Barbados Beach Club

We stayed at the BBC in Nov last year and returned again this year Nov-Dec Once again a fantastic stay, please don't believe all the reviews you read on here. The Barbados Beach Club is a typical Barbados hotel with a real family feel. Hotel location is amazing and situated right on the beautiful beach with Oistins a 10 min walk away and Bridgetown and 10 min car/bus journey.Rooms are immaculately cleaned everyday with fresh towels and linen, all rooms have a hairdryer and ironing board with iron, a kettle will be bought to you if you ask.Food is great and you will never go hungry-please ask for ice cream after your meal it's delicious! The staff are all wonderful and so friendly, we were greeted by first names by some remembering us from last year.In the beach hut located by the beach you can pick up and drop off your towels as often as you like, so if sandy from the beach you can just replace with fresh clean ones.Entertainment is limited this hotel is very much a singles or couples relaxing stay with odd nights of entertainment, however after a long day in the Barbados sunshine we were happy to go up to our room early with a drink and sit in our balcony.I would say higher rooms are better purely for the amazing rooms.Overall another great stay and hopefully we will be returning next year.
I was on an all-inclusive week's holiday here and, having looked up Trip Advisor, noticed that most of the travellers' comments were either "very good" or "very bad", there not seeming to be much middle ground at all!Although the hotel was very quiet when I first arrived, I really could not fault any aspect of what I received - all meals were very good (too quiet for buffet dinners so mainly a la carte); the poolside bar never disappointed; my room had been recently refurbished, offered a great view, had a balcony overlooking the sea and was very clean. I found the staff to be very friendly in all departments and, all in all, it was a very pleasant stay. It's not a resort hotel, nor has all the facilities of larger competitors, but was good value, centrally located and a pleasure to stay in.
This hotel is great value for money, ok the rooms might not be the most modern, but this is Barbados..Hotel is in a great location and has a beautiful beach and friendly staff. Only gripe is that the Vodka and Gin are not branded...still the beer is cold and pina coladas aren't bad 👍🏻Would stay there again 😎☀️☀️😎
Booked this trip for our honeymoon. Travelled Air Canada (AC). Separated from other travellers at airport due to influx of flights. AC rep nowhere to be found. Waited 30 minutes and ended up taking taxi for $20USD. This was after being on the go for 12 hours. Checked in - room had weird musty odour. Room was what we expected - small, clean and had a balcony. AC rep finally met up with us the next day and reimbursed us our taxi fare - in BDS dollars though - $40. Went on a few outings. Buses are an eye opener - need exact change - some drivers don't care for US money so make sure to carry $2 BDS for bus fare. If you decide to take a taxi negotiate price firm before getting into vehicle, and make sure you specify US or BDS currency (one US $ = two BDS $). Let off 4 miles too soon (driver insisted it was the right stop), and had to flag another bus and pay again - not impressed. People smoking where they shouldn't - including room balconies which seeped into our room - it was quite disgusting. Front desk said "sorry". Asked for wine glasses so we could enjoy bottle of wine we had purchased and were told to rinse and reuse the plastic ones that were in the room when we arrived. Had a glass of white wine with dinner on night we arrived - wasn't bad - but the next night when we ordered it, it didn't taste the same. Realized then that the wine is some homemade brew that we witnessed on several occasions being poured from a large glass decanter (the ones used at DIY wine making places) into the wine bottles. Really? Their idea of rose wine is to mix red and white together. Wow. My guess is we had a brand new bottle the first night, but refills thereafter. Either way, some nice recognizable wines would have been wonderful. Building, furniture and decor is old and dated but we weren't bothered by that. Several sites report room service as well as a stocked in-room mini fridge complete with bottled water. The AC agent told us this also at time of booking. Well, room service is available for lunch only and there is a charge (we inquired, but didn't use) and the room fridge was empty. Asked about bottled water - were told to buy a bottle (either from them or elsewhere) and refill it for free using their decanter. They charge you for bottled water but not for glass of water, including at the bar and at dinner. There is a charge to use the safe - payable by cash only $2USD per day, due at the end of your stay. We didn't use the safe as the staff told us they aren't responsible for valuables left in room, so we carried our money and passports with us everywhere. Day trips are expensive so choose wisely. Dogs barking at all hours of night, including the early hours of the day we were to fly back. Wakened at 3 a.m. by several dogs incessantly barking at a residence located behind the hotel - and after half hour, I finally called front desk and was told there is nothing they could do. I suggested they speak to the owners and was told they can't do that. I explained to the front desk that we were flying out later that day and would be very tired. He just listened to my concerns, said nothing, so I told him I wasn't impressed and ended the call. We paid $3500 for this trip - which included an upgrade charge of $500 for the week to guarantee a larger bed (as opposed to two smaller ones pushed together) for this all inclusive vacation which looking back now, we realize we would have received better bang for our buck had we stayed elsewhere. Beach was nice, little rough on some days, but nice. Visitors, locals and staff were friendly overall, but some fundamental changes would make this a much nicer place to visit. Food was okay but plentiful, repetitive at times and often we had barely put down our knives and forks when our dishes were whisked away from us. Entertainment passable, not much to speak of actually. Overall, we had a nice time as we made the best of what we had, but if we visit Barbados again, we will stay somewhere else.
We first went to this hotel in January 2015 and found though a little tired round the edges,on the whole good value for price paid with Virgin. We got to know a few people who were going back in Jan 2016 so we booked again expecting more of the same.On our arrival we were allocated a room low down overlooking the car park,we went back down to reception to complain politely that we had not just done nearly a nine hour flight to overlook a car park.......we were not alone as the other people we checked in with were also back down to reception. We were all told our Rooms could be changed the following morning so not a good start as we couldn't unpack. The following morning we went to reception where a different girl was on who knew nothing and said there were no Rooms so we brought our bags back down and made it clear we would not be going back to that room, upon which she called her boss and said we had moved out of the room.We were at least 3 hours into the first day when she had the porter show us various other awful rooms .......all dismal with no view at all which had not been the case the previous year,in the end we got our swimwear and went to the pool and bar leaving the suitcases in reception,we also offered to pay an upgrade but still we were shown Rooms with broken locks, broken air con with ciggy packets propping it open, also we heard and saw air & sea crews who were staying there in the best rooms. At 5pm that day we were given a nice room at considerable cost. All in all the place was frawt with problems i.e. Air con breaking down ( our incl ) with water pouring on the floor but it was not attended to,also many problems in the restaurants. One day a gentleman was insensed with the reception staff simply ignoring what he was saying despite having it in writing......reception staff were quite rude and didn't smile even when humoured. We noticed for 2017 that the "BBC "is not appearing in the Virgin programme......when we asked them why we were told it has been dropped as it no longer reaches the standard required.........,,we go again next Jan 2017 but to a different hotel so fingers crossed.
