Just had a week at Crystal Cove. The service was so so poor. The staff are unfriendly (few exceptions like Deleros), but you have to ask for something a few times, service is very slow and there is a big lack of helpfulness. We went to the sister property, Waves and it was so different. They were so welcoming and super friendly. I would not recommend Crystal Cove, but I think Waves seems like a great place to stay. The rooms in Crystal Cove are clean and cool. Food in general is fine, but very much the same type most days. The wait and service is really where the killer is. Other guests felt the same and some repeat customers said their experience has went down hill since their last trip.Barbados is great and would come back here!I couldn't recommend Crystal Cove as a place to stay for the cost. I think you can get a much better experience elsewhere for the same cost or more.
We have just returned from a family holiday to Crystal Cove. I won't repeat the content of other reviews but I must say it was a very enjoyable stay for us and lived up to expectations. Particularly, the staff are very friendly and accommodating and this extends not just to the front desk but also the waiting, bar, housekeeping, grounds people and watersports staff. The free motorised water sports are an added bonus especially as my son learnt to water ski (thanks Charlie!). Booking arrangements for the motorised sports are very well organised. Just a couple of minor niggles - sunbeds. There are posted rules that they can't be reserved before 7:30am and that if not used for 90 minutes then they will be re-assigned. However, we noted that people were reserving before 7am particularly around the pool. This no doubt drives a bit of an unrelaxed behaviour if you let it!Secondly, we probably should have thought about this and we will note for the future. The food is very good. However, the dining experience is a little spoiled by the lack of air-conditioning in the restaurant(s). Naturally, the weather was hot and humid. We appreciate that Drifters on the beach is a challenge but Reflections could be a little better ventilated. It was stuffy at meal times which somewhat spoiled our dining experience. This will be something we look out for on further trips to the Caribbean as we have probably been spoiled by other locations where A/C is the norm. Having said that the rooms were well air-conditioned as was the new, excellent Vista coffee lounge. Also worth a very positive mention is how hard the gardeners work. They were always hard at it and the results showed.
This review is from a family of 5 perspective (2 adults and 3 children aged 8, 6 and 5).We have just returned (30 mins in the house) from 3 weeks staying at Crystal Cove. We took an ocean front suite (room 128) as we needed the room for our family of 5. What can we say about the resort as a whole......superb......from the food, which was excellent in every area, (both at Reflections and Drifters) for an all inclusive resort, to the friendly atmosphere and great facilities. Barbados knows how to do outstanding fish dishes and there are always at least one on the menu which we'd highly recommend as they are delicious. The hotel staff are also great and a special mention to Devon and Stephen who kept the drinks flowing! The kids club really made our holiday so great, not only did we get to relax knowing the kids were thoroughly enjoying themselves, but the level of activity that the club entered into was truly impressive! The wide variety of activities, the genuine enthusiasm of the kids club staff was superb. Special mention to Caroline, Sharin, Shakira and Ayoka who the kids loved and were just such lovely people and a credit to the hotel. On the slight downside, our accommodation was tired when compared to accommodation you might expect for a similar price and we had some slight maintenance issues which were addressed fairly promptly by the hotel. We were offered a complementary lunch at Tamarind for our troubles by the management but opted instead for a fee free extended checkout on check out day as any issue hadn't affected us greatly. There are beach vendors in the area but if you are polite and say no thanks you'll have no problem, of course of you want to but, haggle to your hearts desire.Dwayne on the beach will do a cracking glass bottom boat trip (snorkelling over a wreck/reef and turtles) which is cheaper than the hotels offering and thoroughly enjoyable.So...can we recommend this hotel to other families? Yes. We noticed many families with children who stayed at Waves got the water taxi along to Crystal every day to take advantage of the beach, kids club and facilities. Thanks Crystal Cove - we will be back next year!
Crystal Cove is a quiet all inclusive resort with an up-market feel about it and is located on a lovely beach with water sports included. We were allocated a garden view room but could also see the sea and despite a number of reviews stating that the bathrooms were tired and in need of attention we were pleasantly surprised as ours was just fine. Our large double bed was so comfortable and not the usual push two singles together and fall down the gap configuration, and the air-conditioning in the room was good and a welcome relief after a day outside in the sweltering heat. For the first few days of our holiday only one of the two restaurants on-site was open as the hotel was not overly busy, which obviously restricted our choice a little. Reflections this was on an a la carte basis with 5 or so choices of main course with the option to pay a supplement for specials such as lobster. The night we ate at Drifters was a buffet, and there is also the option of half a dozen tapas dishes from the small coffee and cocktail bar. The food was very very good, but I’d imagine that fussy eaters might struggle a little but cheeseburgers and chips are available at lunchtime.Refreshingly 4 groups were politely turned away from the Reflections restaurant one evening, due to the men wearing t-shirts and in one case flip-flops too. Despite the multitude of notices of the dress code, it was good to see somewhere that actually upheld this. The water taxi to the other hotels is good for variety – we used that to Waves, and also had a decent lunch there too. This hotel is split by the road with an adult only pool (with a drinks service to the sun bed) but we much preferred Crystal Cove. We also drove up to Colony Club where I had stayed on my last visit but this is not an all-inclusive resort. The only minor negatives with Crystal Cove were a lack of Ice Cream generally (one ice lolly ration per day!) and it was never an option with lunch. Also, the hotel is not really geared up for kids so having a few constantly jumping in and throwing balls around by the cave bar and its waterfall is probably not the best location for them.We absolutely loved the hotel and the next time we return to Barbados, it will almost definitely be back to Crystal Cove.
We chose Barbados as our 10th wedding anniversary destination for a quick getaway without the kids and Crystal Cove was a lovely, romantic spot. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. They greeted us with rum punch and cool scented towelettes, and upgraded us to an ocean-view one-bedroom suite. We had thought about trying some different restaurants on the island but there was really no need, the food was delicious. We did take the bus from the hotel to the Oistins Fish Fry on Friday night and that was not to be missed, one of our favourite memories. The photos do not do this resort justice, it is even more lovely in person. Very clean too, and excellent very gracious service. We had fun trying the water sports, jet ski, and snorkelling, and we'd definitely consider returning with our children as well. The hotel was a small one, and it was a pleasant change from some of the huge resorts we've stayed at. It felt cozy and we rested like we'd never rested before.
