We spent 6 nights here and agreed to the all inclusive at the start of our stay due to the 35% discount offered at the time. The positives here are beds and room accommodation in general was very comfortable, although note that the steps to access are very steep. Other positives are the large and well equipped gym, also the Aveda spa. And the food quality was generally very good, especially at Carmichael’s. The access to a couple of different beaches — The Nest and Turner’s — was also very convenient, just a 5 minute shuttle ride. However, there were numerous things which could use improvement. First, the reception should have been more welcoming and comprehensive, we were not told about he facilities, schedule of activities, etc. Second, when we were told about activities, these didn’t occur — examples include the manager’s drinks, Yoga, steel drum band and more. All of these activities were on the schedule and we confirmed and built our day around them, yet when it came time, they didn’t happen. Third, the property just didn’t seem ready to open, as painting was still occurring around the gift shop area, so much so that the smell made it almost impossible to browse the shop. Also, during my facial on my last day, I could hear hammering throughout my treatment. There was also no coffee with caffeine in the rooms after the first day, as well we had to ask for hair conditioner and fortunately they had this on the property and could provide it to us, but we shouldn’t have to ask as this should automatically be replaced. Our friends asked for milk to put into their coffee in their room and they were fine with just drinking decaf, but even after asking for this several times on several subsequent days, they never got any. Why is this difficult, especially when our rooms have refrigerators and placing fresh milk there would seem very easy to do. Reception/front desk service was very inconsistent, though Troy was consistent and excellent as the others should have been. Maris in the gift shop was also great, as was the entertainment manager who also instructed the water aerobics (can’t recall her name) - outgoing, super friendly and energetic. Lastly, I would not recommend the all inclusive unless you get a good deal as we did, otherwise it would be overpriced for the quality ... unless of course you spend the entire day drinking at the bar, in that case it might be worth it. There are lots of restaurants to experience on the island, so best to be free to do so without feeling as if you are double paying for your dinners especially.
We were guests of a wedding party where the wedding was organised by sugar ridge everything was perfect for a celebration of love in paradise. Great team, friendly staff and great rum. The rooms are well appointed and restaurants and pools were to die for.
Sugar Ridge is a nice location in a hill, surrounded trees, plants and kittens! Service is average, cancellation policies are very restrictive so check that out when booking. A deposit is required as soon as you book. Breakfast is tasty, but there is no many options for lunch or dinner. Visits to the beach under schedule. In general many instructions to follow if you are on vacation.
Loved the hotel... it was very quiet so it was like we had the resort to ourselves.... the hotel has a shuttle to drop off and pick up from the beach which is less than 5 mins away so I didn't miss not being able to walk from the room to a beach. The bed was great soft and relaxing. Overall it was great
Firstly the staff are the most friendliest and polite I've ever met!The hotel is lovely and relaxing, that's what your meant to do in Antigua..It has 3 nice swimming pools to relax around, full gym and SPA facilities if you want to use them.Shuttle bus to near by Turners Beach, where you can use your AI perk in the restaurant there but the service isn't the quickest !The hotel has lots of steps so be warned but there is a van than take you up and down the hill to the rooms..The hotel is near Jolly Beach but is far better than that hotel! Also the best beach near by is Valley Church, no one uses it, it's 25 mins walk.Right up top is Carmichaels restaurant which is great too.All in all we had a lovely 10 nights at Sugar Ridge, go AI and enjoy ! The staff make it though!
