver / twin rooms then you need to pay extra to get a fridge (US$60) which I feel is ridiculous. If anyone can fit A fridge in any of those rooms they should be given it for free - they are so tiny! 6) Restaurants can only be booked the day before at the concierge- not much of a problem I hear you say - but they take turns to open and often if there is a beach or pool party then they do not open (or the buffet) and you are left with little or no choice of where to eat. 7) trips- we had an amaZing trip out with Kaye and Nick on their yacht - Jabberwocky- please see their website or go to the tourist information inJolly Harbour ( a 4/5 walk outside the hotel. The trips offered inside are only those agreed by the hotel as the providers will give the hotel a large commission for the bookings made. If you want some honest information and good choice of trips - see the lady in the tourist information beach hut in Jolly Harbour. I asked if the team there if the Sting Ray city was open on a Sunday and they said they weren’t allowed to give me that information aa they didn’t sell the trip there. 8) maps- a map of the large complex is only available at reception on the notice board- it would have been helpful to have one the day we walked to reception to find where the Italian restaurant was only to find that it was right next to our blockAt the very north end of the complex! 9) food / drink standard- this was completely inconsistent and thoughThere was often some thing you could eat breakfast lunch snack or dinner- it was not great quality.The buffet food choice and the all inclusive alcohol choice was on par with a 2-3 star Spanish / Balearic all inclusive- basic and cheap.10) water - often this comes out of the taps Brown/ yellow but you can access water at buffet / bar times but if you want bottled water you have to pay for it. 11) Watersports - my husband loves these and really wanted to goWindsurfing and all the other things advertised- however the sorts are now very limited and only 2 hobby cats, 4 paddle boards and 2 kayaks available! 12) beach / pool- the pool bottom on both the pools can cause grazes and need repairing urgently to prevent harm. There are very few umbrellas and those there are are often taken with guest towels attempting to reserve the spaces by 7am!! This needs to be stopped as often those doing so spend all their time at the swim up bar not using them. Some of our party experienced air con issues, lack of water issues and no towels / bed changes during the stay but when the manager was notified they were rectified as swiftly as possible. Overall this hotel is let down by the poor standard of the rooms, public areas and quality of food and drink.Would I return?No - I saw all I could in Antigua and this hotel did not provide enough to keep me there. It is expensive to eat out with lunch ranging from US$ 8-20 pp.

Great Value

Set on probably the nicest beach in Antigua. A 3* with bundles of character. Exactly what you expect for the price so was thoroughly enjoyable.Food - goodEntertainment - goodStaff - greatBeach - amazingRoom - dated but as advertised (don't less than superior)Be sure to negotiate when buying from the locals!

Staff Made Our Stay Exceptional!

