Stayed February half-term 2017. Temperature was hot, high 20s, low 30s throughout (Centigrade). Occasional short rain showers, sometimes torrential, but never lasted very long.Overall experience was fun and relaxed with predominantly friendly staff. But be prepared for everything to run on Caribbean time. We speculated that the hotel was understaffed on the catering side - frequently you'd have to wait 20 minutes for a drinks order to appear, or to have your glass of water topped-up. On one occasion we waited a half-hour for two desserts to appear - curious given it was just bowls of ice-cream. Rooms are compact and starting to get a little tired (time for a renovation). Beds comfy and clean - again not especially large. Safe didn't work in our room but was fixed promptly on request. TV was also faulty but not unwatchable. Rooms have a small fridge that you can stock. You probably aren't going to spend much time in the room anyway. Plenty of (American) power sockets to plug in phone/device chargers and mosquito repellents. Bathrooms nothing to write home about, although surprisingly the kids' room had a large luxury glass shower, no bath. The other four rooms we've seen all have a (very American) stand-in bath/shower above combination. Rooms were also comfortably air-conditioned. On the downside, the request for a late check-out seemed challenging for the hotel (flights back to the UK leave late afternoon/evening). We eventually managed to extend one room for 2 hours at a cost of $75, but weren't able to keep our other rooms past the midday check-out. Wifi is ubiquitous, FREE, generally reliable and fast enough to stream music and tv. Puts many more expensive hotels and resorts to shame.Variety of places to sunbath, by the pools or beach. Also a number of casual tables and seating scattered around the pool/garden. We never had any problem finding sunbeds to occupy - though we were early risers. Plenty of umbrellas around the pools to provide shade as well; beach loungers are of the type with a built-in canopy for shade.Three smallish pools, none very deep but fun with waterfalls, vegetation, a crystal cave and a swim-up bar. Hotel staff come round every hour or two with trays of drinks, jelly pots (?!) and ice-lollies which is a nice touch.Kids Club is friendly, relaxed and air-conditioned. Lovely staff and a collection of consoles/PCs to turn small eyes square. Also nightly movie at dinner time (ending at 9pm). Great place for pre-teens to chill-out when the sun is hottest. Our two would come and go there as they pleased, signing themselves in and out. Kids also enjoyed the free banana boat and ring rides behind the speedboat. Exhilarating enough for tweenagers, and sufficiently gentle not too trouble their parents. There are two restaurants, Reflections (up top) and Drifters (by the beach). Reflections does a creditable buffet breakfast, Drifters a buffet lunch with pizza, and burgers and hot-dogs cooked to order. Wraps and caesar salads available on alternate days. Emphasis for these meals is on quantity, not quality - young kids will love it, but don't expect a gastronomic delight. Evening meals in both restaurants are typically a la carte with occasional buffets and a daily children's buffet in Reflections. Menu is quite restrictive, but we were pleasantly surprised at the novelty and accomplishment of many of the starters and entrees. Don't know if there were different catering staff in the evenings, but the food quality of the evening meals was markedly better than during the day.Evenings frequently saw live music occasions from the pool bandstand (e.g. steel band)and accompanying the evening meal in Reflections. Generally very pleasant and entertaining. Finished before midnight, so noise wasn't a problem for sleeping either.
Lovely small hotel with only 88 rooms. Never felt crowed at all and everything was on hand. The bar area is a little on the small side and could not cope with many people. Rooms comfortable but could do with a little TLC in places. Food excellent in both Reflections and Drifters. The staff certainly make the holiday, they are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Any small problems we had were sorted very quickly and efficiently. The island has plenty to see and do, again with everybody being very friendly. The only down side to the holiday was the cost of things which we found very expensive everywhere on the island.
We were welcomed by reception with a huge smile - it was our 3rd visit. We had a room with a walk in shower which was excellent.. We really enjoyed the food. All staff are outstanding - too many to mention. The highlight of the holiday was the Hobie cat sailing - sometimes on our own or with the Captain on the larger Hobie Cat.We did an exchange dining at the Waves Hotel - the first time was excellent but the second evening was spoilt by a large American party who were drinking out of bottle necks while dining! There was just one point to mention - my husband hurt his foot on coral on the beach - so would advise buying aqua shoes to prevent this.We did a trip to see the Concorde experience which was excellentWould love to go back next year as it was a perfect holiday
Stayed for 9 nights Jan/Feb 17 - First visit, but definitely hope not the last.Very pretty resort built on hill-side rolling down to beach.Low rise buildings and beautifully kept gardens. Our junior suite was designated 'garden view' but we had plenty of sight of the sea through the palm trees. (Many places we have stayed would have called it an ocean view and priced it accordingly!). Room was spacious, comfortable and peaceful. Some of the furnishings a little tired, but kept very well cleaned.Very good beach, quite a bit broader than a lot of this coastline.Food was fine, a cut above most 'all inclusives' we have stayed at, and the drinks of good quality - branded spirits, Chilean wines, local beers. What really makes this resort are the staff, who are ALL so friendly, helpful and engaging. Overall a really great vacation spot. I'd rate this a four star resort with five start service, which for us is perfect as fellow guests are generally relaxed, normal folks, rather than the 'look-at-me' crowd that seems to frequent a lot of 5* spots!
We transferred to Crystal Cove from a supposed 3* hotel further up the coast where we endured what was akin to 'boot camp' conditions for a number of days before we requested a transfer and jumped at the chance to move down to Crystal Cove when it was offered. We had actually stayed at CC once before some 2 years ago and upon our arrival we instantly felt 'at home' with all the staff being welcoming and attentive; I cannot express adequately how happy we were to be back! There are 100's of reviews here for Crystal Cove, the vast majority of which are either 'Excellent' or 'Very Good', so anything that I say will probably have been said before - but I make no apology for repeating previous superlative comments about this resort as they are all very well deserved. There are various grades of room and whilst we were fortunate to be in a suite, based on our previous experience, I don't think anyone would be disappointed with the accommodation even in the standard rooms. One point it is perhaps worth making is that light sleepers such as myself need have no concerns as to the apparent proximity of the Hotel to Highway 1 as, unlike in other resorts we have stayed in, there really was little or no road noise in the bedrooms - which I regard as a huge bonus! Many have commented on the quality of the food, so I would just add that during our stay we enjoyed probably the best meal we have ever had in Barbados (in 8 or 9 trips!) that was easily the equal of meals we have enjoyed at places like Tides or The Beach House.Which leaves the staff; yes, the beach, rooms, restaurants, bars and water sports facilities are all first class but that would not amount to anything if it was not for the exceptional attitude displayed by staff at all levels, which is clearly the result of an ingrained customer service culture and a huge investment in training, management and, most of all, leadership. I could name names but there are too many to mention and I would be at risk of missing someone - so all I will say is that everyone, from groundsmen/gardeners and housemaids up to senior management were a total credit to the Hotel.I have no doubt that we will return soon!
