This was my 3rd visit/stay at The Mill over the last 10 years and I am planning to visit again in 2018. The price is affordable, the staff is friendly and kind as are the natives of this island. The bar staff is awesome and the food is great. This is a very kid/family friendly place. It may not be The RIU but you can NOT beat the awesome services for the price you pay. Definitely recommend The Mill Resort!
Last time I was here was 5 years ago, and obviously some things have changed. Speaking with some other guests, we heard the Mill had been purchased by a Venezuelan group and was going to be renovated soon. In some ways, it needs upgrading, but in others I hope it retains its character.Pros: Price. Because it's a low rise and across the street from the beach rather than on the beach, prices are significantly less for rooms. This alone is a huge benefit, since I travel to see and do things, not sit at my hotel. Pools. If you'd rather sit by the pool instead of bathe in the sea, the pool is well-kept and salt water. Staff: Friendly and eager to help. Bar: Decent happy hour specials, and you can get nachos and watch the cricket on TV. Clean. Do not underestimate the importance of things being clean. WiFi available. Location. Did I mention it's across the street from the beach? Yup, and they have a shuttle but you can walk there in a few minutes. Also easy walking to Arawak gardens and the Palm Plaza mall. Bus stop is about 500 feet away.Cons:A/C. It is FREEZING. They had a nail through the temperature control so it could not be adjusted other than by turning if off. The bedspread was not warm enough to ward off that arctic chill so we ended up using my airplane blanket and beach towels to stay warm at night. Bed. Wow, it's hard and uncomfortable. Not many pillows, either, and on the flat side. Amenities. They used to have Aruba Aloe products in dispensers in the bath, but now it's rather generic mini-tubes and bars of soap. (Maybe because Aruba Aloe has gone upscale and it's to pricey?) We had a coffee pot but no coffee, tea, sugar, or creamers included. Upkeep: Sliding door to the patio was hard to use and came off the track, necessitating a visit by maintenance. Parts of the building just looked run down and in need of paint, especially compared to the high rises in the area. Other:Iguanas everywhere! They are highly entertaining, and one would even let you pet him if you were so inclined. The flan served at the Wednesday night barbecue was off the hook! I went back for seconds.
Needs a lot of TLC....the Windmill stands as a token of old glory and in desperate need of good TLC. It has a nice setup, spacious rooms with gigantic bath tubs and huge mirrored walls...and good new potential with all the TLC that it needs to be given.Breakfast good and very reasonable in price and staff service adequately friendly.
Negatives first, old fashion rooms, bathroom in particular needs to be renovated, needs a visit from the pest control, found cockroaches crawling in the bathtub. Very hard beds, Me and my fiancees back got real sour only after one night. The rooms are extremely (!!!) percipient. Could hear our neighbors alarm clock go in the morning, and you can hear almost everything your neighbor is talking about. ¨On the plus side. Nice pool, nice staff and good food in the restaurant.
We have stayed there a few times in the past. For the first few times it was rather ok especially at bargain right price. That made it worth the while figuring we just changed clothing and slept there.Recent times there (2013 to be fair) and couple times before we had leaky rooms, moldy air conditioner and very poor room service.Linens were not changed on a normal basis. We know because we set them up to see if they were being changed. Anyway that and front desk not listening or making like they did not understand us was a problem at times.Enough of the bashing though. They have a very nice pool area, nice bar setup with friendly bartenders and decent prices and 5 o'clock 2 for 1 drinks. The grounds are nice and we felt fairly safe there. The restaurant has decent food and prices and they also have theme night buffets that anyone can attend if you want to check the place out.Breakfast is very nice with a couple options and someone to cook omelettes, etc. The beach is quite a ways for walking though they do have transportation. Not that big a beach area as high rise next door seems to take over most of area even though they say nobody owns beach. We had a car rental so that did not matter to us.Last couple times we were disappointed with linen (freshness) to a point we decided to go elsewhere. We did have a few nice vacations there and actually like the layout (remember we had a car) and most of the employees we dealt with were pleasant except what I men tioned at front desk when we had a couple problems.Everyone should realize there will be some problems at times and we did too but cleanliness of linens scared us off.It can be a great place and "great value" if they pay attention to the room cleanliness.I also hear that they are possibly being bought out by Marriot Corporation which could mean a whole new game there. There is plenty room to expand the facility and next door site that has pancake house and couple small stores could also be taken over. The only problem would be the beach area which I don't see changing, thus you will still be a distance away. However plenty of room to expand and make a modern site out of it.
