Brickell Bay Beach Club
- What's Included
Best thing about this hotel is the staff of hard working kind people. From the doorman to the pool bartender and everyone in between were friendly and helpful. We needed the maintenance man every day in our room. We were supposed to have a phone, there was none. When we ask for one so we could make local calls, it would only contact the front desk, and made fax like noise if we left it connected to the phone jack. The toilet needed a plunger every day, and the hair dryer had to be replaced. There was a golf cart out front supposedly to shuttle to the beach, but it never worked a single day of our stay. The room was cleaned every day, and the maintenance man was very busy. At the beach, chairs were available, but if you wanted shade you had to pay for an umbrella. Not a very accurate picture or description of what to expect. Thankful the staff was so helpful and kind. Just wish we wouldn't have needed them daily.
We had an excellent stay at Brickell Bay! Compared to the astronomical prices of some of the resorts nearby, we were super satisfied with the room price for a pleasant boutique hotel in the central High Rise hotel area. Our room was clean and comfortable. The bed was super comfortable as well. The staff was especially helpful and welcoming. Myron at the pool bar was so friendly and went to special efforts to assure our drink orders were taken care of. We loved the pool and the pool area was great...not too big and not too small with a swim up bar. Perfect for adults as it is an adults only hotel. Unlike some of the massive hotels nearby which seemed to be predominated by only Americans, there was a nice mix of guests from around the world which we enjoyed. Front desk staff was super helpful and friendly. Although at times the front desk was very busy, they were always personable and patient and they never ran out of towels during our stay. They helped us book our excursions and explained everything thoroughly. Although everyone who worked at the front desk was great (as were the bellhops and housekeeping staff), the majority of our interactions were with Emma and she was fantastic. We also booked a massage at the resort which also was super! It puzzles me to read some of the negative reviews since we had such an excellent stay. If you are expecting the same experience as you might get at the Hyatt, Marriot, Ritz Carlton or one of the other high-end resorts and want your every whim attended to, you may be disappointed and this is likely not the hotel for you. If you are a laid back person who likes to meet new people and enjoy yourself at a place that is comfortable, unpretentious and centrally located, you won't be disappointed. We observed some "high maintenance" type people at the hotel who were rude, demanding and impatient. I wish they had stayed elsewhere and obviously were people for which this hotel was not a good match. We did receive a "bread basket" breakfast as part of our stay and it is definitely very basic but you can order a better breakfast for an additional cost ($10-$12.) The complimentary bread basket with juice and coffee were fine most days but we did order another breakfast on two of the days. Also, the comments about the beach area are correct. The beach area is small and limited but was fine for us (again given the price we paid.) There are only two palapas and they are located at the back of the beach and the designated beach area is not the best..the smell of diesel can permeate the area. In addition, the young man in charge of the area was not all that helpful. You can purchase a better spot for about $25 for an umbrella and two chairs from a nearby vendor. We were lucky to get a room in the front which I would recommend as there is a nightclub in the back adjacent to the pool which can be noisy. There is a nightclub/bar near the front as well but it is closed and for sale. The rooms are a little worn but very clean. I am giving it an excellent rating because it exceeded my expectations for the price and location. I really don't think you can get a better bargain anywhere in the high rise area. You can walk to everything or take a bus and there is no need for a car. Thanks for a wonderful vacation. We would definitely stay here again!
While looking for a place to stay in Aruba we found a good rate at Brickell Bay Beach Club on one of the travel sites for early January 2017. It looked like a great location and just the type of place my spouse and I like to stay. We have nothing against kids, but generally like to stay at places where they aren't at the pool. We don't like the really large places and the reviews were generally good, so we decided to stay here. Overall we were pleased. The employees were friendly and helpful and the place was very clean. King size bed was comfortable. Room had nice décor and air conditioner worked well. We had a small refrigerator for beverages. We really liked the pool area and thought the bar tender Myron was the best. He was so friendly and made us feel very welcome. He had great mixology skills. The included continental breakfast was in the hotel's nice street side restaurant. It was a pleasant atmosphere. Coffee and juice were good. The bread basket included toast, butter, jam, muffin, banana bread and even some fresh grapes. It was fine, but it was the same each day. It would have been nice of have them change the bread and pastry a bit more. We did upgrade the breakfast a few times to omelets/scrambled eggs and we were very satisfied. Would have been nice to have coffee maker in the room. I'd say the main thing I thought that could have been better was the beach service. It would have been nice to have an umbrella closer to the water. They only had like 4 areas with shade that were set back from shore that were free for hotel guests. You did have the option to pay a fee and get an umbrella and lounge chairs closer to the water. Most of the hotels in this area are very expensive (huge resorts) and this one seems to be generally half the price per night. So compared to the other resort prices I think it was a good value. We really enjoyed chatting with the employees. They were all helpful, friendly and we had some laughs.
We had booked a getaway with JetBlue to Brickell Bay. It was a disappointment from the moment we arrived. I was traveling with a group of friends in multiple rooms. I was sharing with a friend and told we would need to share a king size bed. My other friends were told that only one room was available and they had booked two.The rooms are small with very poor lighting, and one small window. Granted we were not going to spend a lot of time in the room but the dark and dingy room was not inviting. Towels were sparse even when we asked for more.We knew that the beach was across the street from the hotel. There were only 2 locations that we could sit and both of these locations were near a volleyball court. If you wanted other seating you needed to rent the chairs. You also shared the beach area with the boats, and jet skis, etc. There was a smell of gasoline always in air. The pool area was nice but then we were yelled at for bringing in our alcohol when we still ordered food and additional drinks.Asking for towels for the beach was always a chore, there were never enough. The one positive thing was that the staff was very helpful and nice.
Staying here currently for New Year's Eve and had to pay prime price because it's the season. Let me be more specific: they let us wait about 20 min on check in and then they were asking 100 deposit for the stay just in case we ruin their room.....The rooms do not have balcony and are overlooking 'scenic trash cans' and a strip mall. Decor is from the 60 and looks very cheap.Room service: had to call three times and wait for one hour to get additional towels for the shower. No turn down service with chocolates as promised on their booking site.We booked room and breakfast and they did not have it on their reservation and therefore were not willing to honor it. 'Their beach' is part of a public beach where you have to fight for your chairs and at 4 pm they kick you out.But the best thing was when the management basically told me to shut up when I complained at 9 am about a jackhammer going off right above us and they would not stop. 'They are fixing the roof' was his answer. Stayed at a lot of places which were suboptimal but at least the management tried to work with you and appreciates their guests. This place just shot to the top of my list "Do not stay-Do not recommend". The whole booking is a huge deception and I do not understand that big companies like Expedia or Orbitz still support these places and put their reputation on the line. Will check out and move hotel as this is unacceptable. What a waste of time and money at the end of the year.
