Extremely relaxing and centrally located resort

I spent my vacation at this resort a couple weeks ago. The resort is right on the beach and very close to all the local hot spots, including Oistins and St. Lawrence Gap (amazing food). The staff is very friendly and responsive, and were extremely helpful in assisting us in booking and planning excursions. There are various events at the resort on a weekly basis which guests are welcomed to participate in. I had a comfortable and relaxing stay and would definitely stay at this resort on my next trip to Barbados.

Beautiful and relaxing

My husband, 17 year old daughter and I stayed at The Bougainvillea in July and this was our 3rd visit in 4 years. I'm a little late posting this review but after reading some recent reviews was surprised by some recent negative comments. The staff at this resort are lovely, helpful and friendly, in particular, Mark, Roxanne, Darrien & Jose at the pool bar. These are all familiar faces and gave us a lovely welcome back and we were sad to say goodbye to them. The reception staff are helpful and friendly as are most of the staff around the hotel including the water sports staff and the bar assistants doing the fetching and carrying and the porters. This year we stayed on the east side overlooking the small rectangular pool with a sea view which was beautiful, quiet and relaxing. The apartment itself was a little dated but we understand this side is subject to a full renovation next year. The only complaint we had was regarding the sofa bed in the lounge where my daughter slept. The very very thin mattress meant you could feel the bar under your back and this was not at all comfortable even for the smallest of people to sleep on. That being said we spoke to reception and within half an hour a roll away single bed was delivered to the room, so we were happy with that but I do not think the sofa beds are suitable. The restaurant is a bit expensive in our opinion so we only ate there one night and breakfast a couple of times and preferred to eat out in the evening at local restaurants in the Gap or nearby and there are plenty to choose from. The restaurants did seem to be a lot more expensive this year, especially the Indian Apsara Samudra which we felt we were ripped off despite the nice food and the supermarkets are extortionate! but there are also cheaper places to eat that give just as good value for money. Breakfast at Bliss Cafe in the Gap is a must. Lovely coffee, food and owned by a lovely family who originate from the UK. Getting around the island is so easy. There are plenty of cabs and despite what a previous review said, we were never ripped off and all the cab drivers are very friendly and there is no shortage. A cab to or from The Gap is 20BDS, unless you have the singing taxi driver, Michael who charges an extra 5BDS for the privilege! As I have said in previous a previous review after our first visit, I feel the one thing lacking at this hotel is a separate bar area for evening drinks that maybe stays open a bit longer. The pool bar is the only bar of an evening & closes at 10:30pm. On our last evening we were sitting at the table around the bar area, the bar had just closed and we were with a couple of families we had become friendly with and laughing and chatting and were told by the security guard that the duty manager had requested us to be quieter as other guests were trying to sleep. This was quite disappointing as we were not making a lot of noise, it wasn't late and at the end of the day, we were on our holidays! So a separate bar area for evening entertainment and which is open a bit later, in my opinion, would be an asset to this hotel. That being said, it has not put us off, we love it at the Bougainvillea and can understand why people visit time and again and we will definitely return once the renovations and refurbs are complete

Friendly Staff, Nice Beach but 90% Under Construction

We just came home from a week stay. Staff friendly & nice beachfront. But 90% resort is closed for renovations (main pool, pool bar, restaurant, gym & spa are all closed) We were unaware of this at the time of our booking so it was quite a disappointment.

Beautiful beach

I stayed here for one night recently and I have to say I wish I could of stayed longer . The pools are lovely and the beach is beautiful with fine white sand and crystal clear sea and a few waves . There are fixed umbrellas on the beach and comfortable sun loungers . The Siam restaurant is tastefully decorated and the food was lovely . The room was spacious but a bit dated although while I was there it looked like renovations were about to take place . I'd love to go back one day .

A piece of paradise

I have just returned from my 8th stay at Bougainvillea. What can I say… It just gets better each year I come! From the moment I arrived I felt completely at home with members of staff welcoming me back to seeing familiar faces on the beach. The beach is beautiful. Truly. Every year I seem to appreciate just how spectacular it is a little bit more. I could probably spend nearly my whole holiday in the sea. The water is clear, turquoise and so sandy. Corey and Eddie on watersports were very helpful and friendly and if you need a little more shade they are more than happy to provide you with another umbrella. A new addition to the hotel is Siam restaurant. Having read plenty of reviews about how good it was I was eager to see for myself. Siam definitely did not disappoint. The food is delicious and the setting is perfect. Definitely a must if you enjoy Thai food. Regan (the manager of food and drink) was always around making sure all the guests had a great time. Jose once again was fantastic. He is definitely a real asset to the hotel. Cracking jokes and making amazing cocktails are his speciality. The only problem being, once you sit down in the swim up bar to have one of drinks and a chat you will not want to leave! Thank you Jose for being so great. Roxanne was also fantastic. Always kind, looking out for everyone and friendly. If you have any questions, the staff on reception are always willing to help. They booked a couple of restaurants for us in the evening, which made going out very easy! This hotel is a perfect piece of paradise. I can not wait to see the new refurbished rooms as I can only imagine this will enhance just how special this place is.
