Back at the Accra Beach Hotel Barbados againThis was our 3rd time here and we were a little disappointed. We arrived on mon 22 may for 2 weeks, to watch the Sol Rally Barbados with 2 other couples. We had room 229, a Ocean view room which was what we had asked for, but slowly the rooms that were around us were being renovated and workmen started work early. About 11 days in to our holiday we had a letter pushed through the door saying we could have a upgraded room. We think they wanted to start our room.We moved to room 325 also ocean view which was a suite with lounge and bedroom, in similar decoration, which had a poor shower in pressure and water temperature. The room was away from the work being done.We were not disappointed with the rooms as upgrading needs to be done at some time, but we were not informed of this work being carried out.We loved the outside pool bar in the centre which is a feature we like but it was closed for renovation work, again not informed.Breakfast was a good selection again but we found the food from the warmers was a bit to cool, but live cooking station was excellent as usual. We felt the staff were not very happy in their work and were very slow in serving and fetching change. We tried to get some drinks at the bar around 10.15pm and was told the bar was closed, when in the hotel book the bars closed at 11pm.We spoke to many others who also had issues with the hotel.
Well first off let me just say I will not be returning to the Accra or even Barbados for that matter. It took us an hour to check in for what reason I don't know. The room is in serious need of a revamp esp the bathroom. The restaurants are on the pricier side which is why we rarely ate at the hotel. There is def not enough variety as far as restaurants to eat at every night because their not all open everyday. The beach was not as nice or private as I had expected. There is a lot of seaweed and garbage on the sand and the water was not clear and clean, more like merky and full of seaweed and non stop waves. It was also hard to relax on the beach because of the constant harassment to buy stuff such as food, jewelry, and some other stuff I'd rather not mention. They also need to work on their nightly activities as there is really not much to do besides go to one bar that may be open.No music,no entertainment, nothing. You have to travel elsewhere to find something to do.I was pretty much ready to come home after the first day or two.The only good thing I can say about the trip was that the people we can across were nice and the food was always good no matter where we ate.If your planning a trip plan elsewhere.
Good location and good value. Convenient for Bridgetown in one direction and St Laurence Gap the other. It backs right on to the lovely Rockley beach, lovely white sand, warm sea, usually nice waves to play in. My room was a tad dated to be honest, although it had everything needed/expected from a hotel room. It also had an interconnecting door to next door, which I don't like unless I'm actually travelling with the guests next door. Minor niggles, wardrobe door had a tendancy to not stay shut, a few light bulbs not working, nothing drastic, but felt like it could do with a little refresh. My room was the last along the corridor in the main block, so it was stuck in the corner between the main block and the east wing, so whilst technically it was a pool view I was actually facing the sidewall of the east wing, and you had to go out on to the balcony and look to the side to see any sort of view, and it also made it quite dark. Didn't really affect my stay as I was on business and out all day and evening and only in the room to change/sleep. Reliable wifi in room and lobby. The pool area is nice. There is a gym but I didn't see it opting to run instead - if you head out on to the beach and turn right after a few hundred metres there is a boardwalk that runs for about 1.6km, nice for a morning run. At the end of this if you continue along the beach you can run on to Needham point and back, making for a nice run just over 5km. Also along the first stretch of that boardwalk is a cracking beachfront restaurant called Tapas, well worth a visit for a waterfront lunch. Just Grillin' across the road is a cracking place for quick cheap casual eats, and bags of restaurants within a few minutes drive or 10 minutes walks. I thought the buffet breakfast was very expensive, but the a la carte options much more reasonable. The hotel had various theme nights non of which I tried but on several nights there was a decent live band at the beach bar. There was a nice range of happy hours, one after the other, starting at the pool/swim-up bar, moving to the beach bar, then on to the lobby bar. Staff, housekeeping and service were all great :-) It was my second stay, and I'd stay again.
My s/o and I decided spur of the moment that we wanted to have a weekend getaway. Check in was done quickly, by a very friendly Sushella. Nicholas (reservations) and especially Clive (reservations manager) were extremely helpful when we decided to extend our stay and Clive (who also arranged a late check out for us) was on hand to facilitate any requests.Timothy the bartender was also extremely courteous and friendly; a real delight. Thank you to Keith (security) for all of his assistance on the last day of our stay; he truly went above and beyond!I was happy to see bright new poolside chairs! In room wi-fi still not great.I understand that there is construction going on (did not have any noise or related issues as a result on our floor Room 326).We'll be back!
The best thing about this resort is the location. walking distance to so many different types of casual eateries(pizza, italian, american, bajan, chinese, food trucks, raw juice bar, coffee cafes...)I only ate at the resort once (it was expensive, but tasty)the onsite breakfast buffet does not look worth $30 USThe beach: clean, private, unspoiled, plenty beach chairs/umbrella and the attendant will set up for you if none available when you arrive. I appreciated the smooth sand, medium sized waves, and security present. our room faced the street but it didn't bother me as much as the noise from the hallways (employees dragging carts at 7am)the balcony has double doors so I couldn't hear anything outside.size of the room was decent, bathroom modernhousekeeping fantastic and polite. always returned to spotless room.((Tameka))check in smooth, bellboy always helpful to arrange transportmy gripe: we were confirmed for connecting rooms, however we needed to move our rooms the second day to get the connecting rooms. (we have young kids)this was an inconvenience, I requested upgrade view or opportunity to trade for larger suite instead of two rooms. I was told the resort was "fully booked"-later I found out this was a lie. an effort should be made to please a guest especially when the fault was from the hotel.the hotel is very clean, free internet reliable, the pool was large and the kids enjoyed.no kids activities going on, possibly bc of "slow season"? I would return again.
