We just spent two weeks at the Phoenix. We are timeshare owners for weeks 52 & week 1. We look forward to this vacation every year. Love the hotel, Beach, service and especially the Pure Beach bar. We went to Pure Ocean the first night there and had dinner. The next day we went to the pool bar looking for our bartender friends. We love Jay-r, Lito and Jude. I guess Jude had surgery and we were hoping he would be back before we left. We found him late in our second week at Pure Ocean. We like Pure Ocean but he is better suited at Pure Beach. He has every body laughing dancing and we have a ball with him over there. He is more reserved at the other bar. We plan on returning soon and hope he is back at Pure Beach because that is where he is at his best. He gets all the people spending more money and staying later. We left early most nights because it was too quiet.
Was staying a bit up the beach at the RIU and found the resutraunt at the Divi. Had reservations for sunset on the beach Fantastic. Big Points with the wife for this one !My wife had a shrimp dish and I a steak. Then after dinner lounged around on one of the loungers they put out on the beach. just awesome.
This resort is well maintained. It is primarily a timeshare resort with a lot of people returning year after year. It’s location is at the quiet end of Palm Beach. Units are spacious with kitchens, ideal for those who like to eat in or for families with children. A beachfront walkway starts at this hotel and goes for more than a mile in front of the Palm Beach Resorts. This is great for exercise walking and also for getting to bars and resturants in the area. Two resturants are on site including a beach bar with moderate prices and happy hour drink prices.
We rented a timeshare week for unit 971. This is a 3 bedroom top floor unit. The view was amazing, no complaints there! The room, however, was a bit tired. You can tell it’s taken a bit of a beating. Because we did a timeshare rental we just had a full cleaning on Wednesday, but they came and emptied garbages and exchanged towels daily. Our room was definitely not cleaned well prior to our arrival. There were a couple of dresser drawers that had clothes left in them from previous guests. There was also chewed gum on top of one of the dressers, yuck! All 4 adults went home with sore backs. The mattresses are very very firm. There is a spiral staircase. We called it the staircase of death, ha! Not very safe and hard to get suitcases up and down. There is a washer and dryer combo in the unit. It is very small and my clothes all stunk after washing. I rewashed everything when we got home. Wi-Fi worked great and we never had an issue.Pure Beach was great for drinks when we were at the pool or beach. They had the best piña coladas I’ve ever had! They could definitely update their glassware though. I understand it needs to be plastic around the pool but they look like they came straight from a hospital cafeteria. Loved that they had a daily happy hour!Pure Ocean was a HUGE disappointment. I can not recommend it. You can search my other reviews for more on that. Our best meals were found at Barefoot and Wacky Wahoos. The rest were not really worth mentioning. Bugaloe was good for drinks with a view. Bonus points for being just a short walk away on the beach. The convenience type store was great and really reasonably priced. The jewelry store also had some cute Aruba pendants that we got for the kids.If you want a hut on the beach plan on going out to save a spot at 5am, and then be back out there at 7 AM to give them your name. Then you have another two hours to get back out there. It was pretty ridiculous. We were always able to find a spot by the pool at least. This is no fault of the resort obviously but it was so windy there. I knew it would be windy going in but I didn’t realize that chairs would be blowing over. Blowing sand and small children was not a good combination for us. If you have small children you may want to go somewhere else. I can see the appeal for older people though because it really cuts the heat. The pool was pretty dirty. I saw them cleaning it constantly though so I don’t know that i can fault them.We met a ton of people who come here 1x to several times a year and have been coming for numerous years. I have to think think these people don’t travel elsewhere. While we did enjoy our time in Aruba, we probably won’t be back. There are too many other places to see and we weren’t wow-ed. We’ve been to places that were MUCH better at the same price point. Next time I will not take reviews into account from people who own a timeshare. I read so many reviews before coming and was disappointed when I got there. We found that people were generally not very friendly in Aruba. You would think that people would aim to please being in the service industry. While this is obviously not true of everyone, it seemed to be the majority.
Having been to Aruba only off a cruise ship we were quite excited to stay on the island for a couple of weeks. We had previously stayed at Divi in St Maarten and we like the Divi resort there. The hotel is at the start of what they call 'The high rises', meaning from the Divi down the beach the hotels were all more than 3 stores. The low rises are on or across from the famous Eagle Beach, which was just short walk from our resort. We had a 1 bedroom condo on the 4th floor over looking the main pool with a partial ocean view. The condo was large, well equipped and everything up to date, for the 2 of us it was more than spacious and we also had a second full bathroom. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, we used concierge quite a few times to book a tour and restaurants. There was water aerobics everyday in the main pool (great work out) and we didn't have any difficulties finding chairs either by the pool or ocean. We ate at their Pure Ocean restaurant the first night that we got in and the meal was excellent, the scallops were perfectly done, of course sitting on the sand beach eating dinner certainly set the tone. Our rooms were light cleaned daily, garbage and towels. Housekeeping was very good. There was some entertainment in the evenings but not what we were used to from St Maarten, this if any would be the only area that if I had to find something to complain about I might pick here. We were within walking distance of many restaurants and the food in Aruba was very good! The only restaurant that we were disappointed in was Madame Janettes, which was packed when we got there but we had reservations, when you are serving food to that many people you are serving the masses and the quality of what we had gotten used to in Aruba wasn't there. Some of the excellent restaurants we went to were; Yemanja , Wacky Wahoo's, Wilhelmina Restaurant, 2 Fools and a Bull, Pure Ocean, Papillon, Benihana...just to name a few. We did eat a couple of evenings in our condo, there are also a couple of BBQ's to use there also. If we go back we would stay here again, we loved walking the beaches every morning and there was always something to see.
