Coral Mist Beach Hotel
- What's Included
Thoroughly enjoyed our week in Barbados. Excellent accommodation. The apartment was absolutely huge – we were on the ground floor and our room virtually opened out onto the beach. Private beach is small and secluded and absolutely no hassle from people selling you stuff on the beach. Crystal clear water and kept exceptionally clean. Small restaurant/bar served nice food and reasonably priced. Reasonable location within walking distance of lots of nice bars and restaurants or you can hop on the Reggae bus to St Lawrence Gap which is about 10 mins away or Oistins, about 20 mins by bus. Would definitely recommend and would stay again.
Stayed for 4 nights in June. Check in was pretty quick and front desk open 24hrs which was great for those arriving late like us (after 10pm). We had a room with 2 twin beds had requested they be joined to make a King but this was not done. Not a biggie as we just pushed them together ourselves, though housekeeping came during the day and split them back up!The Room - decent size for 3 (2 adults and 1 child) good space for luggage etc and sufficient closet space. Kitchnette well stockef with toaster, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, stove and fridge all in pretty good condition new and clean enough that i didnt think twice about using. Also well equiped with cutlery, dishes and cooking utensils, cups etc. We actually made breakfast and lunch in and only went out to dinner. All rooms beachfront but be warned some have obstructed views as we found out! Ours faced the back side of another building so the beach view was actually just one side of the balcony and also obstructed by some trees (fine with the trees of course). AC worked well and bed was comfy, not too soft or too hard. We asked for additional pillows and got 2 more. Bathroom clean good size sink and shower and decent water pressure and hot water. Shampoo and shower gel in dispensers on the shower wall. They also give you hand soaps and body lotion. A few hiccups were cable TV stations were not showing well ( important if you have kids) and we asked them to check it, they came once but it was not fixed and though we asked again they never came back. Also the balcony furniture was bit old and the table was wobbly which was an issues as with the beautiful beach outside you want to sit there for your meals or morning coffee. My coffee would constantly spill if my daughter pressed on the table. The grounds and hotel itself was well kept. You have access to 2 pools smallish size but was not crowded and sufficient sunbeds and chairs. Beach itself although beautiful to look at was pretty rough and my 5yr old could not really go in as the waves were pretty strong. But there are other calmer beach spots that you can walk too so alot of folks did that. Small resturant/bar we did not use as it seemed not well serviced. I asked to see a menu/bar list abd they didnt have one to offer. In any case lots of places to eat outside so it wasnt a problem to get dinner . They always had fresh pool towels and housekeeping came everyday and did a great job. Ive stayed in hotels in the US and other Caribbean islands much more expensive and many days housekeeping never came round or I had to ask. The only real peeve I had with the hotel was the taxi they organised for us to return to the airport. The airport has strict price guidelines for taxis which are clearly written near where you are leaving the airport so you cannot be overcharged. The taxi to the hotel was 34Bajan but the taxi back was 50Bajan!!! I was surprised and found the hotel should have mentioned the price as you assume you are going to be paying the same price for the same distance/route. This was disapointing. Not really the hotels fault but i felt tjey should let you know. Otherwise the hotel is definitely worth a visit and there wont be any major issues based on my experiance.
We stayed in a unit with a full kitchen and living room, it was nice to have the space and a wide balcony overlooking the beach to sit out and watch the surf, ( yes it's loud, yes it's constant.) The hotel is furnished in the typical Caribbean 3 star style you see in most hotels of this era, a few cracked tiles and water stains here and there to be expected in this climate, but kept immaculately clean by the rather fab cleaning team. We really loved the staff who looked after our room, they really did a superb job and went out of their way to replace and find items we needed . The four stars is really for them and the beach staff. The guy who tends the beach is a treasure, he really had his work cut out bagging up seaweed the week we were here, every morning without fail he was out raking the beach and we totally appreciated his efforts, the beach looked beautiful, it really is special. The beach security guys were also friendly and chatty. The only negative I can see about this place is the restaurant/ beach bar. We had read here that this was an issue with some previous guests when we booked so we were prepared. We used the bar whilst on the beach but didn't eat here, we just didn't fancy it. I can't comment on the food, but I can comment on the vibe...there is none. This isn't a fun hangout spot for guests to mingle and enjoy, it's really lacking atmosphere and direction. Yes, you can walk 7 mins around the corner to the next beach and try Tiki Bar or cross the road and get a drink at Mojo's, but that involves shoes and clothes .....We came to realise that if there were a successful restaurant/bar on this sleepy beach it wouldn't be the same quiet oasis that it is, it would totally change the character of the place. So I'm in a quandry I suppose and with lot's of local eateries nearby by foot and bus it's not something that is a complete deal breaker for us, BUT...... I do love a beach bar, especially one with a happy hour at sundown ha ha. I did miss that and the interaction with other guests that goes with it. Front of house, when arriving and leaving we had to move our own luggage from front desk to room, from room to taxi again. It would be nice to have a little help offered here. Will we be back ? If we were staying South again we'd seriously consider it, it's really superb value and has so many pluses, but the pull of a hotel with/nextdoor to the typical barefoot Caribbean beach bar may be too strong to resist.
Not what was expected and not worth the cost, needs updating and coming into the 21st century technology.... can't beat the view and the fact that the ocean is your backyard.; guessed that what you are paying for.
My wife and I travelled to Barbados in March for a getaway and after much research settled on Coral Mist. We were looking for:Close to the BeachReasonable PriceNot one of the big resortsEasy access to the buzz of the townNot FancyComfortableIn all of the above Coral Mist was absolutely perfect. If you fall out of bed you would land on the beach. The swimming was lovely, the service was excellent, access to the local culture, restaurants, bars, shops etc could not have been better. The hotel was simple but perfect. Service was great, price for what you got absolutely reasonable, the rooms were clean and comfortable. When I was researching there were one or two negative reviews... one was that the sea was too loud! Seriously! It's a beach holiday! That should be a good thing! The other was the noise of the road, which ok, I get, but we did not find it a problem at all when the bathroom door was closed. We could not have asked for a more perfect hotel for what we wanted and we will be back. Thank you Coral Mist for a lovely memory.