Jolly Beach was a solid 3.5* resort…but, I’m giving it a 4* for the staff who made our stay EXCEPTIONABLE! We will be back! A great value for the price of traveling to Antigua!!! We stayed October 29 to November 5th.When we arrived from the airport[via minibus] Peter [manager] was there to greet us as we stepped off the bus and rum punch was waiting [with a bottle of extra rum available if we wanted it topped up/which we did]. Check in was quick & easy as there were only a few of us for that particular arrival. Our Air Canada rep [Mr. Rogers] also greeted us at the airport and provided a very detailed orientation the next morning and addressed/quickly had fixed, any issues that any guests had. Mr. Rogers is definitely a 5* rep, one of the best we have ever come across [knowledgeable, courteous, attentive, well-traveled and a great sense of humor]!Room: our King Superior room was spacious, clean, fresh towels & coffee replaced every day [Maxwell house]. It did come with the fridge [although though fridge comes empty and is not ever stocked with anything - which I expected]. We brought our own water/travel bottles and filled them at the restaurant for coffee & drinking. They provided soap, shampoo and that was it. Yes, it is a little 'dated', but I expected that. The room was lovely with wicker furniture, flat screen TV and we also had a balcony with a view of the beach, Caribbean sea and the landscaped property. Loved the painted white board ceiling in our room. We were in the Jamaica section, room 232. It was about as far away as you could get from the lobby and nightly/daily activities and was oceanfront. We were very happy with it 😊 Food: The food was fine. Some things did not appeal to me and others I'm still craving. I would describe the food at the buffet as a 'family reunion where everyone brings their signature/favorite dishes'. It was fine...no problems…there was always something to tempt you and we never went away hungry. They had one white wine [I'm the wine drinker]. It was a Spanish Chardonnay and it was fabulous! I'm not usually a fan of Chardonnay, but this was great and kept me happy all week 😉 They also had several beach BBQs while we were there and that was the only option for the evening meal. The BBQ food options were really good too! At the lunchtime beach grill my husband usually had a cheeseburger & fries. I went with the Jerk Chicken and it was awesome, still craving it!Entertainment: Have to give 2 thumbs up to AnnMarie & Terry…or…as we like to call him ‘Yfrret’!Also need to send a shout out and ‘Thank You’ to Jermaine – who drove us with our luggage to our room when we first arrived and lastly when we were leaving. He was also there to assist anytime we needed a ride on the tram!Beach: nice, long sandy beach for walking and also for picking up a few shells for remembrances of this trip. The water is a stunning blue and so much enjoyed sitting at the bars and watching the waves roll in and people enjoying the loungers and beautiful Antigua sun.Bar: Joice makes the best Bloody Marys! Clovis had a great sense of humor and made amazing Pina Coladas and Passion Lady drinks  Have to do a ‘shout out’ to Alvin at the bar at Lydia’s and to Osslyn, our server at Lydia’s when we were there. Both Alvin & Osslyn took great care of us too!Downside: [1] The only a la carte restaurant we got to was Lydia's . The Italian was never open in all the time we were there and the Mexican was not available [already booked]. I'm sure there was limited 'a la cartes' b/c it was still considered off-season. [2] The mosquitoes! I brought good quality brand name insect repellent, used it liberally and we were both still eaten alive. Not the resort's problem [they did do some spraying in the evening], just a downside of Antigua, the time of year, location, etc. **Tours: have to add that I pre-booked an island tour with Nellie Breezer of Unique Island Tours, a few weeks before we arrived. I would recommend her. She has her own website. Joseph was our guide and he was very personable, informative and made the perfect island guide! We had a smaller group of 4 and split the costs, very reasonable [$150/US for 4 people]. Nellie has other tours as well – check her out – you will be very happy with her!**Tours: Tuesday morning I booked the Catamaran Circumnavigation Tour with Mr. Rogers [Air Canada rep], then later that afternoon I won the same thing...lol. It is a $220/USD [for 2] trip and I would highly recommend it. We had even more fun on our 2nd trip around the island. Would/will do that tour again. There are several different boats/crews. We had the 'Spirit of Antigua' and Leroy, Karrim, Captain Andre [as well as the rest of the crew] are 5* and we already miss them.

Nothing less than what we expected but so much more

Wonderful welcome when we arrived my wife's face lit up when she spotted the perfect white sand while we was waiting to check in, we where given to rooms in the Jamaica Wing ground floor adjoining Queen superior for 15 year old grandson Josh and his granddad Alan 84 Jan and I had a King superior both where spotless and adequate for our needs with amazing sea views and only a few short steps from the beach Heaven granddad kept saying. Yes the resort is tired in places and you can stay in plusher places and pay a large premium but take my advice there where three generations of us there from 15 to 84 and we loved every minute the staff from management to gardeners where so friendly every one of them work so hard to look after guests food was excellent, entertainment was great who would not enjoy steel bands and moonlight lit bonfires with lots of different food served on the beach. There where so many highlight's Granddad who had never been in a swimming pool before took a love for the pool bar and I will never forget seeing him there drinking a jolly beach cooler with the biggest smile on his face and saying" you cant beat this paradise" Thanks to everyone at Jolly beach. oh and Josh says he will come back and design a new games room for you free of charge.
