Sugar Ridge Resort
- What's Included

The resort is very nice and is just remote enough from the beach so you feel removed but in reality you're not at all. The rooms are grouped in quantities of 4 and there are several of them. Most all have a hill side (may require you to walk uphill and some stairs). I was at the farthest building and It wasn't easy and I hike all the time. A shuttle is available. Room's are very nice. Local feral cats will be your best friends if you buy them cat food at the local grocery store (walking distance away). The entire island is a bit more expensive and Carmichael's on the top of the resort is pretty salty for what you get. So......if you're thinking the resort and local currency will find you some sweet dinner deals you are in for a surprise. Sugar Ridge has a rental car facility on property. There are also a few restaurants about a 12 min walk away that you must check out as the resort is nice but you are on vacation and want to get away. I would suggest walking to Jolly Harbour and dining at Basillico's for lunch, Miracles for dinner w a big appetite (lobster dishes are huge) and pizza at Akropolis. The grill at West Beach is perfect to grab a burger and fries after a day on sunning and a few beers.
We booked Sugar Ridge for a weeks stay in May. We had got a good deal on the price and, having stayed in the Caribbean before and been disappointed with the accommodation standards, weren't expecting too much from Sugar Ridge. We were very pleasantly surprised! The setting of the hotel is idyllic. It's set back a fair way from the beaches as a hillside property but the buildings are very attractive and do not detract from the landscape. The staff were very friendly upon arrival and we were met with delicious cold rum punch! We had booked a Deluxe Room with a plunge pool. The room was large, modern and the bathroom luxurious. We ate in Carmichaels one night and were disappointed with the food, although the view is stunning. The food at the Sugar Club was ok although we were grateful to be room only. For an all inclusive stay you only get one dinner per five days at Carmichaels and the rest of the time eat all meals at Sugar Club. For us, this would have been far too repetitive. The nearby beaches are stunning and you don't need to venture far to feel like you're in paradise. There was a problem with the water while we were there which meant we had no hot water sometimes (there are worse places to have a cold shower!) or the water pressure was low, but I think we were impacted a lot less than some of the other rooms. Overall, a fab week and we would definitely recommend Sugar Ridge.
From check-in to check-out the staff at Sugar Ridge was absolutely wonderful!! I highly recommend a room w/a plunge pool! Room was on the small side but who cares, you're only in it to sleep & .... ! Also recommend getting the breakfast plan & the steak & eggs breakfast since you will be active & in the sun/water presumably most of the day. If it's just spending the day at the pool or hopping in the shuttle for a day at the beach. They take you to The Nest or Turner beaches on alternating days & if you don't like one they will take you to the other, just ask. Brian was our driver many times & he is awesome! We liked The Nest the best. When you get there (Nest) get an umbrella & lounge chairs from the guys selling coconuts (10US) & stake your beach claim. Then check in at the bar to sign in for a tab. We brought our own snorkel/fins (Amazon 40US) which was worth it. The infinity pool at Sugar Ridges' restaurant, Carmichael's, at sunset was beautiful. At their Sugar Club they offer a full bar & a live band which was delightful! However as I found is the only place, seemingly, to get any Irish whiskey, just sayn. Housekeeping was great & please don't forget to tip them each day. When you leave for the day just leave 5-10US & they will take care of you! Don't hesitate to request any needs you have & it's done. Breakfast was the only meal we experienced there & our only complaint was some of the meal wasn't even warm which was a consistent complaint. Though the staff was warm, friendly & accommodating (Chris was the best). Our room had a fridge & we walked down to the store @ Jolly Harbour (not a far walk) for snacks; cheese, juice, baguette, water, beer & rum. You can drink the water at the resort but liters of bottled water are a safe necessity. There are a few cats that roam around, feel free to feed them they are nice. : ) Over all we would one hundred percent go back!!!
Hotel is well positioned in a lovely safe, not too commercial area. Not only are the staff nice and friendly but the hotel guests come from a good mix of cultures and not too stuffy. The free shuttle bus to the beaches is a nice touch and Tony and Glendon the drivers could not be more accommodating. Although some of the areas of the hotel could do with a makeover in the near future this only make the hotel more endearing. We had a problem with our plunge pool in our room although the management did rectify this slight inconvenience to our satisfaction. All in all a lovely stay at Sugar Ridgeand we will return for the new year again .
coming to sugar ridge i knew i needed to unwind - at sugar ridge the process of checking in and getting in room went seamlessly- we arrived on mothers day weekend with the only food option being a Mothers Day brunch- not being that hungry the kitchen made a salad and grilled ham and cheese. Our breakfast was always perfect and they will shuttle you to the beach with your own attendant to serve lunch- the the taxi will take you to you rooms, due to the fact the rooms are a hike up a hill. Everyone know your name within a day.The massages were relating and the high point was sitting at the infinity pool near Carmicheals restaurant as the sun went down
