Crystal Cove is a very nice west coast resort that has something for everyone. It isn't a 5 star resort and it doesn't try to be. It is a nice compact resort that mainly has British visitors (in my experience). The resort has the option of being based around the pools or on the beach. The pools aren't great for proper swimming and were mainly used by kids. The beach is lovely, plenty of sun loungers but I hate the rush for seats in the morning ☹️. The team bring out drinks and snacks at points in the day which is a nice touch. On the beach you can walk either south or north to other coves which are very quiet and is nice for a walk along to.The room was perfect for us as a family, an upstairs bedroom and a sofa bed plus single bed downstairs with a bathroom on both floors. The bathrooms do need updating but decor was good. The air con was a life saver in the humid afternoons! The restaurants were fine for a weeks stay, there were some lovely fish dishes in Reflections (a la Carte) including swordfish and marlin. Drifters was great for a casual lunch of either a salad or a sandwich. If we were there longer than a week we would have used the exchange dining option for variety. Vistas coffee and wine bar was lovely, the only communal spot with air con - they did lovely cocktails and Tapas pre dinner. The water sports were great - managed well by the team, you put your name down for an activity at an available time a day in advance (one per day for motorised). They will also teach you to sail if you would like to. There is also paddle boarding, kayaking, Hobbie-cats, waterskiing and tubing. The resort puts on evening entertainment which was ok, but not really our thing - it felt like it was aimed at the kids. Everything seemed to stop early, mainly due to it being a family resort.Negatives about Crystal Cove? I've mentioned the rush for the sun-loungers... in addition the number of beach sellers is pretty high (which isn't the resorts issue).... at times it felt like a constant flow trying to sell you trips, jet ski rides or pottery, all very pleasant and friendly, but by day 7 you've had enough!Would I go back to Crystal Cove? maybe.... Thanks to Sophia and the team for making it a lovely holiday, we certainly want to come back to Barbados, we would probably try somewhere else next time just for variety!
Crystal Cove is an oasis of calm in Barbados, with good sized rooms (with powerful AC), large beds, quiet accommodation and excellent service. Our rooms were kept in immaculate condition by the housekeeping staff who were happy to help with requests for new towels/plastic bags for wet clothes/room clean at odd times of day. We were also very impressed with the attitude of the hard working staff in the restaurant, bars, and beachfront. A free motorised water sport each day was a huge plus, allowing us to try water ski-ing for the first time, as well as the hilarious banana boat/donuts. Prices from local suppliers for jet skis and glass bottom boat with snorkelling were good value, for the Caribbean.I recommend using the water taxi to other Elegant Hotels for a trip out on the water, indeed we had lunch and cocktails at Waves on three occasions (don't forget to book ahead), and the ride to and from other hotels is fun in itself. The water taxi runs on time, every time, except in very extreme weather and is wholly reliable.
Best room/balcony/seafront beach ever. Food and service amazing. Really friendly staff. Watersports team great. We visited some of the other hotels on the Island and all agreed that Crystal Cove was definitely the best. Small hotel with fantastic access to a wonderful beach where you can quite literally snorkel on the reef from the beach. Safe for kids. All inclusive included good quality drinks and great quality food - even after two weeks we weren't bored with the restaurants. We hired a Jimny Suzuki to tour the Island - St Nicholas Abbey, The Waterfront bar in Bridgetown and Bathsheba on the East Coast all Must Sees. Only negative was poor internet connection but we didn't care as our room was literally overhanging the beach!
We have recently returned from Barbados after our Honeymoon in May. We Booked the Crystal Cove Hote as the Virgin Holidays advisor recommended the 4 1/2 star hotel and trip advisor comments in the main suggested it was a very good hotel. Be warned it is not. From previous comments on here from 2012/2013 it looks as though it was a 5 star hotel and has become a 4 1/2 star hotel - we have been to better 3 star half board hotels in Spain on a cheap break. It is a very tired and dated hotel, limited food options, no swimming pool which you can actually swim in due to the small size/shape of them, the rooms are like beach huts, many have restricted view, bathrooms are very old and dilapidated, showers drip at best on full power, nothing to do in the evening, limited entertainment and we've had better buffet breakfast options at the Premier Inn. Thankfully we complained on day 1 (along with 2 other guests who came from other Barbados hotels) and we had the option to move to other Elegance hotels in their group. Opted to move to Waves, a four star hotel 5minutes down the road - it was amazing, ten times better than Crystal, much newer, cleaner, better beach, adults only section of the hotel with a huge pool and jacuzzi and onsite spa, coffee shop with light lunch/afternoon tea options as an altentiave to the huge buffet lunch they offer in the main restaurant. If we were being really picky, the evening meal is al a carte with only three or four options, so fussy eaters sometimes have to eat the same thing although the staff and chef were more than happy to accommodate special requests. Amazing Honeymoon after we moved, staff at Waves are amazing, so friendly, we will definitely return. Now begins the Battle with Virgin to get some of our money back, Waves is a cheaper hotel as its only a four star although, Virgin need to do testing of the holidays they offer, they are misleading customers by recommending Crystal over Waves, struggling to fill the availability I suspect. Virgin currently refusing to refund difference between hotels....so disappointing end of Honeymoon ad we will end up in Small Claims Court.
Land in Barbados is at a premium so crystal cove packs in a lot in a small space. The food is great and there are drinks a plenty. Don't expect speedy service though, you are on Caribbean time. Sit back and relax. The pools are small but the beach is clean and close. We saw turtles when we snorkelled off the beach. Our room was clean and spacious. The balcony rail could have done with some tlc but elsewhere was fine and comfortable. The kids club was great. Lots of activities that our son enjoyed. There is no air conditioned restaurant. Welcome relief can be found in the vista bar. Overall we'd go back in an instant.
