Spent a few days ( I think 4 or 5) here for a nice, relaxing vacation on the beach. This was my first time in Barbados. Loved waking up every morning to the the sounds and view of the ocean. See pictures posted 😊Everyday we took a swim in the ocean for a few hours. There were always beach chairs and no need to get up extra early to save a spot. There was one guy who asked us everyday if we wanted to rent a jet ski, but when we politely said no, he did not bother us further. Our hotel had free snorkeling gear so we borrowed some and were able to see quite a few fish. The only regret was that we didn't go out to the sea turtle ( also complimentary) tour . When we asked, it was too rough on the water to go see them. Not too rough to swim though. Food was great at the onsite restaurant Taboras ( al fresco) with the exception of breakfast which wasn't anything special. One time I got an omelette with 2-3 ingredients ( of my choosing) but there wasn't even toast or breakfast potatoes on the side for almost 20 bucks. Coming from New York I don't mind spending that amount for breakfast , but I expect more than just scramble eggs. For two people it was about $40 from the a la carte menu just for breakfast. My husband and I sometimes skipped breakfast and chose to eat lunch and dinner instead. We usually liked to sleep in anyway. Lunch and dinner were better. Usually ate a salad / pizza or fish sandwiches with fries for lunch. We ate dinner once at Taboras $70 ( appetizer,drink, and entree). Loved the complimentary afternoon tea (4pm) except for the fact that it was quite hot outside. There were ceiling fans but it didn't do much for the heat. ( I knew booking my vacation that the weather was going to be hot, however it would have been nice to escape from the heat once in a while and not just at the hotel room, or in the ocean. Twice we walked for about 5 min on the beach to eat at a local restaurant . Jujus beach bar. We had fries and fried shrimp/ and or fish. Something different from hotel food. About 20 bucks for two. As it was off season, there were many restaurants closed but luckily this was open. We took a cab to "just grillin" one night where we ate grilled fish and shrimp also served with fries. The food was a little salty for me but it was tasty. Also al fresco but more like a fast food grille restaurant in the town. For our splurge night we went to The Tides. This too was al fresco dining. Food was upscale but wasn't amazing. Looking back I remember that the ambience and overall experience was romantic. Great date place as there were many couples. I only remember my mango smoothie and not the food. Not sure, but while dining there were a bunch of insects ( unseen) that made loud noises in a tree outside ? like cicadas so we felt we heard more of the insects than the background music. Lol . I am just being honest with what happened even though it probably couldn't be controlled. We were dining at around 8 pm. Because of the heat, we didn't not book excursions or go exploring. We were happy to just lay on the beach and do nothing. I just like to be thorough in my reviews. Despite my nitpicking, I would still give my experience a 4-5 stars. Looking forward to going back.
This is a fantastic hotel, and the main reason for saying that is the staff. I was traveling with my 2 kids and almost everyone knew their names by Day 2. Do not miss this place. Beach was so great we wanted to stay an extra 2 days... But work is work :}
Location location location.You cannot beat the location of this hotel! Everything about this hotel is fabulous. Staff, food & drinks. The hotel could do with a little tlc- which by all accounts is happening later this year. Then without doubt - it will be back to being best. We have been to many of the other leading hotels in the island - and this one always draws us back!Bring in the face lift R.Pav!
We arrived early at 10.30am, as we had just returned from a Seadream cruise, a wonderful welcome, our room was not ready so we were upgraded to a ground floor ocean suite.We were only staying for one night, but is was a perfect end to a wonderful trip. We were even given a late checkout till 2pm.
We returned for a second visit having been promised better rooms, food and service. Unfortunately, little had improved and the "suite" was....well tired, cheap and underwhelming. Poor quality furniture and a bathroom suite left over from the 70’s. At £1,000 a night you could do significantly better. The position is wonderful and that is what they are trading on, a fabulous beach just by your front door. Regular visits each day from old men peddling jewellery are a real pain! These blokes are impossible to escape from unless you leave the beach. Nowhere else would be putting up with begging, which is what it is!! Beach staff excellent, cheery and helpful. Breakfast 5/10, surrounded by more staff than you can shake a stick at, everyone wandering around and having a chat with their mates. Average quality food and nothing matching a real five star gaff. Very poor quality bread, eggs and omelettes not bad. Lunch, ok as long as you are prepared to wait for an hour or so once the staff have all had a chat with each other and can be bothered to serve. 4/10. Order the same salad as yesterday and the one that eventually arrives will be different. Birds are fed by the staff and sit and flutter over your table, empty tables had the food cleared up by the birds. Dinner, set menus and very very poor fare. Empty restaurant gives a clue, not noticed by the weak management. There is a misconception going on here that the food/service is similar to the Cliff, Tides or Sandy Lane! It’s not! Cocktails and wine list very good. There are plenty of staff called a "director" and ask about meeting your expectations! Please! If you don't like that, they will "reach out" to someone you've never met. Poor quality maintenance throughout, noisy aircon units that leak condensate water down over electrical fittings. You wonder about the legionnaire’s disease risk! If there is a Risk Assessment in place, there wasn't when I asked to see one. In fact, H&S everywhere was absent and wouldn’t be allowed in the U.K. Our room was filled with insecticide from top to bottom on the Thursday during fogging to control mosquitos. We were unable to see each other or across the room. All of our clothes and possessions were covered with a fuming cloud of white smoke. This took over two hours to clear and there were no data sheets or information on site. Senior staff nonplussed and totally in the dark! Have this fan and don't worry it's not harmful! Then why is the bloke conducting this operation supposed to be wearing PPE for a product only to be used in the open air? Overall then, hapless at best! Dangerous people, poorly trained an under qualified. Spend your “hard earnt” elsewhere and save yourself the grief.
