We stayed here all inclusive with some friends for two nights following an amazing Caribbean cruise. Having arrived at the hotel at 9.30am due to the early departure from our ship, we were welcomed warmly by staff and received a welcome drink. The reception area is open with no air conditioning, so we were a bit hot, bothered and uncomfortable. We were then informed that our rooms wouldn't be ready until 3.00pm so we left our luggage and went for a walk. On returning, our rooms had been upgraded but only one was ready at 3.pm, the other not until nearer 4. The rooms were spacious, with a balcony, adequately appointed and had the most amazing views of the sea and beach. We could walk straight from our room onto the beach. We were very disappointed with the restaurant and quality of the food, the dining room resembled that of a school canteen, self service for breakfast and lunch, waitress service for evening meals. It was ridiculously hot with no air conditioning, only ceiling fans. It was open and there were nets to keep the birds out but this failed as the birds were flying freely, leaving their deposits everywhere. The beach bar restaurant was closed on the day we arrived and on the second day but we got lunch there on our last day. This was again buffet style with people queueing and was fairly average. We were being collected from the hotel late afternoon and had to vacate our rooms by 12.00 as they were unable to provide late check out. We were allocated a 15 minute slot per person in a room used by all the departing guests that day to get changed before leaving. This was not ideal to say to the least, the floor was piled high with dirty towels used by the other guests. All in all, this hotel is in a beautiful position right on the beach but there were some issues.
We have just returned following 10 days we had a very nice time, however we did have a few issues with our room. We had a second floor sea view room which was nice, but right next to the busy road, the plumbing in the bathroom was very poor and outdated bathroom facilities. On the positive side food was very good and varied, staff were all friendly and helpfull, nothing was too much trouble. Watersports were good with lots of choice of activites, no need to be bored!
We don't usually travel "fully inclusive" so thought would give it a try over the festive Christmas and New Year seasons and stay at the Crystal Cove. The hotel and service was everything we had expected and whilst it was quieter than anticipated at Christmas it came alive for the New Year celebrations which turned out to highly enjoyable with a good and varied choice of entertainment. The only issue with fully inclusive is that you don't feel you want to venture too far from the hotel and sample the many good restaurants in the vicinity. The menu though at the hotel was variable enough and with two choices of restaurant there was something different to sample most days - the service was always pretty good and perhaps a stricter enforcement of the dress code in Reflections might have made more of a difference between this and the more informal Drifters option. The bedrooms were adequate though perhaps the bathroooms need a bit of tlc. All in all a great place to spend a family holiday at Christmas with many families and extended families enjoying what the Cove has to offer.
Tha staff at the hotel are super and we enjoyed our holiday increasingly as we relaxed during our fortnight, which was roughly the last week of November and first of December. We liked the fact that evening meals are served at the table with a menu of probably 3 choices at each course. There was one buffet per week. This is more civilised than many a la carte restaurants and the food was reasonably good if rather bland. There are just 2 restaurants of which the main Reflections restaurant was our preference as the Drifters restaurant overlooking the sea is a bit less smart. We seldom ate any lunch but again preferred the indoor restaurant because the birds were a nuisance outside.I was glad we had all inclusive because a few restaurant menus we looked at locally seemed hellishly expensive.I think Barbados must be an expensive destination because we thought we had paid quite a lot to come here but the first room we had (and from hearsay many of the rooms) seemed pretty poor. We were lucky to be moved on the day following arrival due to the presence of insects in our room. We then had a fabulous sea view from one of the very few rooms at a third level. Nevertheless the bath in this room should have been replaced a while ago. There is a boat shuttle between the various hotels in the Elegant group and it is only a 15 minute walk to Waves which s the other all inclusive one nearby. They do a great rum punch and have a nice coffee "shop" as well as obviously a restaurant where one could have a change of lunchtime venue. To walk along the beach is possible in beach shorts and carrying shoes. The sea will catch you at the narrowest bits. You soon dry off after skirting rocks and getting a bit wet!Everyone will have their own financial situation and opinion on how much they should spend on a holiday. I can say for certain that we have stayed in better facilities elsewhere (not in Barbados) for similar or lesser amounts. So I can't give 5 stars but we enjoyed our holiday. Many thanks to the staff. The manager was regularly visible and involved.
We stayed here for a week and didn't want to leave! The location is fantastic on the west coast, lovely calm and clear water, great atmosphere in the hotel with friendly staff, the food was good but as it's quite a small resort there are just two restaurants and one is not open every night. Great selection of drinks on the bar menu, one of the best things about this hotel is the all inclusive watersports, the guys are really helpful and there was a great selection of watersports available, the only downside to this hotel is the rooms are a bit tired and the sun loungers could do with a upgrade. All in all a fantastic holiday would certainly go back
