Nice hotel, lovely beach, but moody staff

I stayed at Bouganvillea for 10 nights with my daughter in early to mid-August. We had a 1 bedroom suite which was nicely kept, spacious, and had a big balcony. The hotel sits right on the beautiful white sandy beach, with clear blue water. The evening entertainment was good, although it was not on every night. I had a long held impression that Caribbean islanders were laid back and super friendly. Sadly that whole image was crushed. The majority of staff at the hotel were very moody. I found the staff in the restaurant at breakfast particularly rude. One time my daughter was chastised for inadvertently sitting at a table before the lady had cleared it. Every day it felt as though they were irritated because we’d come to eat there, causing them to have work to do. Unfortunately there was nowhere nearby to have breakfast outside the hotel, so we had to put up with the moodiness every day. The exceptions in the restaurant were Donna and Kathy-Ann who were genuinely friendly. As far as food is concerned, the restaurant menu did not have enough variety or quality in my opinion, especially considering there are no other restaurants outside the hotel within walking distance. We did have a nice meal at the Siam Thai restaurant however, and the food served at the Barbados buffet night was tasty – the baked lamb in particular. At the pool bar again the staff were mostly in a permanent bad mood, and extremely slow with some complicated payment system. Apart from one guy who was from London – he was both friendly and efficient. I found the staff at reception much friendlier and more helpful, in particular Sue and Christopher. The guy who compared the entertainment (Regan I think) was also nice. The moodiness was apparent when we went outside the hotel too, so perhaps it’s just the Bajan way. But I a hotel should hire professional and friendly staff only in my opinion. I have travelled to exotic destinations all over the world, and never have I felt less welcome. There are places in Thailand, Mexico etc. that are just as beautiful but with friendly locals (and much cheaper), so I doubt I’ll go to Barbados again just to feel like I am an inconvenience.

Back to the 50s in charm

The setting is paradise, palm trees, white sand and blue sea. However the sea on the south can still get quite rough which meant we mainly used the pools. Maxwell beach is slightly cut off, there is a useful cut through at the end of the beach to get to Dover but only in the day time, we were advised to steer clear at night. The rooms are basic but serviceable, air con was great, and the kitchenette very useful. There is a travelling food car that pulls up outside the hotel at lunch time serving fabulous local meals for 20 Barbados. The whole feeling is old fashioned but charming.

Paradise fiund

My husband and I had a beautiful ocean front one bedroom unit with a spectacular view. Our unit was cleaned daily with bed linens changed and dishes as well even though we exchanged through RCI. The grounds were SPECTACULAR!! The front desk were pleasant and helpful. The lanterns restaurant was nice as well with good, reasonably price food. We would definitely come back.

Sunsets and palm trees - paradise

A lovely resort from the minute you step into reception. A cooling drink and home made cake was awaiting us plus big smiles.Check in was easy and we upgraded to fully inclusive (meals and drinks are expensive here) before we were led to our room. I had emailed in advance to say it was our wedding anniversary and my husbands birthday, so was lovely to see balloons, a bottle of fizz and cards in our room when we entered it! Such a lovely touch. The room itself was a reasonable size with a front room, bedroom to the rear, a small kitchen area, bathroom and separate shower/toilet. Our balcony overlooked the small rectangle pool and had a sea view. The room was very clean, but slightly dated we thought, but this was no problem at all.The resort was made up of various blocks and is bigger than we originally thought. It never felt overcrowded at all with two beaches and two pools, there is plenty of room.Everywhere you go, the gardens are maintained beautifully with the vibrant colours of bougainvillea. So pretty and so clean. The staff are very friendly and polite, only the concierge was cold and off so we didn't book any trips with her. There is a water sports centre on site too where we went out for a catarmaran trip. Special mention to Anthony there, who is so lovely. The beach is clean with clear waters lapping the edge but the sea was rough and the waves do beat you! The sea was always rough, not sure if it is always like that, you can swim but just need to watch the waves. We went for short walks along the beach, from one end to the othe probably takes 10 minutes but a gorgeous strolll all the same.Wifi was good, from the beach also.Had a fantastic time, no gripes at all and would return with the children.

First impression at the front desk by a woman on my visit 4-8th August 20 17 was terrible. They need to be trained

My friend and my self visited the mentioned hotel to be disgusted by a woman and man at the front desk on the 4th 8th of August 2017. They have no training in international. It is not about Barbados, the rest of the world is bigger than barbados. They were rude in telling us what we have to accept and that is how it is. the rates are misleading and their method of payment is draconian. A down payment was made for my stay as i arrived hey demanded to be paid in full. Don't you ask for a visa card on file so i can spend more money in the hotel. The manager is in defence of his worker as he is just as untrained as the others. I will never recommend this shed for a stay....
