Bougainvillea Beach Resort

We stayed in April over Easter with our 8 and 10 year old girls. The room we had exceeded our expectations - big living room, kitchen with all the amenities we needed including a full-size fridge, a blender, a toaster and microwave. The coffee maker was of a percolator style which we aren't as used to but it made good, hot coffee. We were a bit afraid from the pictures on the website that our room would be bright green but in fact the suite was tastefully decorated in neutrals accented with navy blue. The beach was really the highlight. A bit rough at times but that made for fun afternoons playing in the waves. The sand was gorgeous and the beach extended past the resort for quite a long ways - perfect for strolls. We went out with Edwin on the sail boat and that was definitely worth the $20 (US) fee. There were always enough loungers, umbrellas and body boards and you didn't need to reserve them. The resort also had sand toys that you could borrow and they provided the beach towels. The resort has lovely gardens and flowers which makes it very pretty. Don't forget to visit the "other side" of the resort where there are hammocks and a large swimming pool which always seemed quite peaceful. We mostly ate in our suite (for breakfast and lunch) and then went out for dinner. Many good choices were nearby. The best meal we had was at Castaways. There is parking across the street. Reservations REQUIRED. Just Grillin' also a good choice for a very casual (but good) dinner across from Rockley Beach. We went up to the Atlantis Hotel for Easter brunch and found it worth the 45-min to an hour drive, although the prices were a bit high. The resort is also well located with only a short drive to many conveniences on the south shore. One grocery store was only 15-20 minute walk away and the other one which is a big bigger was a short 10 minute drive. Our only complaint with the hotel would be that our balcony was visited frequently by pigeons which made it unpleasant to sit out there. We couldn't even leave our swimsuits on the drying rods because they would get soiled. We didn't eat much on the resort but the one dinner we had at Lanterns was quite good and quite reasonable, although the service was a bit slow but we were on vacation so not a big deal. All in all - a lovely resort that we would recommend to friends.
We stayed at the Bouganvillia Beach Resort recently for 11 nights. We booked a one bedroom suite which had a separate lounge area with a sofa and double sofa bed on which the kids slept. There was a well equipped kitchen area with full oven, large fridge freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster. A large double balcony was a nice bonus. I think we were staying in the older (not refurbished?) block overlooking the quiet pool area - this didn't bother us as we had a fantastic sea view although I have to say that the room was very tired and in need of updating. Maid service daily if you requested it which included change of towels. We were located on the 2nd of 3 floors (we generally request the top floor because of past experiences with noisy guests above ... dragging furniture etc - do wonder what these people do!!) The hotel grounds are really well maintained. Two restaurants - Lanterns is the a-la-Carte buffet and Siam the Thai. Both places served good food - especially the Thai (would highly recommend and a lovely setting!) If your package/rate doesn't include breakfast I think the buffet options are expensive for what you get and the themed evenings (e.g.Caribbean night) is also pricey. We generally thought Barbados was expensive (but admit this wasn't helped with our dire UK £ exchange rate!). The hotel made the effort to put on tasteful entertainment sometimes at lunch and evenings - anything from live steel drums to live singing acts and a DJ. There's also a kids club and kids activities - although my kids (age 12 and 8) were more than entertained in the waves! This brings me onto the pool and beach areas - the main free form pool is relatively small for the number of guests (especially as kids cannot use the side where the swim up bar was located). The quiet pool on the other side of the complex was a welcome addition - but also relatively small. The beach area and sea however were great! Being closer to the south coast the waves are bigger here but my kids were able to swim in the sea everyday (even on yellow flag days). The bonus of being able to hire free body boards kept them well entertained! The beach area is beautiful and the beach and water sports staff are lovely and very helpful. Nice touches of cold menthol cloths and jelly/jello rum shots (non alcoholic for the kids) served daily. Beach towels are provided - however, they did run out especially as the hotel became busier ... they need to adopt a policy where you note your room number or some similar process to stop people changing their towels for clean ones multiple times a day!! We had ours for 3 days on one occasion! The location of the hotel is perfect between Oistins and St Lawrence Gap (of which you can walk to along the beach in daylight - takes about 10-15mins). One thing to note is the big Sandals development ongoing next door - they are apparently doubling their occupancy of the hotel. You cannot hear the building work from the Bouganvillia but I wonder how the influx of more tourists to this area will impact the beach and surrounding area (maybe a good thing?). Anyway, recommend to hire a car, get out and see the island - plenty to experience and some amazing places and beaches.
We've recently returned from our 4th visit to the Bougainvillea and it was as good as ever. The staff are great - friendly, always smiling and always polite, the colours in the gardens are stunning with the gardens themselves being beautifully kept and the setting is perfect. The equipment in the kitchen is everything you'd need to make breakfasts and snacks and most importantly for us, open wine! We like it so much we've just booked again for next March!
Just back from a week in Barbados at the Bougainvillea Beach resort and couldn't be happier with our choice. The hotel grounds are beautiful, the beach is lovely with just enough waves to make it fun and the service in Lanterns restaurant, at the pool bar and at the front desk was fantastic. The hotels location between Oistins and The Gap is perfect so even with no all- inclusive option there are plenty of great places to eat. Try Breezers bar and grill just 10 minutes walk away - 2 lovely ladies run this place and the food and service is great. Our room was amazing - room 5402. Had to walk up 4 flights of stairs but it was so with it - had a covered balcony and a lovely open deck with a lounger, table and umbrella and a hammock!!! Tons of private space to stretch out and relax. Overall a wonderful stay.
We stayed here for three weeks, March/April, and we got married during our second week. After initially being allocated possibly the worst room in the hotel (Room 3218), after a word with our wedding co-ordinator we were given our complimentary upgrade to a Junior Suite, that was included in our wedding package. This room was great, spacious, lots of seating, dining table and chairs, flat screen TV, telephone, large wardrobe, room safe, bathrobes, large bathroom, with shower over bath, and hairdryer. There was a small kitchenette as you entered the room, which was adequate for what we had in mind. The balcony was large, with table and two chairs and a sun lounger. It overlooked the pool bar, restaurant and the sea. Ideal!!All the staff are excellent, so friendly and polite. A special mention must go to Ria Taylor, our truly amazing wedding co-ordinator who made our day extra special, and to Andre, Jose, Roxanne and Sonia. The pool bar is a great area to spend time, especially during Happy Hours. The staff make your stay extra special. They cannot do enough for you.The food at The Siam restaurant is good, and reasonably priced, but it is not open every day, so best to check. The Lanterns restaurant is lovely, with great staff, and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu could perhaps be a bit more varied, but we always found something different the times we ate there. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel, and plan on going back there. Perhaps to celebrate a wedding anniversary!!
