Dear Traveler,My loved one and I are both huge James Bond fans. We travel all over the world in great style and comfort. We had never been to the Bahamas. After watching Casino Royal several times, we were inspired and compelled to visit the infamous Ocean Club. The anticipation and excitement began once we met our Driver at the airport. As we traveled down the infamous winding entrance of the resort we came to the main building. We were greeted by the staff each one with warm and infectious smiles. We immediately knew we were embarking on an amazing and memorable 4 day holiday. The resort is impeccably maintained. In fact, the Ocean Club is spread out over 37 gorgeous acres. One can always find a private space and beauty to appreciate. Our one bedroom, two bath suite, was perfectly situated at the center of the second level, newly renovated Hartford Wing. The Ocean Club attracts a world class list of clients who return year after year. It was sure to me that we too would be following in suit. There is nothing this resort is lacking. It meets the needs of couples and families alike. A big thank you to Mr. John Conway the resorts GM, the entire Staff and of course our personal Butler, Prince, who was at our beck and call. My husband and I just returned from 5 days in complete paradise! The One and Only was closed from October until February due to the hurricane damage, and has re-opened with spectacular renovations and a renewed dedication to customer satisfaction. The grounds have been meticulously maintained, the Dune restaurant has been completely rebuilt with a new emphasis on ambience (the new patio is outstanding), and the resort itself has the newly redesigned Hartford wing and the luxurious privacy of the Crescent Wing. We have been fortunate to travel to many places in the Caribbean and The One and Only still, without a doubt, remains our favorite. The reasons for this are the pure beauty of the resort and the sincere and exceptional service of the hotel staff. Mr. Conway and his management team are always on property and ready to assist with any special requests. The concierge staff (especially Bridgette Poitier), the butler staff (especially Timothy Hinsey), and the restaurant staff (Morelle and Tiffany in in-room dining) all contributed to making our vacation a complete success. Also, on a quick side note, the pastry chef is truly talented (we order the pastry basket for breakfast every day)! The One and Only is a gem of a resort and we will be returning as soon as possible!
Highlights: The rooms are pretty, the views amazing and the overall property is beautiful and well kept. The grounds are also amazing and should be explored. The lunch spot is yummy and well run. The staff was so nice and professional. Lowlights: The service in the main restaurant was slow - and spotty. The concierge, while nice, was not too helpful. We tried to take an ordinary snorkel trip, it took at least 5 calls and multiple questions. It was like they had never scheduled a trip before. We ended up going to a website and figuring it out. We didn't bother scheduling fishing it was so much trouble. Rooms: We had heard the rooms in the main wing were remodeled but not as nice as the newer wing (Crescent). Although the rooms in the old main wing are much smaller, we thought they were nicer and had just as nice a view as the Crescent wing for at least $200 less per night. We had a room for our kids in the main wing and a room for us in the Crescent wing. Our carpet had stains, but the rooms are a lot bigger in the Crescent.
We have been going to One & Only OC on and off for 17 years. Last visit was 3 years ago. Resort and beach property continue to be spectacular. New pool was awesome. That's it for the positives. Checked into Hartford wing for a new renovated room. It had no hot water so they moved us to another. Second room had air con that didn't work properly. Finally they moved us to a third room in the Crescent wing, non renovated, but had good air con. You should not need 3 rooms at $1,000+/night to get it right. We were there 4 nights. Twice the room was not made up. Radio and safe in the final room didn't work and other things were missing. Crazy. We had to always look for the butler. They were no where to be found. Gone are the days of constant attentive service. Sounds very petty but that is not the service anyone should expect from any hotel, let alone the OC. Clarice, a front office manager, did try to accommodate, but there was no connectivity amongst her team and everyone else failed. I note that the general manager, Mr Conway, posted in other reviews below asking people with 'feedback' to contact him. I left two messages while on property for Mr Conway but I never heard back. Seems he isn't too interested after all. We were huge OC fans and were always excited to go back. I can't imagine returning. Too many other high end choices with appropriate service in the Caribbean.
This resort is incredible. The grounds are immaculate, pools are absolutely gorgeous, ocean views are stunning, and the staff is amazing. A special shout out to our amazing butler Henry! Henry went above and beyond to provide our family with incredible service. Thank you!
