I love this place. I haven't been back in Barbados since 2008. I was staying with family for a bit but wanted some time for myself as well. I am so so happy to have chosen this resort. It was everything I wanted. Resort: Right on the beach, spacious rooms with a picturesque view and great restaurants on site. The staff here are wonderful. The porter who assisted me with my bags (no elevators) made sure I was happy with my room and where things on the property were. This isn't a huge resort - which is what I wanted. I wanted a quiet place to relax on the beach. The front desk staff are professional and warm. On Mondays there is a manager's cocktail party - rum punch was great! Also great was meeting the management staff - it was clear to me they take pride in their job and providing guests with a wonderful experience. The rooms are very big - each one has a balcony with table and chairs. My room also had a small kitchen with everything you need to make a meal - If I was staying longer, this is something I perhaps would have made use of, but given that I was only there two nights and alone, didn't need to. the bed was comfortable and clean. I was quite surprised at how spacious the bathrooms were. The room have a very good layout. While I was alone, the room would be very comfortable for two with MORE than enough space. There is a gym on the property which is excellent. I train five days a week no matter where I am in the world, so a well equipped fitness centre is very important to me. This resort has one of the best I've seen. All the equipment and weights that I needed was available. one thing I notice about this hotel (that I really liked) is that it was suitable for all types of travelers. I met many families with young children (there is a kids pool) and teenaged children, younger couples and older couples as well as groups of travelers together. This hotel was good for everyone. Its not a "party hotel"; its not an "old people's place"; or just for "young people". Travelers of all backgrounds would enjoy this place, including solo travelers like myself. The staff made everyone feel comfortable and the amenities are great for all.Restaurants on site: The staff assisted me with making reservations for dinner at the restaurants at the resort. I didn't want to venture off at night alone so I was very happy that there was great restaurants on site. Siam Bar & Restaurant and Lanterns by the Sea. I ate at both. They were both wonderful. Siam is a thai restaurant. I personally am not one to go to the caribbean to eat thai food. I live in Toronto and can do that there. However, the food at this restaurant was great! I had a beef dish for dinner and was not at all disappointed. I had breakfast at Lanterns which was good but the barbecue dinner on Monday was amazing. Both are by the water so the ambience is great. My orders all came promptly and no concern about waiting for a long time for food (something I typically come to expect in the islands) The hotel is right on maxwell beach a really great beach with relatively calm waters. There wasn't any issue with getting a beach chair or umbrella. If you needed one the staff that works out of the hut on the beach will sort that out for you. They brought me an umbrella to where I wanted and made sure I was comfortable. What's wonderful about this location is that you can walk along the beach past all the other hotels to get to St. Lawrence Gap. It is about a 20 minute walk which doesn't feel long at all as you're walking along the beach. Beaches are public in Barbados but it really does feel like Bougainvillea has its own little piece of it. The only people using the part of the beach by the hotel was the guests of the hotel.Overall I was really happy with my stay here. I felt like I was in paradise. Waking up to a beautiful view, very warm staff and in a comfortable room. I wish I stayed longer. When I return to Barbados, I will most certainly return to this hotel. I am very grateful to all the staff for how wonderful they treated me and how comfortable they made me feel.
Wow another excellent stay ..We are very well relaxed enjoying the slow pace of life in Barbados . The hotel caters for everything we need . Excellent rooms that can be very cold when you need with great air conditioning. We had a little kitchen area which was brill to make meals if we wanted and a full size fridge to store the essential drinks, chocs.etc. The bedroom and bathroom were spacious and very clean and the room opened out to a outside seating area which was spot on. The outside hotel area was perfect with ample sunbeds ,fresh cold drinking water free if required, beautiful clear blue sea and lots of beach or grass if you prefer , lots of flowers and palm trees and two swimming pools. Everywhere is clean and perfect. You can hire boats and also work out in the well equipped gym. Lanterns restaurant is excellent value for money we had lunch here a few times also there is a Thai . All staff have been very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome and valued . I would recommend to all...... Thank you very much
This is our 5th trip to the island paradise of Barbados & I write this sitting on the beach at the jewel that is the Bougainvillea on our last day of a 14 day trip. From the moment we arrived at check in we actually felt we'd come home & a feeling of total relaxation descended on us and the stresses of our usual lives were forgotten. The hotel has a unique character & atmosphere: it is the most attractive property on this side & shines out among its bigger, brash neighbours. Every room has an ocean view & wherever you are you are just steps from the most beautiful beach. I've read that some people complain it's quiet at night however there is always some entertainment going on be it a singer, group or instrumentalist. Yes, the resort is quiet after about 10.30 but you can always take a short walk or cab ride to the party always going on somewhere in the Gap.We came on a room only basis as we like to try different restaurants: the hotel has 2 on site, Lanterns where we had breakfast a couple of times & dinner around 4 times. We found the breakfast to be ok and the dinners excellent. Much improved from when we stayed before. And Lanterns has an unbeatable position right on the beach & has had a stylish decor update. Service was perfectly fine, Caribbean style, laid back, knowledgeable & friendly. We also went to Siam, the on site Thai place which was also very good.Other places we are which we're excellent were The Cliff, Primo & Beach One. Less good but ok was Castaways. Most disappointing was Cafe Luna where food & service were not what it used to be.We had breakfast on our balcony most mornings after doing a shop at Masseys, we walked the mile to it but you could get a cab. We got general provisions such as fruit, yogurt, milk etc. The rooms have fully equipped kitchens if you wanted to self cater, with everything you would need. The rooms are colourfully & tastefully decorated with fans & a/c.We used the well equipped gym most days after which we chilled on the beach for much of the day. Happy hour is at 3.30 when we'd stroll over to get our daily rum punch!Big thank you to the wonderful watersports guys especially Corey who again kept us supplied with towels, umbrellas & Jell-O shots! A marvellous innovation! Sadly he is a Man Utd fan but no ones perfect!Thank you also to Shelly in the office who must have got slightly vexed with my various emails pre arrival but was always polite & patient with me!So we shall be returning in 2018 for stay number 6 & cant waitFinal word, if you're looking for big, brash & loud you'd be better going to Sandals which is along the beach. Hideous but thankfully it has had no effect on anything at the Bougainvillea. It is being built as we speak & is partly open but there is no noise or disruption to the beautiful, chilled paradise of the Bougainvillea
waves are exciting to boogie board on, staff super friendly, there are more chairs and umbrellas than there are people so no need to reserve at 6am, clean rooms and property, safe for families (beach security always present) but not many people will bother you, lots to do locally with activities and local food (10m taxi to everywhere is seems)
The resort is small-ish so there's no sense of being overwhelmed. It's a great family spot, not much in the way of late night shows or parties but good in-house entertainment, beautiful beach and easy access to many tourist spots. Cabs are easy to catch and the drivers we had were all friendly and knowledgeable. a GREAT week.
