Accra Beach Hotel
- What's Included
Location: 20 minutes from Grantley Adams International Airport and 10 minutes to Bridgetown.
We were traveled overnight from Arizona to Barbados and were pleasantly surprised upon our arrival at the Accra. The facilities and beach were excellent. Furthermore the staff was very helpful. The airlines had lost one of our bags. Rachel on the front desk went out of her way to have it located and delivered to us. I highly recommend the Accra!
The Accra Beach Hotel is a bit of a relative experience. If you are used to sprawling 4/5 star resorts, this could prove a disappointment. If you are looking for more of a local feel to the places you vacation, and don’t need a lot of bells and whistles, this would potentially to your liking. The hotel sits on a fairly small foot print along a tight 2 lane road that’s moderately busy with a smattering of local shops and restaurants within walking distance. The staff was friendly and the rooms were decent, but fairly Spartan and the entire building was somewhat dated. The A/C was a bit tricky when looking for that ‘sweet spot’ (especially for sleeping). I’ve read a number of reviews criticizing a lack of warm / hot water for showers. This was indeed a problem. There were a number of mornings where a ‘luke-warm’ shower was the best I could get. This seemed to be a capacity issue, because by midday / afternoon there seemed to be more hot water available. Ultimately the rooms, much like the entire building are OK, but show their age. It’s a simple layout. One modest pool and then a smaller, adults only pool. Both were decent and clean, with a couple of water features (water fall) and a swim up bar. The beach is beautiful. White sand, plenty of beach chairs and umbrella access (at least such was the case in November). Breakfasts were included in our stay, and the breakfast restaurant had a great beach view and the food was decent (reasonable spread of hours too – 0630 to 1030). Other meals, particularly dinner, wasn’t something we tried at the hotel. It may be great food, but their prices were significantly more than a number of local eateries within easy walking distance, and so we opted out. There’s a little bar in the lobby, another by the pool (the swim up bar) and a number of ‘theme’ nights throughout the week (BBQ night, Karaoke night, etc). I don’t quite know where to land on this place. I was there for work in this instance, and so I suspect I was a little more forgiving on some issues than I would’ve been had this been with the family on our dime. I will say that the hotel and the area seemed very popular with UK and Canadian ex-pats looking for a place to spend extended holidays in a local area, at a reasonable price. I would add that ALL of the locals were friendly and accommodating. The area felt safe at all hours, and many ‘tourists’ seemed to have built some genuine relationships with the local community.
Recommend a stay at the Accra beach, great location, safe beach, friendly staff.Everything you would expect from a South Coast Hotel. The crystal clear water and white sandy beach and palm trees are all great reasons to choose the Accra Beach Hotel.
This hotel has a great location.shops, bank and eating places opposite.the rooms are spacious and nice though the bathroom could do with an update! The staff at the front desk were helpful but no one seem to smile. All the other staff around the hotel were very helpful and actually smiled. In this hotel you have direct access to the beach which was great! I would highly recommend this hotel. there is a taxi rank next door and we hired a guy called Nigel who showed us around the island. you also have the 'boogie buses' to take you into Bridgetown. Beware they are noisy and full! Overall would recommend this hotel due to its location and the beach
We had a great weekend stay at Accra Beach. My 7 yr old gave them 40 Stars - 20 for the pool, and the rest between the room, the food and the staff. We stayed in the new block ocean view rooms which are very nice. Accra Beach just feels so relaxing. The food options are great, including one of the best kids menus I have seen for a while. We thoroughly enjoyed our break at Accra.
