Though weather did not cooperate, we had a great time! Staff at Melia was over the top!! Always accommodating, special mention to Carolyn and Monique at the outdoor adult bar....loved them!! There were plenty of shuttles or buses to take you places as well! The Black Angus was wonderful if looking for a very nice dinner, though pricey, but lovely experience! Enjoyed the O Grille and the Japense restaurant! Great price for an all inclusive trip!!
Great staff and lots of options for room types and activities. Of course the ocean view or ocean front rooms are my favorite but you will be happy with other rooms if your budgets requires them. You will like it.
We stayed at the Melia for 5 days between Christmas and the New Year. We booked a “Level” room, which included a few additional perks (private checkin, no hassle a la carte restaurant bookings, dedicated beach area with daybeds, premium liquor, a lounge, etc). We definitely appreciated the little extras. The room (on the 9th floor) and the beach were great. No complaints. The service was fine. Not as friendly as could be at times (a smile goes a long way in customer service), with 2 notable exceptions. Yamali at the Level checkin and Dicienzo at the Sapphire Bar. Yamali was able to help us change rooms after our first night (we’d requested a king bed, but was given a queen) even though another associate had told us nothing could be done when we’d checked in. She handled the situation professionally, and at the end of the day, resolved our issue and kept us happy — a great example of customer service. Dicienzo is everything a great bartender should be — makes great drinks, is friendly and entertaining, when he needs to be. We wanted to recognize both of them for their amazing attitude and service! Now, the food..... the food was disappointing. With the exception of the Mexican restaurant, the food wasn’t very good. Bland without any spice. We ended up leaving the resort a few times for lunch and dinner (went to Potters Cay, fish fry and a nice dinner at Graycliffe). That should indicate how much we did not enjoy the food — even with an all-inclusive package, we went elsewhere for food. Overall, it was a nice, relaxing vacation, but not spectacular. If the food is improved, the Melia could be great resort.
The room was a few years past desperatly needing rennovation. Bed was very uncomforatble (it sagged in the middle), appliances were very weathered, even inside the room, and the bathtub needed to be replaced years ago. The level staff were very nice but also VERY slow, and the staff througout the rest of the resort were downright rude.
Dicienzo, the main bartender at the Sapphire Bar, up the stairs from the main lobby is the best! He has that wonderful combination of professional yet friendly service and makes fabulous drinks--with his own special flair. I gave up Cosmos when they got too popular but he convinced me to try his version and I loved it. I stayed at Melia for nearly six weeks during a business trip. When I got back to the hotel at night I was exhausted but was always cheered up by Dicienzo's spirit AND spirits! When I came back after nearly six months he welcomed me like an old friend. He's a true Bahamian--professional yet with a great sense of humor--and top skills as a mixologist! Worth the trip to this bar even if you're not staying at the Melia.
