Staff was very unfriendly and there was a dead roach in my room when I arrived. Only one shuttle to get to and from room or you have to walk down a long hill. Otherwise, the rooms and view were beautiful
a very smart and elegant hotel in the Jolly Beach area, though not on the beach itself. Rooms are large for Antigua and very nicely furnished: nice views from sizable balconies. Main drawback is its location on a hill. the rooms fan upwards from the reception area and pose quite a climb. There is a shuttle, but only one, so not always available quickly. Not a place for anyone but the fit. Hotel restaurant (not the Sugar Club, for which you have to book) is nice enough: food not great and service a bit perfunctory. Good mark is for the quality of the rooms only.
Stayed for 6 nights on an Aveda free stay. Beautiful Resort! No complaints other than you pretty much have to walk or take a taxi everywhere. No shuttle for guests. Can get expensive fast. Food on the island is expensive as well. For a couple of two budget at least $500-1000 for transportation and food.
We needed to R&R desperately before Christmas and Sugar Ridge did not disappoint. We had the most fabulous interconnecting rooms for my husband and our two children. The bed was AMAZING! And the view from our room, idyllic. The service from the entertainment staff, and the bar were impeccable. Nothing too much trouble. The rooms were clean, and did I mention the bed?!?!? 😍 Would we come again ? Yes, absolutely
This was our first visit to Antigua and we loved the island: beautiful scenery and beaches; friendly people; some great restaurants, particularly Jackie O and Catherine's Cafe Plage. Sugar Ridge is a clean, modern, comfortable hotel with stylish public areas. Our room was upgraded, apparently, from a king room with plunge pool to a room with a view but no plunge pool. It was bright and clean, with a spacious bathroom and comfortable bed. The balcony was disproportionately large and we felt that more space in the room would have been more useful. This was confirmed when we decided to sit on the balcony to watch the sunset but the traffic noise from the road below and the fumes from the cars made it completely unrelaxing; it wasn't a good experience and we didn't use the balcony again. This is one reason we wouldn't be back: it's too close to a busy (for the Caribbean!) road. The other reason is that we weren't terribly impressed with the food. However, we had such a bad meal at Carmichael's on our first night that we didn't go back. We both had Mahi Mahi, which we love, but it was so over cooked and tough we couldn't eat it. They were very apologetic and took it off the bill, which was fine. But we were a bit put off and didn't return, so it could have just been a blip. Breakfast was fine but not amazing and we only had a starter in the other restaurant, which was also fine. So, there's nothing awful about the hotel at all, and the staff is friendly and helpful. It's just not for us.
