Melia Nassau Beach Resort

First of all I did read the reviews on this hotel and I am really not a picky person I just want to have a good time and relax on vacation.Check in was easy and pleasant, the room was adequate but no hand towel or bath mat and only 3 bath towels for 4 people, this would apparently be an issue all week not having the towels we needed. The fridge was not stocked every day as promised although we did get water replenished. The service....wow the service was appalling to say the least, the majority of hostesses seemed disinterested and rude and 75% of the servers the same. For a 4* hotel this should be fixed immediately because this hotel has the potential to be great. There were some real highlights from some of the servers, Christine in the market place was as sweet as could be and always took care of us, Juan and Giovanni in the Habachi were awesome and very entertaining, also Marco in Cilantro was great too and the ladies that served the drinks on the beach were very pleasant. Da Grille was the most horrific service I have ever received we waited 20 minutes after being seated and 2 visits to the host for the server to even visit the table and then another hour to get our food, we thought this was a one off and gave them another chance only to receive worse service 2 nights later. One of the waitresses in the market place thought nothing about complaining about other guests and staff in front of all the guests every day too. The food was adequate, nothing spectacular apart from the Habachi which was fantastic. I agree with a lot of the food being cold and it was a lot of the same in the buffets every night.Let's talk about entertainment, you have 9 floors of guests with at least 2 guests per room, some more and you think 50 chairs is adequate seating for a magic show?? Come to think of it there was not enough seating for any of the entertainment at all and the majority of the entertainment in the afternoon was at the adult pool which you couldn't enjoy if you had kids because they weren't allowed in that area. I saved the best for last the absolute positive about the vacation was the beach, the activities and the snorkeling were amazing. This is where we spent most of our time relaxing in the pristine waters. All in all it wasn't the best place I have visited when it came to all inclusive but the beach was the best and we still made the most of it and made very happy memories and met some very nice people along the way. If you could sort out your staff issues this place could be amazing!!
The overall stay was pretty much fine but I thought some things could have been better. They have no specific sit-down areas for you to enjoy the night entertainment. You either had to sit at the bar or sit in the restaurant areas. Entertainment was very good though. I really enjoyed Latino Night and Reggae Night. Hotel says "all-inclusive" but it is not. They don't tell you until you get there that the top shelf liquor is not inclusive and the steak restaurant Black Angus was not inclusive. I did not like that you had to have reservations for the nicer restaurants and usually when you did want to reserve you couldn't get in the next day. You had to reserve like 2 days in advance. The food was ok could have been better. The outside restaurant by the pool "The "Grille" at night would serve dinner buffet style. The food was cold most of the time. The food at the nicer restaurants didn't serve you much and sometimes tasted spoiled or sour. I think they could take more pride in preparing their food for the hotel guests. The hotel itself was very clean and the rooms were very clean. We really had no trouble with the housekeeping. The hotel staff and bartenders were very nice. Our mini bar was not stocked everyday. It only included 2 beers and 2 sodas. Liquor was never put in the mini bar. We enjoyed the beach very much it was very beautiful. Not enough umbrellas for everyone. You either had to get out there very early to get an umbrella. I did like that you could take the small buses to downtown and back for a very small fee. That was very convenient when you wanted to get off the resort and do other things. The food was better off the resort. We tried the Fish Fry which is a plaza of restaurants put together and they served better food and gave you much more. We normally stay at "all adult" resorts but decided to give this hotel a try which had kids. No problems there, but we are used to the nicer resorts. We seemed to find ourselves off the resort more than on the resort. We did enjoy the Bahamas overall, very beautiful ocean and scenery.
Do not waste your time or money here!! Resort is dirty and in need of renovation, our room smelled of urine. No towels or items in mini frig. Staff rude and unfriendly when we reported our complaints. All inclusive restaurants were all already booked at the time of our checkin, approximately 1pm. If we could have found an alternate hotel, we would have checked out and moved!!!!
I wouldn't normally stay at an all inclusive hotel, but I was visiting Nassau to watch the commonwealth youth games so it seemed a convenient option. It was certainly convenient, and the room was clean and comfortable, with direct access to the attractive Cable Beach. However quality of food was mediocre and service often ranged between indifferent and rude. In some cases myself and friends sat waiting for service, being told that we would be served soon, only to find out that in actual fact no one could be bothered to assist. Check in (and out) was by one member of staff, (hence the queues), at their own pace and with no pleasantries. Great location, slightly tired hotel, often shambolic staff.
The Melia is a magnificent Older Hotel that displays the old world charm of what the Bahamas used to be without the cold and sterile surroundings of newer hotels. It is set in a beautiful tropical setting with waterfall pools, and a pristine white beach with clear turquoise waters. It is not a party hotel, nor should one compare it to your experiences in Mexico, DR, Atlantis, or Baha Mar as this hotel prides itself in pure relaxation without the bells and whistles of canopy beds, walk in showers, flowers on your bed, and chocolates on your pillow. If you are looking for that experience this hotel is not for you. But, you may upgrade to the level for a tad more personal interaction, and other perks.HINTS AND TIPS: Let me address any negative reviews. I have stayed at the top of the line hotels in many countries that I mentioned above, and if you base your decision not to stay here based upon on occasion someone wrote they did not get a washcloth or they felt the staff was rude, or the food was not up to par, ignore it. Read the positive reviews that reflect my views as a 3x Repeat Guest from July 10th to 20th staying on the 5th floor with a wonderful housekeeper named Gwen, an awesome chef Annishka, Kelly who checked me in, and All of the wonderful staff.GOOD NEWS, the Melia is slowly upgrading the carpets, More servers have been added in the marketplace, many chefs have changed since last year, and the quality is much, much better, in fact, once for lunch I saw mussels, crabs legs, maybe even lobster too! As for the spotty internet...for Your Security the Melia once a day does upgrades to prevent hacking for an hour, and every few hours just a minuet or two for security checks.OTHER INFO: Most everyone, if not al,l tips everyone from housekeeping to servers. LASTLY, appreciate the Melia for what it is and you will have a most relaxing fun vacation with nightly entertainment, food that ranges from the ordinary to the extraordinary, a staff that prides itself in representing the Melia, and most important...read the Positive Reviews! I will be booking my 4th stay next year because I love this hotel and it feels like family!
