Great Food, Amazing Staff

My wife and I had a wonderful lunch at the Bougainvillea Beach Resort. The food pizza and a burger was excellent. We both said it was one of the best value meals we have ever had. The presentation was excellent, with a table inches from the beach. Even though there is a lot of work going on you can still see the hotel is superbly run. Finally the staff were friendly, happy and a credit to the resort.

Barbados

This hotel is in the middle of renovation but the whole this did not affect the service. The people in Barbados are friendly and fun at the same time being polite. Lovely. A trip on a catarmaran is a must. Looks right on the beach device. Just a delight to be in.

Not Customer Friendly

We were scheduled to stay at the Bougainvillea Beach Resort Sept. 9-16 2017 and stay at The Crane Resort sept 16-23 2017. Hurricane Irma hit Florida just as we were about to leave. Our flight was cancelled and rescheduled 6 times over the next 8 days. We did everything we could do to take our vacation, but finally had to cancel our entire trip. It was a stressful week trying over and over again to get a flight on American Airlines, but to no avail. We called the The Crane and they told us, since it was out of our control that they would reimburse us 100% for our week with them. We called the Bougainvillea and they told us they would only reimburse us 50%. We told them that we were coming back to Barbados in January 2019 (16 months later) and could we get a voucher for the week to use then and they told us "NO, we only will give you a voucher to use in the next 12 months". We told them our vacation plans for 2018 were already in place and could not get there within 12 months but they would not go just 4 more months. We had to take a 50% refund and lost hundreds on the week with them. I understand that if you cancel the trip you may lose out, but this was out of our control and we did everything we possibly could do to get there. The Bougainvillea took advantage of the situation and I would never recommend staying there. The Crane worked with us because they knew what we went thru and tried to help us in a very bad situation. We will be going to Barbados many times in the coming years and will never stay at the Bougainvillea again. We will be staying at THE CRANE RESORT because they care about their customers.

Extremely relaxing and centrally located resort

I spent my vacation at this resort a couple weeks ago. The resort is right on the beach and very close to all the local hot spots, including Oistins and St. Lawrence Gap (amazing food). The staff is very friendly and responsive, and were extremely helpful in assisting us in booking and planning excursions. There are various events at the resort on a weekly basis which guests are welcomed to participate in. I had a comfortable and relaxing stay and would definitely stay at this resort on my next trip to Barbados.

Beautiful and relaxing

My husband, 17 year old daughter and I stayed at The Bougainvillea in July and this was our 3rd visit in 4 years. I'm a little late posting this review but after reading some recent reviews was surprised by some recent negative comments. The staff at this resort are lovely, helpful and friendly, in particular, Mark, Roxanne, Darrien & Jose at the pool bar. These are all familiar faces and gave us a lovely welcome back and we were sad to say goodbye to them. The reception staff are helpful and friendly as are most of the staff around the hotel including the water sports staff and the bar assistants doing the fetching and carrying and the porters. This year we stayed on the east side overlooking the small rectangular pool with a sea view which was beautiful, quiet and relaxing. The apartment itself was a little dated but we understand this side is subject to a full renovation next year. The only complaint we had was regarding the sofa bed in the lounge where my daughter slept. The very very thin mattress meant you could feel the bar under your back and this was not at all comfortable even for the smallest of people to sleep on. That being said we spoke to reception and within half an hour a roll away single bed was delivered to the room, so we were happy with that but I do not think the sofa beds are suitable. The restaurant is a bit expensive in our opinion so we only ate there one night and breakfast a couple of times and preferred to eat out in the evening at local restaurants in the Gap or nearby and there are plenty to choose from. The restaurants did seem to be a lot more expensive this year, especially the Indian Apsara Samudra which we felt we were ripped off despite the nice food and the supermarkets are extortionate! but there are also cheaper places to eat that give just as good value for money. Breakfast at Bliss Cafe in the Gap is a must. Lovely coffee, food and owned by a lovely family who originate from the UK. Getting around the island is so easy. There are plenty of cabs and despite what a previous review said, we were never ripped off and all the cab drivers are very friendly and there is no shortage. A cab to or from The Gap is 20BDS, unless you have the singing taxi driver, Michael who charges an extra 5BDS for the privilege! As I have said in previous a previous review after our first visit, I feel the one thing lacking at this hotel is a separate bar area for evening drinks that maybe stays open a bit longer. The pool bar is the only bar of an evening & closes at 10:30pm. On our last evening we were sitting at the table around the bar area, the bar had just closed and we were with a couple of families we had become friendly with and laughing and chatting and were told by the security guard that the duty manager had requested us to be quieter as other guests were trying to sleep. This was quite disappointing as we were not making a lot of noise, it wasn't late and at the end of the day, we were on our holidays! So a separate bar area for evening entertainment and which is open a bit later, in my opinion, would be an asset to this hotel. That being said, it has not put us off, we love it at the Bougainvillea and can understand why people visit time and again and we will definitely return once the renovations and refurbs are complete
