Almost got it right...

My wife and myself had a short 4 night vacation here in late November. The hotel wasn't very busy.. maybe half occupied at most. So we didn't have any problems with waiting to use the resort amenities throughout our stay. All the staff that we experienced were friendly and helpful. A very special thanks to Carolynn from the dinner buffet-my wife asked her why there wasn't any conch on the menu and was looking forward to having some during our stay..Carolynn said not to worry-give me 15minutes and I will be back with some. She went to the kitchen and cooked up an amazing cracked conch plate just for her... it was by far the best meal we had.The grounds were clean and well maintained. The lobby and lounge areas were nicely decorated and modern and spotless. So far this sounds like a great review and it could have been....but they miss the mark in a few critical areas. I must note that we have been to Nassau many times and have stayed at Breezes and Sandals also on Cable Beach. First our flight arrived a bit early so we were hoping to check in and hit the beach as it was a beautiful day. We arrived at about. 1:30 and told check in was at 3pm so no problem we had some lunch and enquired again just before 3...told again room not ready come back in half then we were getting a bit agitated as others on our flight were able to get into their room early. We came back just before 3:30 and again told the room wasn't ready but she would give us a complimentary upgrade.... that was very nice and would have been much better received if it was the 1st or 2nd time we tried to check in.....a fast and efficient check in is essential to get a vacation started the right way. The second issue was the very poor job preparing our entrees at Cilantro. Both our dishes had been sitting a while as they were lukewarm and dried out. My fish while a nice big portion was severely overcooked and I couldn't eat it. We ended going to the buffet for dinner again that evening.......which brings me to the 3rd issue. The buffet dinner menu never changed and with the various a la carte restaurants closed alternate nights we had to eat there 3nights. I love their Mac and cheese.... but every day is a bit much. Again except for 1time the fish on the buffet was overcooked. Not all the buffet food was bad however...the soups were homemade/the desserts were above average/and the smoothie bar at the breakfast buffet was great. So bottom line...the resort has potential to be excellent but they need to manage the kitchen and food options much better and stream line the check in process.

Buffet stinks

Make dinner reservations a week before you get there.. other wise you are S.O.L. the staff is really nice . The beach is great. The jet ski rental guys are the best. Mj and Devon and the coconut guy are funny as hell

Great Beach

We had a premium ocean front room. The room was great, the view was like a picture. The breakfast at Marketplace was nothing special. Nikkei, Cilantro and the Tappas bar were excellent. Checking in was a breeze as was check out. Taking the bus around the city for $1.25 was both a bargain and fun. Be sure to make reservations though - at least a day in advance (for Nov anyway). The staff at the hotel were always very helpful and nice. Be sure to get the Eddie Special. It's this amazing drink but he won't tell you what's in it. Gino and Lil Mo were extremely friendly and went out of their way to make everything perfect. The grounds were always well kept and every morning you could see staff cleaning pools and grooming the landscape. The beach is beautiful and snorkeling out by the rocks is rather good. Please don't stand on them as we saw so many people do, there are animals living there and coral trying to grow. The level beach is maintained better than the regular beach - there is a bit of a ledge that you have to navigate to get to the water. I am not sure this should be an upgraded option though - This is the one part of the resort I found disappointing. You literally had to climb up and down a sometimes rather steep ledge to get to and from the water - only made worse by errant children. The vendors that walk up and down the beach are all very nice and are not pushy. Be sure to get a tropical drink from the Coconut Man and get loose like a Moose!
