- What's Included
The resort is set on a beautiful beach, however, we could not see it. Even though the resort was 95% empty, we got a room facing the road. The resort and area are somewhat depressed, and the resort is in decline. There are no amenities, you have to go next door to Jolly Beach, where you are constantly questioned why you don't have a wristband (their all inclusive guests have wristbands). We were told the 2 resorts were recently separated, now with different owners. The staff was fantastic and we had a good time, but I would not recommend this resort to someone wanting anything more than average at best.
Air conditioning leaked and felt like 90degrees in the room every night since had 1 bedroom suite had to use "laundry facility" on upper floor. Bearing broken in washer and the other washer took over an hour to fill a small load and neither dryer worked. Had to walk to other building to finish laundry. No ceiling fans either so went up to front desk and informed them of all this and they're acted like they didn't know the unit we had literally was missing a lot of stuff. Highly unlikely they didn't know. Was not offered to move rooms. Very disappointing
We have repeatedly stayed at Tranquility Bay, Love our times there!!! Very sad to see how it is going into a steady slow decline . Staff are wonderful, helpful. A friendly Hello and Smile goes along way. The staff are trying very hard with limited resources!!! Upper management-owners really do have to put money back into this hidden jewel!! First off-the units have Chillers -not air conditioners. Will not take humidity out of room, but will cool room. Our room 104- was neat and clean. Chillers were noisy and good at keeping us comfortable. The ceiling fans have been removed-not sure why, but they would have helped keep rooms cooler. Furniture and beds are older-a bit uncomfortable -hard. Tv(3), very good reception. We did have wifi( looked like router was located on pole outside our patio). We did have issue with light bulbs burn out in master bed room, then one toilet wouldn't work. Maintenance came with in the hour and fixed. The Island as a whole is having issues wth the water distribution pumps, parts of Antigua are shut off (no water) for hours at a time so work can be done. This happened twice while we were there- the staff at Tranquility Bay were very accommodating . It wasn't their fault, but they kept apologizing for the inconvenience . Even the groundskeepers would apologize. The beach is beautiful. Yes-you can no longer use beach chairs, kayaks, sailboats-as of July. This is due to new owners at Jolly Beach Resort. You can rent lounge chairs and umbrella from Ivan. Very nice man , inexpensive rate. He and his workers set up chairs, umbrella -even watch them when you leave. Take the time and talk with Ivan and the other local people on beach. Lovely people, friendly. Even if you don't buy anything. JollyBeach is being refurbished - while we were there we say workers all over working in rooms. Guests at Tranquility can still use both pools at Jolly Beach. You can purchase drink pass, meal passes and even a card you prepay a certain amount and use a Jolly Beach lunch grill. My hope is Tranquilty Bay will follow and put money into the resort.Research your vacation destinations carefully. Decide what amenities you want before traveling. This way you won't be disappointed. If you want a quiet, self catering vacation - in a 3 star hotel unit(clean, comfortable unit with kitchen), then Tranquility Bay is for you .. It's on one of the nicest beaches, beautiful water. People are very nice. Jolly Harbour is next door -has plenty of food options etc. I won't write off Tranquility Bay yet---it's a hidden jewel in paradise !!!Parrothead82
They need to bulldoze the property. We had to pay $$$$ to use facilities at jolly harbor resort next door. Tranquility bay has no amenities. We had no table no bar stools no phones worked and was told wifi was 10 dollars a day and information from Westgate listed free wifi in all suites. We ate on the bed every night due to no table and we had a 15" tube tv from the 80's. No dvd player either which their accommodations said they had. The ammenities listed were only about 10% honest. Will be working this out with Westgate Resorts.
This resort has changed ownership and suffered in the transition. My friends tell me it use to be first rate, cannot say that now. What use to be considered as free amenities now have to be paid for ( things like water sports). On arrival the reception service was slow, and we soon found out there was no WiFi in the rooms. If you wanted internet service you had to sit in the small non private reception area. The best thing about my room #202 was the location which was close to the beach and overlooked a lagoon. Now the unit is very spacious, and comfortably fits up to 5 or 6 persons. It is downhill from there. The unit smelled of mildew and had a significant moisture problem. The air conditioners were sub standard and outdated they performed poorly. The noise from the air conditioners was so loud that in order to listen to the TV you had to use very high volume or turn the air conditioner off. The air conditioner in the small bedroom did not work, that room probably had mold, there were black marks on the walls beneath the air conditioner. I had to request a fan which was as noisy as the air conditioner. The maintenance staff either was inept or just did not care, I did not find they solved any issue you reported. The water flow in the shower was poor. One telephone in unit located on kitchen counter, you had to get out of bed to answer the phone. The furniture in the living room was old and sat poorly. I was not pleased with the cleanliness and housekeeping services, floors very dirty. I would not stay here again.
